Ott on a Mission, full attack, love it
Crazy pace, they found something
Neuville dropped time on 2nd split...
Edit: 2 secs, but wasn´t anything. Good time at the end.
I really feel for Ott.
I really feel for Estonians.
I really feel for all of us in terms of this rally and the championship, considering his pace at the 1st morning stage...
Neuville surprisingly quick
Ott going with the McRae approach :)
Loubet still so slow
No hybrid for Lappi after a heavy landing
"If there is nothing to lose then just bin it and let's see how far we get." - Ott tänak 2023
Suninen is on a good pace, hope he can keep the momentum without crashing till the end
what a time from Oliver 10 secs to Gus.
Nice time by Kaur in the new car.
Disaster for Lappi, 40s is huge here! Can't seem to catch a break lately
The guy - a world champion - has an insurmountable penalty before even starting his home rally, and you expect him to be all smiles and 'I will just have some fun' at stage end interviews? Seriously?
I'd rather see him as he is, being honest, than giving the standard rally driver bullshit at stage ends.
Some confusion here over Lappi
It´s not bullshit being positive. A true sportsman leave yeswterday and goes on. I know he´s a special personality, but it doesn´t excuse him for not being able to tell positive things. For example after stage wins.
When should he start being positive you mean? Never?
I'm sure it would be easier to 'leave yesterday behind' if what happened yesterday hadn't completely f*cked today, tomorrow and Sunday for him.
Let's be clear - yes, driving rally cars is fun. Yes, he's in a privileged position that others would kill for, blah blah blah. But ultimately, his job - his life's work - is fighting for world championships, and thanks to something outside of his control that happened 24 hours ago, that job is completely screwed this weekend (on his home rally, in a country where he's probably the highest-profile athlete they've ever had) and likely now the rest of the year, and you want him to start being positive?
I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think you understand how people operating at his level work. What's he got to be positive about? "Yeah, I'm winning stages, 6th overall here I come!!!"?
Obviously you and I also are persons on a different average mode. I can easily leave things behind, and as you mentioned he has so much to be happy for. An engine failure one day, crash another. Should he have that in mind all the time? Is that what you learn from shrinks?
Sportsmen often need them, but I think Ott need it more.
Tanak should at least be positive about the stage wins and the (performance) work done with the car seems to be paying off.
From todays first 2 stages, only surprise (for me) is actually Neuville - he is doing better than I expected. Good road position helps, but let's see how he is doing with more pumpy south Estonia.
Hey, each to their own. I appreciate that we all see the world differently, and don't expect anyone else to think or feel the same way I do.
I would also agree that it is helpful for a sportsperson to be able to move past their own mistakes.
This situation, though... considering how he must be feeling, I don't know how he can set the times he's setting, other than absolutely not giving a flying f*ck whether the car makes it to the end of the stage in one piece.I don't know how you can just 'get over' a 5 minute penalty through no fault of your own before even starting your home event where you're a national hero.
On the RC2 field - Solberg was expected to be good and favourite etc, but maybe not that much faster than others? Taking into account he has some sickness to carry as well.
In a way, i mean it is a bad situation but it is kinda a very good stress test for the Puma, by pushing to the max every stage they can find the weak spots on fast gravel and they can try and improve theese things before finland, that is the upside i see about this and i am sure M-sport knows it too
Edit: i mean the durability side not the performance side
Stage 4 delayed
Photographers in dangerous place
Excellent start from Solberg, but a long way to go yet. If he can keep up the pace it will be interesting to see what Mikkelsen's approach will be, will he just try to play the long game and hope for a mistake or push more to try to catch Solberg. Interesting WRC2 battle so far for the fastest Estonian as well
Next one is a Classic and one of the fastest stage
