Also, I think it's a policy that only WRC official can publish footage from the WRC rallies, so if for instance Rovanperä has an onboard camera, he cannot publish the footage on his youtube channel.
IMHO he can but he has to pay for it.

I don't think many of the R5 cars are carrying onboard cameras. Equally I wonder from a production standpoint if they need to leave one stage so that people or equipment (helis etc) can head to the next test.
But still, stage 10 with roadside cameras, they could easily show many more cars, instead of having a 2hr studio-broadcast, with heli and onboard of Ogier on a road section.
Show 15-25 more cars, and then cut to studio, they would still have much time for all sorts of interviews, analyzing etc.

Meeke at this point in my opinion just needs to finish the rally, gain the valuable date from the C3 to the team. No point in taking any risks, if I recall correctly by this time last year he was out so, really he just needs to get to the finish line and even if he scores 4 points from finishing 8th it's still better than crashing and should be a better start to the year. Also, same for Breen, first time for him here with the C3, take it steady.

You dont think seeing the leader and correct splits is pretty important ?
I think the splits is a separate issue most likely. Duff splits all rally. You always have bad splits every event too so it's not a new 'All Live' issue.
The coverage is following the live stage format for the last few years where you never see the leader either. I admit it is maybe not ideal to see them following the power/TV stage concept so closely. But it creates a bit of structure for the editors I guess.

Great rally. Toyota boys in good position especially if they can hold current positions before going into Sweden where they should do well.
Tanak most impressive for me. Citroen and Hyundais also good, but I think a bit of bad luck and minor issues for these teams. As always, Monte leaves us scratching our heads.
Ogier knows this rally well. My contact at Toyota said they are all ecstatic about the team. Tommi told everyone it would be nearly impossible to beat Ogier in Monte, but he did not think Tanak would be so close. JML has changed a few setting which better suite him and he is now putting down good times. Lappi has surprised everyone. Apparently he did an extensive tarmac school in Italy before this rally along with a lot of carting to bring up his Tarmac skills.

27th January 2018, 15:53
Meeke as said earlier should make do with what he's got, I mean, I think he knows by now the car is still nowhere near it's competitors pace once it's not a proper dry road, so still a lot of work to be done on the C3. Also too me he seems like a broken man during the interviews, or a man that knows that it's Citroën's last season in the WRC.... As for Neuville, as N.O.T said before me, will be hard for Neuville to get the title this year. I do expect that Mikkelsen might be able to challenge if he continues to show the pace he showed end of last year and finishes rallies with out the issues. Bravo for Tanak and EP, don't think a lot of people expected that kind of pace from them right from the off.

I think its pretty tough to judge too much by Monte Carlo, there is just too much random circumstance.
Anyone could have been off and out on the first night on that ice, really just good fortune who got away with the least time loss.
Its clear the Ford is still pretty benign, so too the Hyundai and Toyota. The Citroen still looks a right handful when the traction is low. So far Meeke has been smart and we didn't say that much last year.

Belts break either from wear... which isn't the case in the WRC because I bet they swap them every event... or misalignment between the pulleys which increase the wear exponentially.
I don't know how things are mounted in the hyundai and what adjustment they have so don't know the root cause if it was indeed the belt.
They weigh nothing so I'm surprised they don't have a spare in the car.

I small part of it broke and winded itself behind the alternator pulley and that can be really hard to get out.
A small rock could have been jammed in the groves of a wheel, seen that before and if you're really unlucky the belt will find it's way into the cambelt and break the engine.
