Have to say, this is a pretty good power stage.
Good PS but awful lot of cleaning
Great time Kalle !
If Ogier has smashed the cooling package now…
Wow Ogier nearly !!
Tanak seems to be losing one position in Sunday standings.
Only if Tanak had a speed!!!!
Ogier has so much luck
7s now left for Ogier!
That tree kind of saved him
Tänak jsut sucks this year on PS stages when everyone is pushing, he would have won if he would have made a Kalle like stage. Even lost to Neuville
Tanak wtf?
Great PS by Neuville with bad road position, who knows what he could have achieved without that touch in the first day... but Kalle's PS was on another planet.
Nice victory by Ogier, but as we saw today, he makes mistakes way more often than in his full time days. Hence why I don't believe Ogier would have gotten his 9th title against Kalle or Neuville if he was full time. But still, congrats to the old man.
Evans not fast, even for opening the road. But the end result is good enough... he has to at least keep being consistent and hope the chasers will have a DNF sooner or later.
To state the obvious, Hyundai & Neuville can kiss that no. 1 byebye, only question remains is if Rovanperä or Evans will take it, as we still have 8 rounds to go…Congrats to Ogier, as impressive as he was when he won this event first time in the Polo back in 2013.
But this year is not 2022-2024. Too many small mistakes and punctures to match Kalle in past years, in my opinion. And last year vs Neuville, he had a better car and better road position and only few points behind, before Acropolis. Then he crashed 3 times and was 1 of the 2 drivers to get a puncture in Japan.
Now, Ogi being second overall in championship standings, do we see another " I probably will drive the whole of the rest season"?
Yes, the result is okay. But seeing him finishing the PS behind Neuville with bad road position and even Katsuta (who made a small mistake)... those points count. Good thing for Evans is that he's being super consistent this season, so maybe the others will make mistakes and have DNF... otherwise, on speed alone, it will be hard.
Based on two last rallies (not only but those rallies have been very strong) I would say Tänak is getting the nr 1 hunter, Kalle still doesnt havent found the correct click on gravel, just look even this event, a minute loss to Ogier and Tänak. some good stage times but very unstable with the times overall.
Evans should be very worried, his speed on two last rallies has been miserbale even with better starting positions, IMO its actually worse than his speed while opening the road
Now that Kalle appears to have acclimatised himself with the tyres, Elfyn doesn’t stand much of a chance, and the only person to stop the second half of the season becoming a bit of a one horse race is Ogier. If Hyundai can keep it together, Tanak is an outside bet, but traditionally the Hyundai hasn’t been on par with Toyota on fast gravel events.
Does anyone know why the two M-Sport cars were so slow today? Beaten by multiple Rally2 cars on most stages.
If Kalle or Ott don't have a disasterous Acropolis, I see the title fight between them.
It's a stupid rule, but rules are rules.
Ogier unfastened his seat belts, removed his gloves and opened
the chin strap of his helmet between the Flying Finish and Stop control of SS 13.
1500€ fine
Overrated ? Wow that is crazy. If you want to make this argument why not do with Ogier in VW which was the best car at that period and Loeb retired when he started winning. You can't call a driver overrated who has made history in the sport.
Both Tanak and Rovanpera are not overrated. Especially Tanak in my opinion is underrated.
If Evans keeps driving at this pace he will not challenge both Kalle and Ott for the remainder of the season. Kalle now getting better with these new tyres on gravel and Ott is showing great speed this season. Only question about Ott is the reliability of Hyundai and unfortunately with this car he is not better than Kalle on Tarmac. In high speed events Toyota has the edge. Remember Tanak was going absolute flat out to win 2022 Finland and he barely managed that by 6 seconds over Rovanpera.
Remember that Evans lost only one point against 2nd placed driver on the leaderboard after this event. So yes, if he will be driving at this pace, he will still win the title. Also last year consistency in Neuville bring him the title. Not wins.
Evans cannot keep showing this slow pace and capitalising from others mistakes because this will eventually come to end. He needs to step up a bit in terms of pure speed.
His rivals are 2 world champions. I think Elfyn has another difficult task ahead of him sweeping the road in Greece. His chance is only when Kalle and Ott have problems in my opinion.
However it is incredible to see that all 3 contenders Ott Kalle and Evans are very consistent this season (Ogier as well but he is part time at least for now)
At this point I’d say it is a shame the promoter, FIA and everyone else involved haven’t learned the lesson from the 2 previous seasons and put a tarmac event after Finland, if only to balance the calendar out and give all the crews a bit of a break after all these harsh gravel rallies (especially now when we have Kenya, Sardegna & Greece in the first half of the season), yes I know it’s a bit besides the point but I do think it would to some extent level the playing field.
