Most of the 1992 BMW Conversions are, should be 3 door not 5.

I once got carried away with a 1992 Rob Gravit Sierra cosworth....... He actually used the Saphire version of the Sierra that year, but i was so proud of my 'fake' cosworth i never realised untill someone else pointed it out to me on either this forum or a similar one. I dont remember how much i paid for it, but i dont think it was silly money, i might have got it cheap because it was indeed a fake. I still have it though, and the proper motorpro Saphire car too.
Basicly its easy to just bid on something without thinking about it too much, and along the way there will be one or two buys a collecter makes that in hindsight might not make much sense to him!
I actually like that John Cleland Chevy! if only i could bid!

Haha I bought this. I had to refund it though. When i received it the wheel was hanging off and glue all over the inside of the wheel well. The guy tried to hide it in the picture. If anyone out there is looking to sale there racing replica cavaliers let me know,.
Has ebay gone totally mad???

Ah, if its a bidding war you want then you can have all five of my Cavaliers, 1993 John Cleland, 1994 John Cleland, 1994 Jeff Allam ( a mint conversion job) and the 1994 Nigel Smith Cavalier, these are all fully boxed and are mint, cardboard sleeves too. I also have a 1993 David Leslie Cavalier, Ecurie Ecosse Cavalier, this is not in the original racing replica's box though, however i do have it mounted in a different perspex case, similar in style to the norm, no cardboard sleeve though for this one.
I would take £500 going on prices quoted above ;) :D

Hi guys,
I want to ask you about any model cars of BTCC from late 80's or early 90's. I know there a quite few, like the Volvo Estate, Ford Mondeo, Renault Megane, and so on. I want to ask if there available some Cavaliers, Carinas, and M3 E30.
Best Regards,

Hi,
Most of the cars you can get but are hard to get hold of, the Volvo estates and Ford Mondeo's would be your best bet. A lot of the early 90s stuff is very rare and doesn't come up much, even then you will need a very deep wallet. There's a few Cavalier's up at the moment, i should know as i have put one up myself ;)
As for the late 80s stuff, some of the Rouse Sierra's you can buy from shops now.
Renault Megane in the BTCC? I must say i have never seen one of those before. Only Renault cars i remember are the 19 and laguna.

Does anyone have the Ford Merkuer (sierra xr4i) and if so what do you think of the model? i dont have one, my collecting is very much on hold because my eBay account wont work for me here in Romania, but i am tempted to get a friend to buy one on my behalf and send it over.
I still keep an eye out, and a watchfull eye on the BTCC listings on eBay, the prices seemed high untill very recently, but the market seems flooded again with Onyx made models so prices are dropping a little, even the Cavaliers have popped up in numbers recently. I look forward to seeing my collection again when i come back to England for a long weekend next spring, i want to reunite myself with it, but my wife is insisting that out son can play with them as toys, this is not happening, so my collection will reside in England for now untill i can build a safe room at home here lol...

The Rouse Sierra is OK but the term 'you get what you pay for' rings true with this model and I don't think it's right either as the ICS decal on the front was surrounding by white in all the photos i've seen of the car.
When you come back you will need to show your wife that it clearly states 'not for under 14's' on the boxes of the models, so clearly NOT to be played with!
I'll have to post my last 5 models that have been added to the collection.

I am missing my collection now, cant wait untill i can reunite myself with it again. I live in Romania, my collection is back in England, i have not added a new model in over a year now, i still look on eBay and dream of the day i can again though.
JasonPotato, interesting little fact for you, (you might be aware of this anyway, apologies if you are) the 1994 Renault Lagunas of Tim Harvey and Alain Menu came with two different versions of the model by Vitesse, the two you have in your collection are pre rule changes, they also did a version of the laguna sporting front and rear spoilers.
In the 1994 btcc, Alfa came along with the 155 and won everything to begin with, Vauxhall and Renault complained about the Alfa's front and rear spoilers, the governing body changed the rules slightly and allowed the teams to add small spoilers to there cars too, Vitesse then made the two different versions of the Laguna, pre and post rule change, i have all four of the Laguna's from 1994, just to cover myself :)
Anyway, i shall go back to dreaming again now, now i have bored you all with this ;)

Somewhat off-topic, I know, but wasn't it the case that Renault intended the car to have spoilers from the start of the season, but made some mistake in the homologation process and had to begin the year without?

