Collin said that Hirvonen picked up a time penalty on the last stage. Anybody know why?

Maybe to promote Gronholm to 3rd?

No, he just said that it is possible that Ford team will hold Mikko somewhere, in order to get a time penalty and let Marcus stay in 3rd position. But it is only a speculation made by Colin :)

Hopefully Marcus will make it back.

All depends on Marcus' journey back to service :s

I must say I wonder what those guys are thinking with throwing out uninformed ideas "Big off" "Marcus has no back wheels" etc.

The "Big off" comment came from WRC radio...

N.O.T

Marcus put a spare wheel on and he is off.....

Luckin
19th August 2007, 13:50
then kopeky 3rd if gronholm and mikko large penalties?

No way, but I think Skoda Fabia WRC will never get so close to the podium again in the future...

According to WRR, Marcus changed one wheel before heading to service.

If Marcus can't get back to service, he will finish 7th.

Hopefully he will, then Mikko can be 2 minutes late to finish 3 seconds behind him.

Yeah, but that was 1,5 years ago. I mean it will never happen again.

And to be honest, I will be more than satisfied with 5th if only Marcus makes it back. Fingers crossed for him.

So either way top 5 for Skoda for the first time?

It's not a first top5 finish for Fabia. Kopecký was 5th in Catalunya 2006.

Duval very good job, but he should have won. Good job none the less.

I would say that Grönholm and Seb are in quite equal footings from that moment. Marcus is likely to loose his points advantage to Seb on tarmac but on the other hand he could be bit stronger in gravel rallies.

But it has to be said that Marcus has done incredible season to this moment.
Now he did his first slight error which was partly caused by cow incident. He said that his listening of notes was confused in that moment.

I see that championship will not be down to few points. Much is down to the reliability of drivers and their cars.

The problem for Marcus is, that Loeb will be at least on par with him on gravel, and only Hirvonen can prevent him from getting more points. And on asphalt there're much more drivers who can finish behind Loeb but ahead of Gronholm... unfortunately...

Koz

For some reason I still think we should not count out Petter and Attkinson on gravel either. More than anything else, I think they will hamper Marcus the most.

Is that the one with the off-road package? ;)

BTW, before this rally there was some discussion on the forum about where the best performance ever of the Fabia WRC was. I think we could now say it was Kopecky here in Deutschland, or if not then Catalunya last year. No stage wins for Jan this year, but on some of the stages in Deutschland the gap to the stage winner was very small indeed.

After Finland show I would say that Marcus will be at least as strong as Loeb in coming gravel rallies. I also think that he is stronger in Catalunya than in Germany. There were no much test-km's with the new Focus (on tarmac) and Germany is the most favourable event to Citroen (good acceleration highlighted).

On a bit more serious note, how in the h*ll there was a cow on the stage? A moose, reindeer, kangaroo or rabbit, those I understand, but a freakin' cow?

Imagine hitting a cow from that speed. Wouldn't have been pretty sight for an eye. A big minus to organizers of this rally IMO.

Cows aren`t that rare animals in farmside, looked that there was big field next to the cow, so I guess that`s where it came.

And not so seriously. Did THE cow buy a ticket and how did he/she pay it? Milk perhaps.

It was a superb rally. I saw 8 Special Stages in 3 days. I made 935 pictures and 366 of them are on my website http://www.racepics.nl

Here some of them, hope you like them:

And usually cows are kept behind the fences. One would pressume that this is the case especially during a rally!

It must have been a stubborn Scottish cow which does not listen the stewards ;)

Of course the organisers got the cow out on purpose or something. Do livestock never get out in Finland? I saw a moose running around on the road in Finland in 2005. Surely a country as perfect as Finland would make this illegal :mark:

I don't think it's impossible for a spectator to break a fence while moving on a stage, not necessarily to get a cow on the road but just by being stupid.

I would think farmers move their live stock here away from stages, i don't think i saw a cow anywhere near a stage this year.

Livestock get out in Finland too, but we are skilled enough to keep 'em behind the fences. Especially during a rally!

If you have hard time separating a moose and a cow, remember that moose is wild and goes the way it likes in the nature. Cow is a farm animal kept behind fences (exept in Germany).

So you think the farmer thought. Oh well the cow's out and the rally cars are only doing 160kph past him. Who cares? **** happens. Are you one of these people who wants an inquiry into everything when someone merely stubs their toe on a slightly high bit of kerbing?

You just have to disagree about everything, don't you?

Stubbing a toe to a kerb or hitting a cow from 160 kph are a bit hard to compare I think. I still think it should be secured that farm animals are kept behing fences when there's a rally event going on nearby.

Maybe the cow was a Loeb fan? Or just wanted her 15mins of fame?
Get over it, go visit Germany, its not India, cows dont wander on the road, somehow a cow escaped, end of story, it could just as easy happen in Finland

Exactly. Why does everything need to be a big deal these days? :mark: Stuff can happen no matter what precautions you take.

If in NORF the spectators don´t have a chance to wander around on the stage then what chance does a cow have? Kidding, just kidding of course..

In Finland you do get to wander around stages. What rally did you go to a few weeks ago? :mark:

Yes, who knows, maybe she was? Maybe you could ask it from her? You seem to know her since you are defending her so vigorously.

And yes, this could happen in Finland, but never has happened. Cow shouldn't be loose on a stage. Don't you agree?

It's an isolated incident :mark: It's not like there were cows on each stage. Just one on one stage. It's not uncommon for livestock to be on the road. Remember Carlos in NZ?

Woodeye, have you any experience with a livestock farm at all?

I doubt the farmer wanted or even knew that the cow was out of the paddock. I'm sure that the farmer would've much prefered that his cow was not exposed to rally cars, as you say, doing 160 k/h. Perhaps a gate was left open when it shouldn't've been by a spectator not used to farms. Perhaps the fence was broken, by a clumsy spectator or otherwise. Who can say? I'm wondering, though, why did the safety cars and helicopters not notice this wandering cow? It's their job to make sure that the stage is safe, not the farmers.

Personally, I don't see why farmers should be expected to go out of their way for rallies. I mean, they're already inconvenienced enough as it is with all the spectators and road closures, so why should they have to move stock away from the stage and all the rest of it? The last three rallies I've been to, I've ended up spectating from a paddock with livestock in it, and I was grateful to have the opportunity. I didn't whinge that the animals should've been someplace else.

I'm not claiming to be a cow-expert. All I know is that they really don't belong to stages and that was my original point. I don't think anyone can disagree with that?

Well duh! Just because the cow was there doesn't mean someone thought "My cow will be fine by the side of the road"

But from the picture it seems to me that the cow followed the advices from the marshalls and was watching the stage from a safe place. In many rallys I've seen lots of spectators in much worst places and they were not cows.(altough they aren't so clever)

Cow hadn't been to a rally before - spectating on a long straight, not even a yump on the road for a bit of excitement. It didn't look very impressed and I don't think it will be going to another rally again.

I saw the report on Eurosport. The cow standing before a gap in the fence. Just look at any other spectator. :) It looks funny, but a little scare.

This is more scare
