I hope that Dudu can pass Atko tomorrow. Could help him a lot for the rest of the season bringing the Stobard Ford in the 3rd place. Definitely is a driver that I would like to see all season and not just in tarmac rallies. He can be fast also in gravel surfaces and WRC can't afford loosing drivers of this level. Actually is a bit inconceivable having Wilson and Al Qassimy as WRC regulars and Dudu as a tarmac rally entry....!

When it comes to green, Al Qassimy is way ahead Dudu ;)

Hi ya all rally pervs! :D

Been following the rally pretty much all the time but not forced myself to write anything to forum since i'm too lazy.

Anyway battle of the 3rd place seem to be quite tence, but again I'm a bit gutted by the fact that it seems that there's not going to be any battle for the 1st place in any of the tarmac rallys this year. Seb is just too good at the moment. I was hoping that Mikko could throw somekind of a challence, but not a chance I see. And Stobart Ford is just too slow, as we can see from Duval's pace.

Yes ofcourse I agree is like this. But that doesn't change the fact that is really bad having those guys who fight for position no8 to no15 as regulars and not having a driver who can fight for the top 3 positions.

Moneywise I know is the other way around but WRC continuing to loose status and orientation exposure this way.

I don't think the Stobart Ford is too slow, Duval has a new-codriver that is in the deal with Vergallen that has paid his drive and he's not as good as Smeets or Pivato.
I also think that Ford is the car that was wearing the tires the less and with the Pirelli of this year it's maybe not the best as you can see that the Subaru are on the pace.

+ Duval has hardly driven the past years, and the Focus is basicly a new car for him. All in all I think he's doing a decent job keeping everything together.

That is my thought either.
And Atkinson is very good here. Even with a Subaru 2007. Good work!

pettersolberg29

I cannot believe what I'm hearing about Petter.
He is by far the nicest and most fun driver in the WRC (not as cocky as Gigi!), and without him the stages would be half as full as currently because Solberg's Army is massive. No-one would even have heard of WRC if it weren't for Petter and the Subaru who have excellently carried on the legend that the late Colin McRae (RIP) started, as no British drivers have a hope and rally is stuggling with the 'no-charatcers' of Loeb and Hirvonen.
Also, he has shown over the last 5 years that he is a very talented driver - correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't he beaten his team-mate in every season at Subaru, won the title and come second a couple of times? Don't get me wrong, Atkinson will be a class act, but Petter has always had the edge over him, and I'd put a million quid on Petter finishing above Chris by the end of the 2008 season.
Finally, I'm not sure about this, but I think that Solberg's best ever finish on Monte Carlo is 6th, definately in the last few years, so to beat that position in an old car and with more tarmac specialists (i.e. Duval) that is quite good in my opinion.

Ok, let me rephrase what I meant. Stobart is not quick enough so Duval could challenge Loeb. If anyone wants to be able to challenge Seb the machinery needs to be best available. And unfortunately Stobard is not the best possible.

Yeah but no way Duval is jumping in the second seat either at ford or citroen(although there he wouldnt be ALLOWED to challenge Loeb! but thats an other story). So I think right now Stobart is the best "possible". what else is he going to drive? a whale? a skoda? a non Citroen sport Xsara? a Subaru? :s So yes I think Stobart is the best he can get right now, unless a Aava like deal or something like that...

When Stobart Ford became considerably slower than works Ford? If Latvala is any indication the difference is practically non-existent. Latvala actually set very good stage times last in Catalunya and Corcica - near to Hirvonen and Grönholm in many stages.

It's quite obvious that Ford overally is not as fast as C4 on tarmac.

A bit OT, but,
I´ve been in rallying world since late 50s, and have had the priviledge to know all the best rallydrivers till late 70s. Those boys were the real CHARACTERS. They had the ability to enjoy the life, make unbelievable tricks to fellow competitors and they were really a society of sportsmen.

Of course I know that nowadays money talks, practising is limited to a mininimum and in most cases you have to pay for your seat.

The cost of rallying has gone far, far away!

The point of my original post was that it seem that we are going to have load of dull tarmac races when it comes to the fight of the number 1 spot. I was hoping that either Mikko or Duval could challenge Loeb in Monte. Well I can see now that I was clearly wrong. I really hope that someones steps up and challenges Seb in tarmac also, otherwise this season is going to be really awkward to follow.

It's the first rally of the season! Did we not learn our lesson from last year that conditions, positions, and results change from one rally to another? Last year was exciting, even though I don't like Germany or Spain, and I'm looking forward to a great season.

Fifth paragraph from the bottom:

The safety nets, still under development with the teams, will be placed along the centre-line of the car, between the driver and co driver, in order to limit the excursion of the occupants, and prevent them impacting each other during a violent impact or roll.

What do you predict? who will be third ATKO or DUDU

DonJippo

All cars start in the same order they do yesterday. FIA has ruled only 3 days/legs. Not 4 like Monte want to do.

I thought that but Sordo was 2nd after leg 2 not third?

I think Atko, Duval must stay on the road.

HaCo

They may have it both, but i think DUDU will make it...

In N4 there is a new leader! Burri took back the lead in his brand new N14 with 18secs, yesterday Artru was 2.7 secs in front of Burri. Could the first rally of the Subaru N14 be a victory? :)

Thanx a lot for compliment, but if we try to implement splits, we'll be in the same position like Estonian guys = depending on WRC.com splits again. That's a little harsh... considering how much onboards, interviews, footage etc they've put on it this weekend, IMHO it's a 1,000,000% improvement on last year... and the online stream will probably rely more on the French host broadcaster getting the coverage right...
