ooouu poor split for Meeke

EstWRC
28th April 2019, 16:25
and also Mäkinen + Latvala very clever, taking points away. however, finishing 5th or 6th, there is no difference in manu points, coz Sordo doesn't count anyway

well Sordo was nowhere the first two stages today and now suddenly this pace just one car between him and Tänak.

Any of the top teams would probably be pushing for penalties in the same position. After all Neuville also mentioned he would have wanted Tanak to be penalized if he was still in the running by the end of the day.

Meeke had a break failure, had a double puncture (with one spare), lost third gear, got a ten second penalty, had a steering problem, had a third puncture, came 4th, and beat his teammate Latvala who was having his best rally in a while. The thing I want most from Meeke this year is for him to keep his job, and so far so good. I think he was actually quite lucky this rally, because the problems mostly happened near the end of stages and the end of loops; and on another day a less sensible official could have given a 30 second penalty.

Mikkelsen: well done, deserved a clean run and did well when he got it.

Hyundai: good tactics, good luck, great result, congratulations.

They won manu last year... The biggest disgrace should be Citroen with a half ass car and two car team... At least TGR is bringing 3 sometimes 4 cars at events.

In terms of performace Toyota was seemingly fastestest on all first runs of stages and Citroen (Ogier) slowest. In second runs things seemed to turn around with Ogier and Hyundais faster.

Ogier shows why he is multiple champ, will do anything to win and can push over the top when it matters.

On a side note it almost looks like Mikkelsen is forbidden to push on PS, certainly in Sweden he was and here he probably was advised to keep it steady. From team view it certainly makes sense, more than Meeke and Latvala taking points off Tanak.

Citroen don't have money. They are poor, since Abu Dhabi pull the plug. Oh, right. They were poor back then too, when they were around. And now with Ogier who wants salary they don't have it even for low class entry and needs Mads to support them aswell.

Interesting rally till the last stage, despite some organisational issues.

Toyotas seem to have reliability issues, can't deny it at this point, but maybe it comes as a disadvantage of squeezing out every bit of performance, because it really looks like it is the best performing car.

Sad for Tannak, this is getting annoying.

Really glad that Meek is doing a good job, I imagine he must think the previous year was really hell according to now. I'm glad he got the opportunity to show that he has great speed.

Great job by Ogier on PS. Also it seemed that after he got his power steering back and was fighting his lost time back he managed to squeeze more out of that Citroen, which is a weird car.

Also some really scary crashes in this rally...

For tech guys, at 10:40 on Saturday highlights Evans is using Inmarsat IsatPhone 2 (https://www.inmarsat.com/isatphone/) to call the team after crashing.

Didn't look like Tanak had any satphone with him?

Apparently Ford does not have radios this year. Toyota does.

I guess it's to save money, as the radios run through the plane.

mknight
28th April 2019, 21:20
Well satphones work even when the plane(relay) is not up and also when the car does not have power. So at this point MSport approach was better, as Tanak seemingly wasn't able to talk with the team after the crash. EDIT: car stopped.

I guess mostly they just use cellphones for this, but not much coverage up the hill in argentina.

Latvala had a puncture and the red flag incident on Friday. After that his road position was not optimal for Saturday and Sunday but he made some decent stage times.

Latvala had a puncture and the red flag incident on Friday. After that his road position was not optimal for Saturday and Sunday but he made some decent stage times. His power stage time was really good and really surprising too. Where I stood he chucked the car in very sideways, very spectacularly, and I was sure he'd lose some time. One of his best stages in a while. He's most definitely the crowd favorite! :D

Here's Tanak's run through my spot; the mountain in front of us allowed us to follow the cars all the way up to El Cķndor, and as they disappeared the next car was already arriving.

I watched the 1 hour review as there sometimes are things not shown in alllive.
The rough number of stage end and service park interviews, listed by standings at finish:
(all numbers are approximate)

Neuville: 1 (after finish)
Mikkelsen: 0
Ogier: 6-7
Meeke: 8+
Latvala: ~2
Sordo: 0
Suninen: 1
Tanak: 2 (+ a section about his movie)

Evans: 0
Lappi: 2
