Would be nice to see some 2017 WRC cars there.
I am not sure if homologation for 2017 WRC cars is valid out of WRC events now...
Any ASN can allow whatever it wants on the national level.
Looking forward to it. I don't expect any 2017 WRC cars, but anyway competition should be tought, like always.
..
Yazeed with Fiesta WRC now on Arctic Rally entries.
Jarkko Nikara is going to Arctic Rally with new car and surprise co-driver.
Strong rumor says:
Subaru from Tommi
Japanise lady co-driver, very close friend of Akio Toyoda
Sponsored by John Deere again?
http://blog.machinefinder.com/wp-con...ow-removal.jpg
Yes, Subaru from TMR for Nikara is sure, don't know the codriver
I think that it will be that Katsuta's ex-codriver... Adachi?
https://toyotagazooracing.com/releas...y/0112-01.html
Nikara-Adachi
Maybe this is Nikaras´best option to go further. Better than his co-driver ...
Nikara-Adachi has entered to SM1 class.
SM1 = R5,S2000,WRC 02 and evo/sti which are not FIA legal
SM2 = N and R4
To me that means: They are going to drive with something else later, Yaris R5 ?
Nikara is TGR´s main test driver for new R5.
Why Marko Salminen is with Takamoto Katsuta?
My bet is that Miikka Anttila or Kaj Lindström is going to end his career soon and Salminen will be new co-driver of Latvala/Hänninen
..
All true!
but:
-Nikara has never won FC, with in SM2 that may have been happening
-TMR will develop R2 and R5, but aren´t going to build new factory...
-Takamoto´s another ex co-driver is with Nikara.
-we will see.
=)
ps.Ville Ruokanen was testing with Printsport Fabia R5
I thought that he will be in SM2, but it was Jarkko's decission. SM1 and SM2 spec cars has quite big cap in engine.
Will be hard on current facilities. To make 50-200 cars instead of current 9-10..
Arai and Takamoto are still competing for the place so no guarantee for wrc seat. For Marko this is ofc step up to get place in works team, get paid, so the right race's the future. Much smarter than running in frc for years :)

Maybe someone knows about some tests around Rovaniemi on Saturday 21.01? I will have one day free then before our tests so would like to maybe see something.
It's so good to see a 208 T16 not hampered by reliability problems !!! Juha Salo leading the field at Arctic Lapland Rally with 3 stages left to go :)
Behind him, Asunmaa(+16") and Mänty(+22"8) driving Skoda Fabia R5 and Nikara(+22") his Subaru...
Why do they write Salo lost 22' on SS6(he was +9" before they changed time) ????
Edit: it was a problem with the times, RAS for Juha...
Oh noooo, gutted, Teemu Asunmaa beats Juha Salo at the end of the Arctic Lapland for 7"7(big time on the 54km final stage) :mark:
Asunmaa - how old is he? ewrc does not appear to have details.
https://youtu.be/tmskdORawiA (stage 3)
Is Salo's car getting a bit old? Does PSA have a newer R5 for him?
what about the 2 Japanese Toyota drivers ? (Katsuta,Arai)
Jarkko Nikara highest placed TMR car - 4th in Subaru
https://www.ewrc-results.com/final.p...and-Rally-2017
11th- Hiroki Arai
45th - Katsuta
Jarkko Nikara with only RWD on the last stage. Read from a Finnish forum that he made a gear change from fifth gear to second and the front drive didn’t like it. Maybe we will have more news when pantealex and br21 returns from the rally.

yes, truth with Nikara, pity as he was driving really well.
great event, really special, one of a kind. japanese juniors - one had technical issues, other lost lot of time on one stage. which is nothing extraordinary when you look how often it happened to other drivers, those stages are really demanding. Salo was driving great, using his experience and showing that well maintained PSA R5 can be good car! Other DS3 R5 also finished high.
They seem to have improved: Katsuta - 4th stage time (SM1) (+10.8s) on 22km SS1 behind Nikara, Salo and Manty.
Also Arai did quite well after 2016 performances. Until penultimate stage fifth overall (SM1) and some 3rd and 4th fastest times. Some problem or off in the last stage.
Salo testing and day 1

Could the Arctic be run a week or two later? Can a few stages be run over the border in Russia?
Finalnd could have two world rallies a winter and summer event. Run a 'Midnight Sun' event in Sweden a few weeks before NORF?

Some comments from Harri to go4speed.lv
"We were waiting this for a quiet long time, we are happy now. Thank the Finnish ASN. This decision was pleasant surprise for us, so no plans for Finland yet. Now we got to start to do our plans. Latvian championship remains a priority for us. Maybe we will take a part in SM Vaakuna-Ralli which is a week after Rally Sarma".

Vaakuna-ralli is turning out to be an event to wait for. Interesting entries coming, Ketomaa, Rovanperä possible, some others too and who knows how Baltic drivers treat the event (it's a part of Baltic trophy).
Kalle Rovanperä confirmed to Vaakuna-ralli (17.-18.2.), also another young talent Alex Forsström (20) making his 4WD debut with TGS Skoda R5.
Both of them will be also driving in the 3rd FRC event in Tahko ( 10.-11.3.)!

Very interesting rally! Jari Ketomaa is driving in his backyard, but not eligible for the points (non-homologated Mirage R5) & the same with Kalle Rovanperä (special permission), but they must be fighting the overall win. Arctic winner Teemu Asunmaa is hard to beat, Juha Salo is always there and Marko Mänty showed in Arctic that he has the speed. Jarkko Nikara is always fast, but it will be difficult to beat R5 cars with the Subaru. His own Green Monster would be probably faster...
In the SM3 category Jari Huttunen driving the Opel ADAM R2 must be the favourite, but Emil Lindholm (208 R2) should be not far away...
Ketomaa´s car is SpaceStar, facelift version of Mirage.
Subaru of Nikara is not N+, engine is custom build, faster car than old Evo9.
