Very close times all day between Hanninen, Aava and Wilks - really good battle between three drivers who have the ability to be works drivers..... if only there were more works rides available!

Nice battle between Henning and Sordo for 6th place. Too bad Henning doesn't have the opportunity to test. I think he's been in the car just once since Acropolis. He says that day one in Finland is more of a getting the feel of the car, and then he'll try to push more the last two days.

Henning will probably catch Sordo on the next few stages.

His mother Marianne was also a pretty good rallydriver, and also very pretty, which she still is, I believe.

I didn't expect Alen to win - I thought the GpN cars were better geared for the very fast stages and the S2000 would be best on the twisty bits.

I don't know if the Punto is faster than the S2000 Corolla but David Higgins said he was giving away 9mph to the Mitsi's (118mph top speed compared to 127mph). On fast stages like 1000 Lakes I thought Alen would get his arse kicked to be honest.....

These words mean you didn't follow Rally Russia where Alen won. Our stages (yeah, I was there) were even faster than in Finland... And still only one grN car was capable of fighting with S2000 cars.

So Atkos doing well isn't he? I know some will say to just wait until he sticks it off (I hope he doesn't) but to be in the position he is, doing the times he is - he's showing some serious speed in finland.

Josti

Chris is doing a good job so far. Though I reckon Solberg will catch him sooner or later. I still doubt he will remain at Subaru for 2008. Suzuki would be a good move for him if possible.

The time Anton loses in top speed compared to GroupN cars he makes up by not braking in the corners..

Whinlatter (http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/member.php?u=79109): All S2000 cars have the same gearboxes and the same top speed app. 190 km/h on gravel (118 Mph). But top speed is not enough...

Does anyone know why Alén lost so much time on stage 7?

Not any longer:

Besides, transmission usually offers different gear and final drive ratio to cope with wildly different conditions from rally to rally.

jonkka (http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/member.php?u=67919): ok, all homologated S2000 have the same Sadev transmission (by the way Fabia is said to have X-Trac too). They have just one final drive and two different boxes homologated, one for gravel and one for tarmac (top speed ca 187 and 178 km/h) as far as I know. Not all of the cars have more final drives, for example C2 S1600 has only one final drive for all surfaces...

A small setup change for Seb´s car in the service and look, he just might start getting some time back - that´s how close it is at the moment. Unless he decides to give up the fight and settle for six points - hope not.

That FIA max speed is no longer absolute but instead it's been left at discretion of the safety observer. That's how Ouninpohja is back in it's full length (albeit with some chicanes).

Hehee, you've found a bug in my programming. Interestingly, I can't duplicate it so I cannot fix it either. Let Citroen enjoy their forecasted podium...

Edit: Spoke too soon, it is carry-over from 2006, common problem with PHP (which requires explicit variable re-inilitialization). Anyway, I already fixed it so that rallies with no results yet do not display the milestones section at all.

Oh please, tell me what happened to Alen on the penultimate stage!

Anton had two punctures today, first one in the Palsankylä 2 and a second one in Urria.

They have been working on improving safety but I've see little in print, except for stuff about the new seat.

Just seen the Eurosport coverage. It's pretty obvious 'Abu Dhabi' has to be shown in almost every frame. Wasn't keen on the report overall, but let's put that old story a side now. How are the Finnish reviews compared to ES? I know they did Killeri live, that was pretty good.

BTW, haven't seen the new Ford livery this close yet, not very nice with the chrome and all.

Same old thing from Atkinson......how does he hang on to a top seat when he is useless!!!!!!!

all WRC cars have anti-stall software. it´s not supposed to be able to happen...

so he´s useless? i think he´s going pretty well. so does his boss.

besides, while they seem to have turned the corner, Subaru hasn´t been regarded as a top seat for at least two years now...

remember, this was the rally last year where subaru sent him out of service with a new gearbox, but didn´t pressurise the oil in it...

Fantastic leg with the fight between the Ford Boys. Loeb understood that has no chance in normal conditions and seems more worried with Atkinson than with the Fords.

Atkinson is, IMO, a surprise. Latvala is fast... excessive fast indeed. :D

grugsticles
4th August 2007, 00:33
Latvalla is like the McRae of old, when speed is all that mattered and finishing didnt (as much). I like.... I like A LOT!!!

he even seems to be willing to have a real conversaion when being interviewed by the media rather than the usual 'its going well', 'im pushing hard' and 'we shall see' type answers.

As for Atkinson, atm he is doing his job. He's had a spin (correct?) so theres at least 10 seconds, and accounting for that that puts him about 35 secs off the lead (havent seen the latest time sheets yet). To me, theres nothing wrong with that, especially in the Subaru.
But... lets see what happends today/tomorrow.

So how long until team orders come into play for Ford?

Mikko will be realist, he should know now that Marcus cannot be reeled in any longer. Malcolm hardly affords to impose orders, 18.7secs between Mikko and Seb is fragile if driver is ordered to drive cautiously. Peugeot lost points in 2004 when Marcus and Harri were 1-2 and Harri was told to slow down and eventual problem saw both Burns and McRae go past him.

duff
4th August 2007, 08:19
I mean team orders to stop mikko pushing for the win. Ford and Marcus must be thinking that a win for Marcus and Loeb in 3rd would be a very good result. Any way I know there is a long way to go!

HaCo

Has anyone seen an image of Anten Alen in Finland this year? A link to it would be very nice. :)

Wonder how the Fords will be on tarmac. Everybody tought they would be slower in Finland because of lack of speed, but apparantly this is not the case. Has anyone seen Virtual Spectator with the top speeds compared to the Citroens?

4th August 2007, 08:51
So how long until team orders come into play for Ford?

Whether or not Ford will consider team orders on Saturday, to try and protect their one-two remains to be seen, but if they do keep pulling away from the rest of the pack, team boss, Malcolm Wilson may feel he doesn't have any choice.

I suspect so, I think the citroens will still dominate on tarmac. Marcus and mikko just can't match Loeb and Sordo there. And I think Ford agree. which is why Marcus needs as many points over loeb as he can get here, and every other gravel round.

I think the same. Citroën will be dominating on tarmac, so every point that Grönholm wins at Loeb on gravel is very welcome.

Promise to keep it secret because some hard-core rally fans despise me for that. There are many reasons why I always follow WRC rallies from computer (being pedantic and narrow-minded accountant, I always want to know the exact results after each stage which is impossible in forest, I also dislike drunken and dim-witted John Does who mistake Sebastien Loeb's car for Kristian Sohlberg et cetera). I have a habit of making my annual pilgrimage to rally on thursday's shakedown but I come back to follow the rally from the comforts of my living room.
