BREAKING NEWS:
New three year contract with WRC Promoter for Rally Sweden.
The negotiations have been going on for almost six months and today Rally Sweden can confirm that a new three year contract with WRC Promoter has been signed.
– One week ago we were more dead than alive and couldn´t see any future for the event.
Now, once again, we have managed to put on an amazing event and it is an amazing feeling to be able to confirm that we have agreed on a new three year contract.
We have an absolutely amazing organization that proves that we can pull through the hardest of times. Closer to magic, simply put, says a very pleased Glenn Olsson, CEO at Rally Sweden.

Must also congratulate Henning with a very good result.
Has not been driving rally for å year, no PET, and a quarreling gearbox, that he fixed banging on the air compressor :p
He still has the speed, and would be cool if he could get one testrally, full PET and a top notch car in 2017, that would be utterly cool. Maybe he should buy a R5 for the Norwegian series, but I guess the focus now is on Oscar and Pontus !
But all in all, not a bad result for an old man!! And his interviews are still epic!!
Well deserved three year contract for Rally Sweden!
Good news.
My wishlist for the next three years:
- Service area in Hagfors with a smaller remote service on Friday in Norway
- Skip Karlstad altogether and have the entire rally in northern half Värmland/south western Dalarna + the current Norwegian stages.
The RS organizers + the promoter needs to realize that Karlstad is too far south.- At least two more stages on Saturday and two more stages on Sunday. Preferable at least one full "night stage". Would love to see Vargåsen
or Rämmen being used as "night stage". In general too few stages. Silly to have the final stage on Saturday to start at half past 3 in the afternoon.- No SSS in Karlstad, possible one SSS on the Rallycross track in Höljes and also one SSS in Hagfors, but at the most
two SSS in the entire rally. Three is too many.- A couple of more stage cams then just Colin's crest.
- Better dialogue with fans and drivers.
- If possible have one or two back up stages in case some stage cannot be run because of weather.
That said, I think it's very unlikely that any of this will happen but at least one can hope.
Quite awesome win for Ogier, even by his standards. To open the road here for basically the whole rally and still take a clear win is some feat.
The problems and mistakes by the others (Mikkelsen, Meeke, Latvala, Neuville) certainly helped but Ogier was going flat-out for the win despite the road conditions he faced.
If anything he is becoming even more dominant and I think he's now at his peak. The rest are nowhere.
Personally I think that he is yet to reach his peak. He's only 33 this year and I think he have another 4-5 years minimum
until his peak and then at least another 4-5 years on a very competitive level. I don't think Loeb had declined that much (if anything)
when he retired and unlike in many other sports, in motorsports in general and in rally in particular being 40+ isn't that much of a deal.
So in Ogier's case I think it's more a matter of motivation then age that will decide when he retires.
Great drives from Paddon, Ogier and Tänak.
Mikkelsen was totally lost at this one, so many mistakes!
Breen did better than i expected. Henning was pretty good too.
Camilli? i think WIlson has set him goals to just finish the rallies and get experience but he cant even do that at the moment.
Evans also suprised me at this one but imo we didnt get to see straight fight between him and Skodas.
Suninen and Bergkvist very good! Suninen especially!

Save of the season? Vargåsen 2, @SebOgier near enough flat out, so around 190KPH in his Polo & it steps out of line!

190 kph? wow. All-in-all very difficult win for him cleaning the fresh snow most of the time and going flat out, despite some drivers indeed eased him.
Positive surprises for me were also Breen and Suninen.... and Tanak - perhaps going in DMack team is doing him good as he seem more conscious about the conditions to handle, as in tyres in this case, job well done. Of course also Paddon did great rally as well with completely new car for him, this man is growing with each rally.
A little more info in this article: http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportblade...cle22263855.ab
- When it comes the staging fee, it will be slightly higher for each year (sort of a step climb).
- RS have received allot of instructions/pointers (pekpinnar) for next year that they have to solve before the summer.
I.e. accommodation and making sure that they rally is held in snow conditions. According to the article, Glenn Olsson at RS
says that week 6 normally is the snow safest week in the rally's region.- Very avoiding answer on how the are going to make sure that the rally is held in snowy conditions. Basically all of Europe suffered from southerly winds.
- RS says that they have a plan each year that FIA, WRC promoter and the teams have to approve first.
RS Will evaluate this year's rally before deciding if there is anything that needs to be moved.- "The drivers want to keep it in Värmland", but the "only" one quoted is Pontus Tidemand. ;)
Just to add that the great winners of this Rally Sweden are the organizers. They’ve done a terrific job! The contract renewal it’s great to them and to WRC, as RS is one of the most iconic events of the season. Like some of you already said, let’s hope they can get more northern ss to avoid weather risks.
It’s also great to see that this year the VW’s aren’t so far away from competition (Meeke at MC and now Paddon, they both put Ogier under real pressure!) and that WRC2 it’s full of young talented drivers.
One final note about Lappi: probably there’s too much criticism on him; Ok, he did a mistake (like so many others, including Ogier), but he got some extra pressure because of the silly start position that was given to him at first leg (like in MC). To me he’s the only one capable to fight Evans for the WRC2 title.
P.S.: terrible season start for Camilli. Hope he can get over it and start to show all his potential!

Something changed on Polo's rear suspension?

lol again? Here we go Seb, let's go for it next year again
That's a smart approach. Rather than penalising him once and him paying a fine, this way he knows if he cheats again on recce (which is what he is doing by speeding that much) he will start the rally with a big penalty.
yeah it looks different from original one:

first photo is far away and too much dirt to watch differences.
Seems that Ogier is regular "tax" payer in Sweden, aound 1,5 k Eur each January :P But this is narrow escape indeed. If the stewards would have written about speeding during the "rally", and not specified it as "recce" then it would have ended with 5th place for him. Interesting that it always happens in Sweden.
