Yep, he used that style also with former generation cars.

Signs of a non functioning team;
- No Teamboss
- A substitute boss with little to no authority
- A driver with a wannabe teamboss feeling in his belly
- No sharing of data btw drivers
- A pissed off world champion, that can not get a car that behaves as he wants.
- A junior driver that was pushed to much to soon.
Does not sound like a recipee for success!
Surely the mental game is part of what happens when you develop as a driver with time?
Or are you saying you already need to be completely 100% confident and not let *anything* affect you *at all* in your first proper year as a full works driver in a team that is acting haphazardly at best with a poor car? Because that is completely unrealistic, maybe unless you are Loeb or Ogier.
To me what puts pressure on a driver is when there's a team who demands a certain level of results, or even more, when a driver is in a fight for a podium, a rally or a championship. I can only imagine the amount of stress when you're about to start a decisive stage!
But a teammate being "mean" to you? Sure, not nice, but what is he going to do? He can't hinder you on a stage. Release interviews talking bad about you? I only recall Monte, in which Neuville said Oliver should have tried to keep going despite the problems.
I don't know how much Oliver blames his performance on himself or on the car or on his teammate, but this seems waaay out of proportion.
Or Rovanpera. He is truly a freak to have the confidence and mental strength to be at the top level at such a young age. Remember the next youngest Champion was McRae - at 5 years older !
So J4MIE is correct about young Solberg, you need to cut him some slack and not expect him to be at the top level in any way yet.
Sorry.
Disagree.
By the fans and us guys on certain forums we thought and hoped he would be at top level. Else we don´t know a thing about expectations on him, I´d say.
Below average? How do you measure that? If average is Fourmaux and Loubet, he beat them in the overall standings not driving all rounds...
This years livery

Anyone got an image for those of us not on facebook? I’d need to log in to see anything past the homepage
Edit: found it on twitter:

The livery was actually designed by a guy who goes by the name Sims Racing on youtube/reddit etc. He created the livery to showcase the Fabia RS Rally2 mod for Assetto Corsa.
When I put it to him that I assumed it was Solberg’s livery for this year he responded “I guess he’ll have the same livery as Lindholm and Gryazin but with a black bonnet which has Monster Energy on it”. Good to see Solberg has decided to use the livery for real!
Petter again present at test Oliver test... no independece whatsoever

This is how us from Norway look at the nationality of Oliver!
Him being 50/50 a production of a Norwegian and a Swede :D
(still hard for me to get a pic directly displayed on a post!)
For me it doesn´t matter. He is what he is. A young good and talent rallydriver.
Guess there are standards for how to look at it.
You are old when you have seen father's first WRC win and his son's first win.
Petter also beat Estonian, Markko Märtin on his maiden win rally GB.
You are old when you remember PerInge in the Stratos
I remember him in the Volvo 142 in the UK.
I know I'm old because when somebody says Makinen, I think of Timo!
I remember him in the Volvo 142 in the UK before the Stratos.

Fantastic achievement in Estonia and just goes to show that the same rule applies as in most sports in that its about practice, practice and more practice and not just talent. Oliver has had more seat time testing and on events than any other driver his age I can think of so good to see that come to fruition. Also the move from the Fabia to the Yaris in Rally 2 probably didnt hurt..
not sure it is still on youtube but Oliver won the 2018 rallyx nordic title on the same DS3 petter won 2 world rallycross championships (´14 & ´15), it was such a fun championship to watch. if you manage to find it, go watch it
Will Oliver get more Rally1 chances in 2025, are there any signals?
Is there any certainity that Oliver will get a seat in 2026? Like where? Katsuta is Japanese, Evans and Rovanpera probably won't move and Ogier will probably still do some rallies, we don't know? Will they bring 6 cars or just bench Pajari or just rotate Pajari x Solberg? So many questions, so many drivers and not so many cars to drive.. Both Pajari and Solberg definitely deserve full season, and I have to say it, Katsuta doesn't deserve Rally1 seat IMO.. He is fast, but can't catch the speed of the best guys on Friday and if he eventually does, he crashes.
To me.. If Pajari doesn't bring podium this year, I don't see him having full time seat in 2026.. but Toyota is Finnish, so most likely he stays..
There is a known cliché - you can not make a reliable driver fast, but you may make a fast driver reliable.
Oliver's past is quite clearly "fast but not reliable". We can see at the moment that the speed is still there, and reliability is being learned. He achieved with the Rally Estonia more than many Rally1/WRC drivers have done with their entire career. He dominated and took the win; it was not gifted to him because of problems or mistakes by others.
This is a statement for team bosses. We don't know what is already agreed, but at the moment, it is hard to imagine the situation if he is not a full-time driver for the next season (if the teams are still in the game).
As a bonus, Solberg by default is a good marketing asset for the team because of his social media presence.
This year, he needs to finish "the WRC2 job".
When will he be back in Rally1 ?

I just feel we can't make the conclusion too quickly, As we can still remember the beautiful two events performance from Sesks in last year,And then sesks became a normal guy till now with no more surprise.
We should wait and see the following behavior from Mr Solberg to check if he can continue to show the speed and consistent
Oliver has to finish 2 or 3 more races i wrc2 to secure the WDC. But interesting to see if he do 1 or 2 more WRC1 outings this year, i think so.

A lot may depend on how well the other Toyota team drivers perform in the next events. If they do well and the Manufacturers points scored are good, then they may not need Ogier in later events and Solberg can step in to his car.
Do we know if Oliver will do any tarmac rallies (in Rally2) this year? His performance on tarmac has been a bit of a question mark as I've understood it.
I'm quite sure that for points/no points or with rally1/rally2.. he will do all the rounds..
No shortage of backing so he will do all the events practically available to him and depending on if and when he wraps up the WRC 2 title will decide when he gets another turn in the Rally 1 car.
From a UK perspective though would be good to see him do the Roger Albert Clark historic rally again in November...
We really need a 4th team.
Oliver did not spend much time in the US. It generated a lot of publicity as his father was also around and you'll see more Subarus (competititors and volunteers) at ARA events than anywhere else.
Driving a car that wasnt terribly limited by WRC rules is a good start but I'd think he's gotten more substantive experience over the last five years.
