SS11 onboards starting to drop in on WRC+ (only Toyotas so far)
Well Martin just arrived back on the bike driven by local guy :D.(video on his Instagram story) But the car still wasn’t there.
Interesting comment there by neuville quaoted by dimviii that he knew Ott wasn’t going far but he didn’t mentioned anything at the stage end.
There is no watersplash anywhere between the start of the stage and where Tanak stopped. So it sounds more like the alternator, this talk about water is maybe some confusion?
Neville knew before he stated stage.. so issue from previous stage?
Well, then I don’t know either. I just quoted what Linstrom said but maybe he messed something up?
Alternator it must be then.
Citroen Racing
Confused when the route seemed to differ from the roadbook, @SebOgier lost a lot of time, breaking the power steering. He then showed great skill to fight his way back to podium places.

from TGR end of day media release
"He [Ott] ended the morning loop only 6.4 seconds from the lead, but stopped on SS14 after he had started to lose battery voltage prior to the stage. The team is preparing the car to restart on the final day from ninth position overall."
Tommi Mäkinen (Team Principal)
“Ott was showing very good performance again here in Argentina until he had to stop this afternoon. We are investigating the problem, but we know that the battery was losing voltage prior to the stage, so we think it is probably something to do with the alternator or battery.

Ott Tänak (Driver car 8)
“We had a good start this morning. The roads today were very different to what we had yesterday: really smooth and fast in places. There were still a few slippery places, so the grip was inconsistent. We were looking forward to having a big push in the afternoon, but we knew in the first stage that we had a problem, that the battery voltage was going down, and in the second stage we had to retire. Of course, it’s disappointing. With the performance we have I believe we are capable of winning any rally, but we still have some work to do. Tomorrow we’ll do what we can, and we’ll keep pushing: it’s a long season.”
SS11 Gate-gate penalty
Mads Ostberg, Ott Tanak and Kris Meeke have all received a 10 second penalty for taking right hand option thru gate rather than road book indicated (left hand) option over cattle grid.
Seb Ogier move up into P3, Dani Sordo up into P4 and Kris Meeke drops down to P5.
Stewards decision re Mads can be found here http://www.rallyargentina.com/wp-con...sion-No.-3.pdf
With Ostberg, Tanak and Meeke received a 10 sec penalty!

I posted the roadbook box here: https://www.motorsportforums.com/sho...=1#post1215267
, it's missing the explanation of the symbol which is mentioned in the decision. If it really means "gate" rather than "pole on right" (which I thought), it's hard to argue against.
In other news Tanak might just about be able to catch Ostberg for 8th.
I think the definitive thing is the cattle grid which is on the left route, not on the right. The road book tells you to drive over a cattle grid.
Last year the route went through the right path with the cattle grid blocked

So Ogier got what he wanted again.

I think the gap between Tänak and Ostberg is too big, 2 minutes with only 52kms left. Plus Ott is opening the road.
Last year the fastest R5 was 1:13 slower than the fastest WRC car on the Sunday leg. So unless Østberg hits trouble or drives super carefully, no chance for Tänak.
I hope Ogier goes off the road today after complaining about gate post
I bet people are now wishing they went after Seb when he forgot his time card in Sardignia...
Or did they all go after them for that fiasco??
Ah yes I remember that now lol. And this year Ott gets a nice 10 sec penality... If was still in the chase it would have been a shitty situation for him...
Today will be a good Sunday. The stages are epic...
Man, that was a bad afternoon for Toyota. From a reasonable position at lunchtime, Meeke dropped 2 places on a penalty, and Tanak is restarting.
I guess Meeke is 4 seconds behind Sordo now. That would be worth chasing, but I wouldn't blame the team if they want Meeke and Latvala to avoid going crazy today.
Ogier is not a six-time World Champion for nothing. He never gives up, is ruthless and will fight like a hyena for every possible little advantage that he can gain, both on the stage and off it. I like that. He has more F1 mentality than the usually more gentlemanly WRC drivers. Especially after the VW time this trait has really come to the fore big time, when he has to really fight hard for his titles. Loeb is still the greatest for me, but let's keep in mind Ogier has packed six in a row in an era that is far more competitive than Loeb's Championship years were. If the Age of Sebs ends before Ogier retires, whoever ends it will have really had to work for it.
who remembers this from rally mexico?
Toyota testing new alternator that stopped Latvala on Rally Mexico https://www.autosport.com/wrc/news/1...r-after-mexico
i wonder if they had the new one now. curious to know
TGR in general is riddled with alternator issues throughout their racing genres... I think they need a new supplier but politics are strong.... LeMans car had alternator failure along with many circuit racing cars during testing... Pity
In Mexico J. Porter was saying that (all) WRC cars turn off the alternator in stagemode so that they don't reduce engine power. Somehow i don't get how that fits with Tanak "loosing charge" on SS13?
I get that if he couldn't charge between SS13 and SS14 and started SS14 with weak battery he then retired, but they said he started loosing charge in the middle of SS13.
-------------
Btw. another car that always seemed to have alternator issues was Peugeot 207 S2000.
Not so sure about that, the batteries in these cars are so tiny, and that car, once it is started (again, huge amount of power) is a big consumer itself, not to mention nightstages, where there are massive amounts of additonal lighting fitted (some still use halogens i believe? in any case, consumption is high, several hundred watts)+ ofc FIA and All live equipment. Going 50 km on a batterie with this i can`t imagine...
Maybe there is an option, to get that "extra boost", on some shorter stages?
