What about the PET cars. Is it same car for the rally? I mean for example enginewise...
It depends. Event PET cars will typically be in the same specification as the ones they will use for the rally, though they may try some new components / settings. It's rare a team will try something on a PET (development parts that have not been homologated for example) that they can't or won't use on an event, unless it's something that needs urgent testing.

Lappi doing develomemt test for Hyundai in Finland. Suninen did previous days as I understand
https://x.com/lpaanala/status/172008...C1kV5QC61vX5Xg
Why would he develop the car in which he won't race next year
Tänak did also a test last year with the new rear wing and updates although he was leaving
So I’m with Pluto on this that it necessarily doesn’t mean he continues with them although I myself I’m sure he does
that depends on a lot of things. i don't think there's any secret weapon at this time of development ( it's not like it's the first year and you can come up with big changes). sometimes you want to benefit from an experienced driver with your car, who can evaluate progress. no point in testing with people that never driven the car before. another reason is timing: what if they need to test something now to choose a direction? they cannot wait for a contract to expire (and there's not much on the market to use as a substitute, tanak can't test properly now -maybe some secret run, but testing is different-) so you test with the current drivers. and so on...
i guess no testing this year for the new season like last year?
or have teams still some days left?
Hyundai and Toyota can of course test in Finland any time
Hyundai has actually 4 testing days still and also 3 jokers compared to Toyotas 0

I know contracts are usually valid until end of the year, but has there been cases when a ,,leaving driver'' has tested new car before new year?
