As it stands now hyundai grab the most of it. 3rd, 4th and 6th. not bad for no speed
Mikkelsen will drop to Lappi yes, but still Hyundai will get most manu points while being the clearly slowest car. EDIT: Actually Ford still gets more points (25+10 =35 vs 15+12=27)
In other news this is first stage of the rally where Meeke is ahead of Loeb.

Yesterday after one stage Kopecký said something like: "That was good, sir doctor, but next time it shall be faster" :D
That's because Pavel Dresler is now an university teacher with a doctor of science title. He teaches some race car design stuff.
Until they saw Veiby's time :)
That's not important for them now. He is far behind.

So in the end there are a few overall duels for PS apart from the stage points:
Sordo vs Evans

Kopecky vs Meeke
Veiby vs Andolfi

Neuville did the same error and so lucky to not puncture. If he gets 3rd o/a it will be a huge result for him.

I'm quite sure that Kopecký doesn't care about Meeke. He won't risk his WRC2 victory for fighting with WRC guys for an extra point in overall standings. But it will be tight anyway for sure.

The car must be competetive on different surfaces to have a chance at championship. I'm talking about Mikkelsen and drivers championship.
He said something about homework ?

Well, Neuville won this event last year with no complaining. Citroen was also heading that way and has shown good pace this weekend. Toyota was also struggiling last year with both drivers occasionally showing good stage times, one of them continued like that this weekend, two were much faster. Ogier is heading for a solid victory whereas Evans on one of his good events is fighting with Mikkelsen. The cars are not to blame imho.

I disagree. The list of surfaces and conditions where Hyundai looses time to Ford and Toyota is getting longer. (using Neuville and Sordo as references)
From 2017:
- smooth tarmac
- Finland
This year added:
- bumpy and dirty tarmac (ref. Novella stage 2017 vs 2018)
- faster gravel stages (Mexico)
Ford was by far more universal from before and now Toyota seems to be coming up.
Mirek
8th April 2018, 10:09
The simple fact is that it's fifth Hyundai season and they haven't won any championship. The car is of course a part of the whole picture and therefore there is for sure quite a lot to improve about it as well.

They all have room to develop and they keep doing that, but still, what are the main reasons for not winning a championship today, leaving the VW era behind?
Something to do with this i believe (just an example, could put every car there) and slow pace from the pilot: https://www.motorsport.com/wrc/photo/main-gallery/dani-sordo-marc-marti-hyundai-i20-wrc-hyundai-motorsport-crash-14264998/?sz=9&t=crash&s=-6&oft=48&id=14264998&i=15
But i do agree, that agile cars are a problem in some cases.
PS order:
1. Andolfi
2. Bonato
3. Kopecky
4. Loeb
5. Meeke
6. Lappi
7. Mikkelsen

Enjoy a guide to today's Power Stage: Pénitencier de Coti-Chiavari, 16.25km. Sunday’s live TV Power Stage is new for 2018. It starts near Portigliolio and climbs on a wide, fast road to a spectacular hairpin at Acqua-Doria. Narrower and bumpier lanes lead through Coti-Chiavari, before a change of direction towards the sea on a twisty downhill section. Drivers negotiate five hairpins before finishing near the prison in Chiavari forest.

Engine failure is hardly his own mistake. However he should be rather happy with his luck on SS11, a luck Lappi didn't had, besides he wouldn't make more on PS with the car performance on this rally.

And a hit big enough to damage suspension. I would say he was lucky it was only puncture and not an end of the rally.

boooville is getting annoying these days. I was hoping he could pull a win, but his sore losing attitude has lost me as a fan. He needs to man up. Maybe someone from Hyundai should slap him around and tell him to be a bit more grateful and professional.
I do not see Nandan with a pouty upper lip when Nueville crashes. Should the team start kicking tires and punching windows when Nueville wrecks his car?? What a douchebag!

And there they go their yearly budget out of the window. So no testing for Argentina.

yep.. this is funny. Citroen Racing make homologation but couldn't comply with it on rally.
Interesting that pipes don't shown at picture for C3WRC too?!

