Hard to see the point of this tactic? Surely he can just enter the rally without registering for WRC2 if he wants to gain experience of the event?

I think main idea is when you're entered into WRC2 you have decent starting position, otherwise you drive after all priority drivers (incl 2WD cups) and it's not changing during the event, even if you're high in general classification - always as non registered driver you're behind priority/registered.
Is it 6 best scores out of 7 count in WRC2?
It's looking difficult for Lappi now.. and I think Kopecky will only get 6 events instead of promised seven?
Will be interessting to see Henning fight with the youngsters in WRC2!
Not sure if he continues with Ford or he will choose to rent a Skoda, that Pontus has success with?
Not sure, but he struggles to match the tempo of the top WRC cars, as he used to.
May be several reasons for that, but he will have a more level playing field in a Fiesta Evo. Not sure where the car is coming from, but www.norsk-rally.com says it will be a Fiesta, hopefully an Evo.
Maybe he is renting it from MSport.
So after Germany here is how it stands - http://www.wrc.com/en/wrc-2/results/...37-256---.html
I've enjoyed watching the title battle this year - especially with four guys possibly in the mix for WRC drives.
With China now off the table it's one less option for everyone. Do we know any more confirmed rounds for the top guys? It is definitely a chess match.
All the guys have made at least one mistake. They've also all had fantastic performances during their non-WRC2-scoring rounds. So it's a very interesting battle.
Looks like Suninen still holds the advantage - but who do people think will win the title?
Lappi!
I think that this was the first time Lappi did everything well on an asphalt event. So far he nearly always crashed and when then alwas in right-hander (as Hartusvuori found).
Who concerns me is Tidemand. He is becoming an eternal promise.
In Italy we have a say similar to this: "And also this year we will win next year".
I'm wondering which rally (if some at all) will Kopeckż drive inestead of canceled China...

Even if Evans wins his last event, Suninen can be 2 x 3rd to be the champ.#WRC2 title is decided between the Finns.

Reading Skoda's post event press release, they still mention Lappi as a works driver and don't seem to rule out the possibility of further rounds for all their guys.. I suppose they will see how it goes in Spain next week.
They shall still try to fight for the title. For having three crews it's been heading towards a kind of failure...
Well either way they will have needed to put in their entries for Wales before Corsica. So we'll see when the list comes out. They don't have the luxury of being able to wait, although there's nothing to stop them withdrawing them like they did last year from memory.
Skoda were going to go to China so maybe they would do Australia?
When there are only seven events and there are strong drivers like Evans or Sunninen one puncture or accident can cost you big.
Lappi testing Fabia R5 on mud today, so i guess he's in for GB.
Lucky to WRC2 in Ford would be my wish. What do you say Malcolm?
No problem i can give him a car.I suppose you will pay for the expenses, right?
if Suninen is 3rd in Wales, he and Evans will have exactly same score 120p (25+25+25+18+15+12 for both)
How they will decide which one is "better" ?
Came here to make the exact same question :D
Could it be that they will count points where the two drivers were one against the other? In that case Suninen would win having arrived ahaed of Evans in Poland and Finland. But I don't know if this is an actual rule.
Same rule as in the full WRC:
So reading that I take it to mean that AL14 is correct - and that it would take into account their 'face-off' scores effectively. I think?Quote:
For drawing up the final classification of a Championship, the rule for deciding between drivers and codrivers
who have scored exactly the same points total shall be:
10.1.1 According to the greater number of first places, then second places, then third places, etc.,
achieved in the final classifications on their respective Championship, counting only those rallies which
have served to make up their points total;
10.1.2 According to the greater number of highest places achieved in the final classifications on their
respective Championship, counting only those rallies in which each of the drivers and co-drivers concerned
have taken part, one 11th place being worth more than any number of 12th places, one 12th place being
worth more than any number of 13rd places, and so on.
10.1.3 In the event of a further tie, the FIA itself will decide the winner and decide between any other
tying drivers and co-drivers, on the basis of whatever other considerations it thinks appropriate.
For sure the FIA are correct to change the rules next year and make sure everyone faces off at least 3 times.
Three events that everyone has to drive is a step forward, but I would rather see FIA name, let's say, eight 'WRC2' events and have everybody allowed to enter all eight, but only six best scores count.
The current system is just too messy.. as well as the problem of competitiors not facing each other, you get weird anomalies like Tidemand in Germany who scored a good result but couldn't count it because he hadn't nominated the event beforehand.
Certainly it is not let's say 'optimal' at the moment. But I quite like how there is always a WRC2 battle at every event as it gives fans something else to concentrate on, especially on the long-haul rounds or if the main WRC battle is a bit boring.
Clearly there are strong levels of interest in the championship so I think maybe it's best not to shake things up too radically.? Flexibility can be good for privateers. With Hyundai coming in and Toyota following soon with R5 I think it's in a good place competition-wise.
Again the biggest problem for me comes back to the coverage. Right now the amount of WRC2 screen time is as low as it's ever been. Certainly nothing has been done this year to improve things. Not a great platform for the future top WRC drivers. I keep coming back to it but WRX has this all sorted out and great coverage for the Euro and support championships. We know all this footage is being shot by WRC cameramen. They clearly don't have the time or space in the TV programme to show much WRC2. Fine.
They should put out a dedicated 45min edit on YouTube on the Wednesday after each rally. Or at the VERY least do more on social media with these guys. When was the last time you saw Teemu Suninen or Lappi interviewed on main WRC coverage?
Yes and no.. there are some very good drivers in WRC2 this year, but on the other hand even in Spain, the works Skoda drivers finished 25 minutes ahead of the third place.
You have a good point on the media coverage.. terrible for sponsors and manufacturers. The YouTube clips are just the same as what they show on the tv. Now they only seem to show the powerstage live there is even less chance to see the WRC2 crews.
.... Emil B ....???
Who is he? Never heard of him.
have you got Rallyper at ignore list? http://www.petrolheads.gr/images/smi...um/protest.gif
I actually still believe Bergkvist has the potential but it requires true effort put in him. I mean serious real program with a lot of testing, training and quality team which allows him to concentrate fully on driving. I know that all that basically means a works team but in this moment I feel like he was kind of unlucky and may end forgotten like some other once rising stars.
Bergkvist has had a poor year, especially if you look at what Sirmacis achieved in ERC this year.
But I don't think it's bad luck. That car is less reliable and slower than the other R5s, it was never going to end well.
I wish him well in finding a better programme next year.
@Pantealex For sure Emil hasn“t had the backup like Veiby just driving anywhere and anytime as he wish. Daddy pays. Veiby is good but he has driven way more rallies than most of his fellow competitors. And in good cars, well prepared. And that“s the difference as we all know.
Emils“choices wasn“t many or even just one. The one he took. And we all knew from the start where it should end and it did.
Ruling him out like a kind of one hit wonder or what some of you guys says, just says how short your memories are.
He was ERC3 champion in 2015.
He deserves better than this maybe outcome.