Good job in pointing that out but i was aware of this when i first began collecting these as they were one of the first models i got hold of. At the time i was really puzzled why there were a few variations of the same model. I had 3 of them but 2 were the same and i ended up selling one a few years back. I was intending just to have the two with spoilers but as you have probably seen i need the Tim Harvey one still. Both my versions are very poor anyway so i think it best just to replace them both when i come across them in good condition.

I dont know exactly, i just remember from my old 1994 btcc review video, where it says some teams were unhappy with the Alfa dominance and launched an appeal, it was lead by Vauxhall and Renault, Alfa were less than happy and refused to race at Brands (from what i can remember) they were then docked points, only for a counter appeal to succeed and all points re awarded, then both Renault and BMW gave there respective cars new spoilers. Not that it mattered all that much anyway as Alfa still ran away with the title anyway.

This is my first post, I have watched this thread with interest for a while but so far i haven't joined in, I am a keen BTCC model collector and would like a bit of info if possible, The Tim Harvey 94 Laguna with the rear spoiler i have never seen one, I have the 2 without spoilers and the Menu car with the spoiler, Is there a model number for the Harvey car with spoiler or is it a special Renault dealer model ?.
I am also trying to find Formule Kits, I have had a bit of sucess but the 2 lists i have contradict each other on some of the numbers, Does anyone have a list that has been confirmed please, I'd be happy with just finding decals for Formule kits if anyone knows where i could try to find any especially the Toyota Carina 93 Hoy/Bailey Omega car, I'd been happy just to see a scan of the decals just to keep me going while looking for a real copy, I know they are very hard to find but i would be very gratefull if anyone could point me in the right direction
Many thanks

Welcome. I don't have the Harvey Laguna with a spoiler so i can't help you with that aspect but i believe they have the same model numbers because my Menu Laguna (with spoiler) is L069B and my Harvey (without spoiler) is L069A so i'm guessing that the opposites would have the same model numbers. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
No idea where you can find formule kits except on ebay but i don't remember seeing a Carina E model in the last 2 years. I believe they were made but extremely hard to get of. Thanks for your reply, I think you are right with the Menu Laguna (with spoiler) being L069B and the Harvey (without spoiler) being L069A, Most of my collection is in boxes in the loft but from memory the Menu Laguna without spoiler was a Renault dealer model and came in a purple and yellow box, I assume that the Harvey model with spoiler is a dealer model if it exists, I did buy a spare Menu car and was hoping to swap the windows, doors and bonnet but none of the side decals lined up so i think i'll have to try and reproduce and replace the door numbers and drivers name somehow.
I have seen the Carina in your link for sale somewhere in kit form, I have managed to find 3 Spa 94 Carina's and i have the Hoy/Bailey 94 Carina so i have base models but i'm looking for decals to convert the models i already have, One of the lists i have mentions the 93 Omega Carina and also the Kaye/Verdon-Roe Enny Carina's but i have never seen them so wouldn't know if they exist, However going through either old Autosports or Touring Car World mags i remember seeing an advert from either Trax, Touring Car Models or Grand Prix Models that they would soon be available so they might exist or might have been scrapped the same as the 99 Vectra's.
I'm also looking for the Peugeot 405's, I believe a few companies produced a version of the 405 (Gamma, Provence Moulage and Altaya) so again the base model shouldn't be too difficult to find just the decals, I have the Flux decals but have drawn a blank on the others.

I wish i could spend that much on 1 model but sadly my pockets aren't that deep.
If i was to ever get the Carina's i would definitely buy the ME-MOD one as the Formule just don't look right to me.
No idea where to find decals i'm afraid except on some of the early 90s beamers. My Pug 405 is formule which you can see in my btcc collection and in my opinion is far superior to any other models out there. The model i'm most after are the late 90s mondeos so i can try and complete my 1998 grid but i'm not sure if anyone has them.
I am in the process of converting 3 models but just waiting for the weather to get a little warmer so i can start spraying them, trying to get a few of the Beamers done; BBR 1995 brabham 318is, Baymo 1995 Soper world cup 318is and a Provence moulage 1994 Xedos Neal or Leslie, not decided yet ;)

Just had a look through my decals and i have 2 sets of Brabham/Cecotto 1995 BMW 318is. Will ebay the second set once i have made the model so if i make a mistake it wouldn't be a problem.

