woooohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really missed my NASCAR fix last Sunday- I need the oval racing to offset the endless road racing we get in the UK

Amazing, NASCAR in the UK finds another new dancing partner !
Would like to know who is behind this, so we can all send our thanks, and also see how reputable they are. Be able to drop my SKY sport subscription now, wonder how much we will see, maybe get some of the prerace show as well :)

I'm slightly concerned,
The other Open Access channel 2 and the bizarre programmes it listed for this evening did not work on my box, just a blank screen?
What does this mean? How do we know the Open Access channel 3 is going to work. You would think it would have some sort of official Nascar graphic on there as some sort of indication or a company statement.
I'm not going to be settled with this until I see the guys from Fox on there.

It look just fine, yeah video and audio is abit off, but we've got it from the start just like in the old days of NASN. SKY sports directors, hope your watching how it should have been done, and maybe you could learn a thing or two.

me too- no ad breaks either and I have my Sunday night NASCAR fix again- it will be fine and better than watching some web stream or downloading it the next day
it's broadcast in SD- so if you have an HDTV anything shown in SD looks a bit off- watched some tennis earlier on SS4 and it looked crap compared to the usual HD coverage

I've just come in and switched it on, feed is not exactly the smoothest but hey my TV is an old bubble front ferguson anyway lol.
I'm seriously well happy with this if we get it for the rest of the season. Reminds me of watching the Busch series on Motors and then the feed on Nasn. Great American warm up and looks like live feeds on USA breaks.
Looks like there has been enough of a community of us to get this turned around. Much thanks to the dude who has sorted this. I certainly had emailed Nascar and ESPN saying that all we need is a live feed of the American coverage.
Some Nationwide, Trucks and NHRA drag racing would top it off lol.

Looking at a stream for comparison, I'd say the feed we get is 4:3, whereas it's really a 16:9 image. That's why it looks odd.

Whoever the mystery people who are busting a gut to do this for us, they have some teething problems. I wish them all the luck they need, it's fine for me on the big TV. It will get better over the coming weeks, I am just pleased it's back on :)

Its fab to have Live NASCAR back, yes the picture isnt exactly the sharpest in the world, but neither was it perfect on Sky Sports (and we were expected to pay through the nose for that!) Also add in the fact that we get the entire Fox show inc. buildup and i'd give it a big thumbs up, on balance it's way better than the bootleg net streams and its free!

in this day and age everything should be hd anyway. on sky we get about 35 hd channels on direct tv in america they 200+ hd channels shows how far behind we are in europe and its cheaper rip off britain i hate it. got plans to move to the states anyway

The picture quality wasn't great but I was just glad it was on outright
Given how much of a minority interest NASCAR is in Britain (small enough to mean that Sky dropped it, and Channel 5's highlights were always in the middle of the night), anything is good - particularly a channel that while low-grade appears to exist entirely for the purpose of broadcasting the race and as such will never cut it for anything else! (my Sky+ program had an extra hour of blankness recorded on top of what was broadcast)

No it shoudn't. I already have to pay the government over £120 pounds a year for the privelige of owning a TV in the first place, with the (soon to be reduced) Sky subscrition on top of that. I refuse to pay even more for an HD system. Okay the picture quality wasn't great but it was no worse than watching a stream, and prior to the Open Access deal a lot of people were resigned to putting up with that.
If I was an Open Access exec reading this I'd be wondering why I bothered...

Ive just got back from 2 weeks in the states (went to the fontana and vegas races) so to come home to this news is so amazing, never in my wildest dreams did i expect us to have live sprint cup racing again on tv.Can someone please who put this deal together and where i can send a thank you e-mail to.Also who/what is open access tv,is it part of sky entertainment, news or sports package?

part of the reason for this is that NTSC was such a poor format in the first place that the jump from that to HD is far greater than the jump from PAL to HD. NTSC in widescreen is even worse so American broadcasters didn't bother with it, unlike here in the UK where PAL in 16:9 is common.
and for jeff: open access is free to air. anyone can access it on a sky box (channel 190).

I thought it was looking better for a minute but it still seems squished on my relic of a TV and quite pixelated still. If only I had a 16:9 ratio button my TV because on my modern portable it sorts it out. I can't adjust it on my Sky+ box?
Think the sound is better though.
Still grateful to have the Sprint Cup anyway :)

open access coverage is really good.
picture is good..
sound is good..
It's the racing that's important, not about it being in 1020HD quality with super annoy your neighbours surround sound.
I'm happy, hell we are all happy, and no EU forced British studio content.
thanks to the open access nascar team.

Yes even though there was an abrupt end of feed before we saw Kurt in Victory lane (which to be fair looked like it may have been beyond the channels control) I'm still not going to hold it against this coverage. I was able to go onto a stream and get the post race anyway. In hindsight I think the picture was better than last week.
They were pretty good about the add breaks too.
Thanks from me too.

Yep, we have a big 42 plasma TV and the picture quality was much improved this week, absolutely equal to any other non-HD channel. And last week we were thankful to have it at all and it was certainly acceptable enough.
Thumbs up again to Open Access TV - thanks guys, whoever you are!

I'm not trying to nit-pick but it's 1080, lol ;)
but yes, this weeks coverage was a vast improvement on last week, although my sky+hd box stopped recording at 10 even though the race wasn't over. i think i'll be setting a manual record for it every week now to cater for any over-run.

It's fine, my 50" something on the wall looked fine with the magic box that is connected to a dish of somesort. I am still amazed how they get the little blue circle to go round in circles.

Not got a Sky box so no open access for me
However, how bad is that one hour highlight show? Random jumps it seems - no sense of continuity at all........
NoahsGirl
6th April 2010, 12:57
I agree Colinspooky. The first half hour is very random, just showing bits and pieces. It's like it builds up to the last two dozen laps which then get shown in with no jumps.
I suppose the highlights are better than nothing.

With so many channels going off air overnight, you would think they could show it ALL through the night so we could at least record it

A quick question to my friends across the pond...
I'm trying to clean up the page a little, we have way to many "sticky items" at the top of the page. I'm trying to gauge just how interested y'all are at keeping this stuck at the top of the page, or would you mind if I unstuck it like a normal thread.
I realize I could just do it, but I really wanted your thoughts since this thread exists specifically for our British friends.
Cheers
