Would not agree about RX. It gains popularity very rapidly. Easy to follow (2 hours on sunday), quite nice media coverage (a lot of live tv), has big names now on board. And it appeals to young generation too, so quite a perspective for next few years.
The sad reality is that WRC is relatively unknown to majority of the public. RX is as known as cross-country skiing. Those who know it, know it. Others got no idea.
Is there any hard data available about the viewership of RX?
World RX has grown the rallycross profile greatly, but it was starting from pretty much zero.
But I doubt there are very many 'big' rallycross fans compared to WRC/rally fans.
I watched World RX quite avidly in 2014 & 2015 but my interest has already faded.
WRC has soooo much more to it ... RX is so basic in comparison and just doesnt have the depth. The 2016 RX Season is not holding my attention any more.

You can compare YouTube views I suppose. Even though WRX is made for this kind of thing, and the promotors invest heavily in social media, their videos only attract a few thousand viewers. There are users on this forum who have more YouTube subscribers...Quote:

Ogier is the benchmark, it would be very sad if he decided to quit.
And as I have written earlier, in this case Capito acts as a hand puppet for Ogier, and I am quite sure that the moment Ogier understands that he has no chance of beating all of Loebs records, there is a big chance of him quitting.
He basically has nothing left to prove except that. And I also fully understand his frustration on the two-day-sweeping rule. All tough he still will be champion, he is in it to win it - and by that I mean EVERY rally - and he doesnt see that that very same rule is the same advantage on tarmac, as it is a disadvantage on gravel. Because he doesnt need an advantage on tarmac to win, but he needs a lesser disadvantage on gravel.

Loeb used to sweep roads most of his career and managed to win 9 titles.

It's only an hour of Live in WRX, WRC usually has 3 hours now. When you've watched a couple of seasons of RX it gets boring for us WRC fans i think since we are used to more variation.Quote:

There is no perfect system, but this one and QS are close to it. I personally prefer QS as the driver carries his own responsibility for choosing the starting position.Quote:

Here is a suggestion which is based on the New Zealand Rally Championship start order
Leg One: Drivers will be seeded by:
(1) At Round 1 (Rallye Monte Carlo) only, the first five (5) start order positions will be reserved for competitors placed in the first five (5) of the previous years Championship and will be seeded on merit. These first five (5) competitors will select their road position:

The alternative would be to reverse seed the WRC field for the subsequent legs but that would have to be consistent for both gravel and tarmac events
Really don't see why they are making it such a big drama about the running order rules. Simplest and easiest way is to just run the championship leader as the 1st car on the first day of events. Then reverse order for day 2 and that pathetic excuse of a 3rd "day".
With the way rallies are nowadays that means the championship leader is only at a huge disadvantage for basically 3 or 4 full stages before the 2nd pass in the afternoon (although I accept the lines will be a bit off considering all the lesser cars/drivers passing through too).
The fairest way is the qualifying like we had a few years ago, but I didn't really feel like that had much place in the sport. Just a personal opinion due to the fact that since I've followed the WRC in the last 15yrs or so, the championship leader has mostly been the first car off the start line.

Reverse order always seems a bit illogical to me - in a point-to-point race with cars starting together the car leading the event would always be the first on the road. Reversing the running order with the intention of giving the leading cars more of an advantage than they already have (on some dry gravel rallies) seems quite contrived. I'm not sure why you think it would add interest to live stages?Quote:

Qualifying stages have some merit, but as far as I remember they always used very short stages for qualifying, which can give an advantage to some drivers who are better at short stages over drivers who do better on longer stages.
Of course there is also the point that whatever road position is an advantage on loose dry gravel is a disadvantage on wet tarmac with mud being dragged onto the road, or where there is hanging dust, or roads getting more rough and rocky with each car...

Anyone with an amazing road position and speed on day one gets penalised on day two. Anyone who gets banged with road sweeping on day one should have a better position on day two. In theory it should even out. Then reverse order gives a level playing field if we get a final day shoot-out. You also don't need a degree in mathematics to understand it.