What your two conversions with the wrong decals used???
JasonPotato
8th March 2012, 19:45
Wrong decals??? Maybe you need to compare them to the real thing, only thing wrong is the 'racing with catalysts' window sticker on Bintcliffe's car.
The race number decals used are the wrong ones! There were two versions in the kit the original with the thick red outline AND the proper ones with the correct thin red outline... Check them if you want!

lol dont argue with PDS about decals being wrong/right. he has the keenest eye for detail I know of! He is right about the race number plates being wrong, there are indeed both sets on the BBR decal sheets.
Did you scratch off the original Window names on the Biela model? Might just be the light in the picture but the window looks scratched under the name. Might be interested in the model if its not scratched

argue? hmmm if you say so. Friendly banter i would call it. I never said he was wrong plus i wasn't the one who made them, that would be someone on this forum ;) . Yes they are faint scratch marks.

Hi PDS,
From the email I received, it seems they are doing professional conversions of models already available from the top model manufacturers.

I personally hope for a range of beemers

Out of my price range. The plato model is the only one worth it's price tag as the donor car isn't cheap nor are the decals. £75 for a 2010 Gio car? You can pick up a donor car for less than £5 and a can of black gloss will set you back a few quid. so the decals and time are worth £65! Same with the 2008 Turner car really.
The other cars they have lined up on the other hand £75 is quite high but reasonable.
Alfa Fan
5th September 2012, 12:22
I think you underestimate the effort that goes into them. The Turner one is perhaps the worst deal as it's literally just changing a number and name, £50 for a £25-30 base model.
The 888 Vectra costs the most compared to its base price because of the amount of changes in comparison to the original Oxford diecast. I paid PDS to do one for me for a not dissimilar amount, and felt what I received in return was worth it!
JasonPotato
5th September 2012, 12:47
You can get a 2008 Plato base car for around £12-15!
Im sure the quality is very good but i would rather do the Gio 2010 myself at that price, like i said you could get the car and spray it for under a tenner and the decals wouldn't set you back £65 plus the £5 postage they charge. Not knocking there work at all but the price for that model should be lower in my own opinion.

I suggest you read my post again. I'm not sure what price you could get the decals for but it would be less than £65! Even if you couldn't get it up to the same standard as them you would be getting it for under half the price. Assuming the decals cost around £20.

If you really feel you are being ripped off, why not make one yourself?
I just find it pleasing that someone has actually made these models available irrespective of the price.
As I said, I have bought one, and with the growing price of models (I see the 2012 DTM BMW's from minichamps are listed at £59.99) I am more than happy with what I got for my money.

I agree with Peter that I think all the models are reasonably priced, initial thought is wow that price is big but actually it's not.
Matt, just think how much work you have put in making your recent models, manhours alone would be a high cost, yes the base model could be cheap but stripping is pain then the re building and printing decals with white or shiny silver as in the Uniq decals on the Gio car certainly in cheap.
I can't wait for my Plato car and wish I had a bit more money to order a couple more cars.
I wish people wouldn't put down this fledgling company who is actually making the cars we really WANT! As Peter has stated new 'off the shelf' models are being released at £50+ and some of these models are even correct, where as these cars are going to be correct plus being high quality and build with passion (after speaking to them) and a small premium to these off the shelf models. These people also need to make a profit so they can bring us other models we want.
Hats off to them in my option. Also just a side note, I asked for a company to quote on making some decals for me and they came back quoting £400 for the artwork and just 10 decal sheets (so that £40 per decal sheet)

6th September 2012, 13:50
I put in a lot of man hours yes but model making is a hobby so i really don't mind how long it takes. I would rather do the Gio 2010 and Turner cars myself as i have previously explained why, these were the only 2 i thought overpriced.

I suppose it's just like that rally model site that does the conversions? As long as the bodyshape is licenced, I doubt anyone would be bothered with them using their company logos for what is free advertising, as it's good quality by the looks of it.
I can understand why it's priced like it is. I've got a custom made 2010 WTCC eBay BMW and it's stunning. I'd hate to think how much work has gone into it. It says Decal Dynamics on the back of the plinth, anything to do with these people?
I'm very interested in the Cavalier models that are due. I presume they'd be conversions of the forthcoming Corgi car.

BTCC Diecast Models Homepage (http://www.btccdiecastmodels.com)
It is still a work in progress, models are being added all the time. The website is for reference purposes only and cars will only be added when I have the time to add them. To see how it will look when finished, have a look at 1998 season.
Please join the forum and contribute to help build knowledge on how models are made etc. Lots of other things to discuss too!

Got my Cruze today, looks superb! Number 8 of 25, so if they are selling sequentially, a third of the run gone already. Turner SEAT came as well, looks very smart, but given the limited changes from the existing one, to be expected. Really looking forward to whatever they release next!

Not sure how yours can be number 8 when mine is!