I've been back from the rally 24 hours now. Never been to Corsica before and on the whole it was really enjoyable. Incredible roads and a beautiful island. Pretty chilled out from a spectating point of view. Only on the final day did the police really piss me off, but that couldn't spoil a great trip - my 30th WRC event. Not super easy to get to but well worth it - even if this season it didn't end up being the most exciting/competitive rally.

Well, that's obvious, but same people make same mistakes.
In C3WRC homologation same people could don't include pipes into picture and weigh steering without it.

I know most of the article has nothing to do with Corsica, but this bit caught my eyes:
'Todt’s presence in Corsica might have been interpreted by some as a message to the promoter – with France’s WRC counter understood to be under pressure due to the comparatively small number of spectators and the expense and logistics involved with getting to the island.'
“I love Corsica and I think it’s a very good venue,” said Todt. “When you see the roads, they are unique. I went by helicopter in SS6 and I saw a lot of spectators with a great improvement on safety for the spectators, they are doing a great job. I think Corsica is the perfect venue to be hosted by the World Rally Championship.”
Does anyone know if Corsica is in risk of losing it's WRC status? or under pressure as it says in the article?

First Corsica for me. It was a great rally, logistically good, two stages able to access a day including afternoon service and evening regroup and service.
Only gripe was that I asked colleagues which they prefer, a Rally with 4 stages in the morning loop and then 4-5 in the afternoon or a rally with 2, service then 2 again. Responses were Variety in the larger option of stages before a service. Rather then know what you have in two stages and small access to get into them, variety is better with 4-5 stage options to go to.
Service park was great, scenery was too.
I can understand the island now, the driving was mega with liaisons. Though I did enjoy Corsica what would another French rally option be? I might head back in 2019, but the problem might be I would have to go!
On another note. I did say to people this rally was fast, and they replied saying it is one of the slowest rallies in the calendar! Confused. Tarmac feels fast when they're driving towards me, past me and when I'm leaving the stage, walking on the stage!

Interesting. I'm from an asphalt country and I have the exact opposite feeling. Gravel gives me mostly more perception of speed due to the cars sliding on the loose surface. On asphalt i's much harder to find places where it looks fast and not boring like hell. My two cents.

This is th reason why I never spectate asphalt rallies. They are very boring. My wife who is not into cars went to Germany with me and she asked me why they weren’t driving fast?? I had to explain to her that they were going fast but look slow since they’re not sliding around.. she gave me a dumb look

My wife saw her first tarmac rally last year in Catalunya and enjoyed it a lot. Ofc the perfect weather and landscape were to blame for this :P
But in general fast gravel rallies offer the most wow effect for spectators.

Yes but in the other hand, sometimes cars are not so fast on tough gravel rallies (rainy Acropolis uphill special stages come to my mind).
I enjoyed Deutschland Rallye 2017 and I never thought cars were not going fast, quite the opposite.

Well... it's not boring if You know where to spectate. It just requires a lot more preparation for the spectators who wants to see something. Otherwise crazy fast events like Barum or Ypres are very spectacular despite being asphalt. On gravel You just come to a random corner and it's usually somewhat ok. This approach simply doesn't work with asphalt events.

Couldn't agree more. I am from a gravel country and I have only two tarmac rallies in my bag - Germany WRC 2015 and Barum 2017. After last one I came to conclusion that you can not use your gravel experience in tarmac rallies spectating at all. Cars behave and tires works totally different and what wow's you in gravel on tarmac it seems like driving on rails. It's all about experience to find enjoyable spots in tarmac rallies. Same applies to gravel rallies. When I in 2007 was in Finland for a first time, every Ouninpohja bend seemed to me like best spot ever. With my nowadays experience I need to work hard to find something there for my taste :)

Also a problem with tarmac rallies vs gravel rallies, is that you need good drivers to have spectacular passes on tarmac. On gravel, even slow(er) drivers are often spectacular.
Hartusvuori
16th April 2018, 12:20
Tarmac is for more experienced taste. It's clear you need to look with "different eyes" between gravel and tarmac. I like to expect the unexpected on tarmac events, the compression on bad tarmac, compressions on high speed narrow tarmac, overninght rain and dirty cuts, etc. If you find a good place on tarmac (=runki), it's more satisfying than on gravel. But I agree that slow and on rails like tarmac is boring, but so is gravel or snow. When cars are driven to their max, it doesn't matter what's the surface.
