Moura wins SS2 and takes the lead, but:
#2flagLukyanuk Alexey - Arnautov Alexey
"Definitely the tyre wear is enormous, now I tried it do it little bit more calm."
#3flagMoura Ricardo - Costa António
"It was OK, but the tyres are too damaged. I don't know how do have it other guys, but we probably pushed too much."
Can Kajto push on the third?
First stage was a mixed surface city stage and SS2 is a very fast one, unlike the rest of the rally, so next stage is the first real one, and should create the first gaps.
Puncture for Bostanci. Habaj and Lopez report some issues with the car.

Luky on SS3 massively fastest so far. Let's see Kajto :)
Edit: Kajto nearly identical time. Niceee!
This is shaping up nicely.
Botka without brakes
So Lukyanuk's lead after SS3 is less than his time gained on SS1 (Mickey Mouse stage)...
Every second counts here.

Bonstanci ddn't start SS4, Lopez stuck on 3rd gear if I heard right.
EDIT: Bonstanci will start with Marijan Griebel now(out of place)
EDIT2: Bonstanci with no tyre on rear right, going sideways like a crab.
left control arm broken.....
:(
From U27... Zawada went off in SS3 and lost nearly 4 minutes. Brož lost 6,5 minutes (engine).
Kajto into the lead.
Sirmacis showing good pace again on SS4.
So is it true that Kajto has joker parts and Lukyanuk does not?

Great photo Eddie! Thanks for posting! It's great to see the old rivals talking as long time friends now :)
I hope we will have an exciting battle for victory on Friday and Saturday! The rally resumes on Friday at 10h43 local time (12:43 CET).

Something for the lovers of statistics - the win on Grupo Marques stage was Kajto's 100th stage win in the ERC :)
Come on Jarek, Castro may not be the fastest guy around, but he neither is Captain Slow rally version. An open bonnet made him lost huge time in SS3.
Overall, a nice Açores Rally first day. Katjo and Luky on an epic duel replay and five guys fighting for P3, with less than 10 secs between them! Great to see Moura and Magalhães in that pack. In 2wd there’s also a Portuguese driver on the podium, Paulo Antunes (208), behind the amazingly fast Opel duo. Strangely, national Gr.N crews don’t appear on ERC timing (probably some late FIA mess), but Teodósio is the Gr.N leader. Thankfully, eWRC is giving a full combined classification: https://www.ewrc-results.com/results...es-Rallye-2017
It’d be great to see today’s close fights continuing till the rally end; the challenging and tricky Azorean roads always provide fantastic rally action and last stage drama is becoming a local tradition. Fingers crossed!

Last night's day one review programme on Eurosport could have been better.. they need to chose the roadside positions better.. also I'm not keen on the high up in-car camera position pointing down. You can see what the driver is doing but you can't see the road as the light blinds the camera.
I dont think so. There may be a link but I dont think its romantic.
All I can find is this:

Griebel has started well... fastest so far.