Actually, it's 6 on a closer inspection. The font they use makes it look like an 8. Only if you look very, very closely can you tell the difference.

I have finally been motivated to complete some more conversions.
The next one I am going to attempt is the 1991 Tim Harvey Labatts BMW E30.
Does anyone know what the correct paint is to use for the car, and what wheels are best for it?
I am using an IXO Racing E30 for the conversion which has the BBS Wire Wheels currently.

lol Glad theres not 2 8s ;)
I may have found some alloys for that 1991 car, 4 euros for all 4 wheels with tyres but would need to be sprayed gold.

Honestly I couldn't care less about limited editions or whatever. I'm not looking to ever sell them, so re-sale values are irrelevant.

I don't care about the numbers either but i do care about whether they are limited edition. Much nicer to have a really rare model compared to an ONYX model from a run of 2500 for example.

Who makes them? You have to watch some wheel manufacturers, you dont get 4 wheels the same size in some sets?

Starter 43 they are called. I thought they were very cheap so instead went for some more expensive but more accurate wheels for my 1992 BMW's. £12 a set! Hopefully they will be well worth it.

Were did you find these STARTER43 wheels can I ask?

Pretty nice line-up. Got to wonder about the legalities of this though? Hate to put a downer on it, but I just hope its all legit for their sake!
Are you meaning royalties to teams?
I know what you mean as some will want a run of models from themselves for sponsors etc and a bit of money.
Regarding code 3 model prices I am a Rally Model builder and those prices quoted are quite reasonable.
Its not just a case of respraying and re decal.
Sometimes if you can buy a batch of base models for a good price then that is fine but there is the time taken to strip and hope you dont crack windows. buying what i get the Styprit wood and varnish remover to take the car back to metal
The cost of paint as rattle cans if you use them or airbrush, then if you need a special colour mixed thats not cheap.
cost of decals to have done with all the artwork and produced and how many sets you need. then depending on what detail you want to put in the model for the price you are going to charge is another thing.
I also have parts cast now in white metal such as dashboards to rhd which i make the master and get them cast and to pay for the moulds.
In the rally model world some people want to pay diecast prices for a converted to code 3 car. but if you are a true collector and you want the car you will get it unless you can't afford it but you will know yourself you won't moan about the price becaus thats what it is.
This isn't aimed at anyone on here its just what happens elsewhere.
I do have spares like seats, and belt decals and wheels fire extinguishers etc etc

If you were the seller then I'm sorry you free agrieved but the first rule of ebay is NEVER sell when someone makes an offer as normally it's worth at lot more. If originally you/the seller was happy with the price then there shouldn't be any come back as it was a price that was deemed fair at the time.
And why shouldn't someone try and make a profit to help fund their passion/collection etc in a world where everything costs more. Your comments is like saying 'don't buy from a supermarket as they buy the things cheaper and sell them for more'!!

Pointless comment by him to be honest seen as they were already sold. Doesn't matter if I paid £1 or £100, I can do what I like with them.
Figured this is the best place to try and advertise "btcc models". Granted not ideal to advertise loads but the odd 1 or 2, I see no problem.
Personally would like to see some more collections or new models being posted, get this thread back on track as its been kind of dead.

Pretty sure it is the DS one. Trax can be pretty imaginative when it comes to RRPs... I imagine they've simply struck up a deal with DS to market their product (taking a cut in the process).

I thought since there has been no activity in this section for a while I would put my wish list of BTCC models that I would like in my collection
and I would be interested in what models everybody else would like also. 1975 Triumph Dolomite Andy Rouse 1980 Mazda RX7 Win Percy 1982 Toyota Corolla Win Percy 1986 Toyota Corolla GT Chris Hodgetts 1987 Toyota Corolla GT Chris Hodgetts 1998 Ford Mondeo Nigel Mansell 2003 Vauxhall Astra Yvan Muller 2004 Vauxhall Astra James Thompson 2011 Honda Civic Matt Neal 2012 Honda Civic Gordon Shedden and any of the Seat's from the BTCC Legends race at Donington Park. I know there is a Vanguards model of the Dolomite but it's more like a road car than a race car.

I'm a massive fan of the BTCC. I have converted all my old VHS to DVD, seasons from the 80's and 90's!
I only have few cars in my 1:43 collection,
1990 Triplex Rover SD (J.Allam)
1991 Ford Sapphire (R.Gravett)
1997 Volvo (R.Rydell)
I was wondering if anyone on here still creates decals?
And if anyone is selling their models?
