Franchitti was the highest vote-getter among ALL drivers for the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association Titus award. Alex Lloyd made the first team All-America.

The most important award he received was not given its due - a NASCAR contract thus saving him from the overhead camera angles that he was producing for the IRL without receiving compensation for his camera work.
I like him however, and can hardly wait to see him racing sportscar in the next couple years.

Not sure what overhead camera angles you're referring to, but on a sports telecast, Kobe Bryant, David Ortiz, Peyton Manning, etc., don't get paid for the competition. Yes, NASCAR DOES have a split to the TEAMS. Whether any driver gets any of it or not is anyone's guess. And Franchitti is the third IRL driver in four years to win the award.
