Aussie news: Super 2000 & McRae
Hey all,
It's been a pretty big day for news down under! The first VW Polo Super 2000 will debut in the Australian Rally Championship in Canberra next month, see here:

I have to admit, I've never heard of the driver. But hey, it's a start!
And also, Alister McRae has signed on to do a gravel rally...a state championship round! There's nothing like a driver that just loves to drive!

Cheers!

This might be old news but Guy Wilks is also coming to Oz twice. In Rally of Canberra and Melbourne. It would be good if Alister would come over to the East Coast more often.

Having Guy Wilks competing in a couple of events in Oz will be great. It will be good to see how he adapts to the Aussie conditions - he's probably not used to Canberra's dust coming from Britain!

It's a PR stunt more than anything, they are only in the showroom class but he's up against Simon Evans and Neal Bates in the (much bigger) Toyotas. All for a bit of fun.

Alister McRae has won his class, the 2WD Showroom class, in Targa Tasmania after his team-mate, and class leader Rick Bates (twin brother of ARC top gun, Neal) was forced to retire with mechanical problems.

There's some awesome Targa photos here, too.

The Polo is being driven by an ex South African, Marius Swart , from what i recall a pretty decent driver! If he can get enough budget together i think your Mr Bates is in for some trouble.

I quite understand the need for safety briefings but the threats and it's how it's being communicated that seems to me extremely heavy-handed. And the similar NW Stages closed-road rally didnt...
