Well there is a trick with burning some fuel in it also, but I haven't seen anyone use it.

They use tyre inflation canisters if they need to raise pressures between stages.

I doubt these generate enough pressure to pop the tyre back onto the rim.

Actually it feels like usually half the media pictures of any rally come from the shakedown. They are the pictures that are ready to use when the rally starts on Friday. Also, the shakedown is short so you get usually all the big photographers in the same place, so everyone is selling a different angle of the same photo.
