It's time to create a topic about the biggest rally in Belgium.
McCormack just entered the rally, according to the organization Facebook page.
I hope we can expect many other top drivers to compete with the Belgian drivers.
If anyone comes over and has a question about the rally, feel free to send me a pm!

Really looking forward to this one this year - it's the week after Le Mans so I'm planning on being around from the Wednesday and will stay until the end of Saturday (for the first time). I hope the entry list is as solid as recent editions have been and all the top locals get a drive.

Maybe someone can add more names? How about Kajto, Lukyanuk, Consani, Tlustak, Tarabus, Koltun, Kasperczyk, Chuchala etc?
Tarabus will come, I think also Tlusťák.
What about Xavier Bouche with a Fabia R5? He was pretty quick last weekend in Belgium.
Also Duval in the DS3?
Duval used car of A. Fumal, so I don't think he will do Ypers as probably Fumal himself will drive. Bouche is fast, but I think he mostly does events in his part of Belgium - Spa, Wallonie, Condroz plus I heard also not a lot of money for more rallies.
Chuchala has no Ypres in his plans from what I know.
Maybe De Jong will rebuild his Citroen and come to Ypres? After crash in Spa he told for sure no TAC and Wallonie and then he would like to come back

Xavier Bouche is indeed only driving in the French part of Belgium the last couple of years, except one rally in the German part in 2014 in the East Belgian Rally. His last rally in Flanders was in 2007, so don't expect him in Ypres.
Bob de Jong won't come to Ypres. Maybe his car is rebuild than, but Ypres is too expensive after his crash in Spa. His next rally in the Belgian championship is the Omloop van Vlaanderen.
About Duval: There is almost no chance to see him in Ypres this year and probably also not in the next years. Fumal is indeed driving that DS3 R5 as he bought the car in the begin of this year including the 2016 update.
Kajto no
Chualala no
Consani probally no,budget reasons after his crash

As Ypres clashes with BRC Scotland, the majority of British drivers and Ahlin etc will be in Braveheart country.
Botka had a fallout with the organizers/federation not long ago, and said that he will start in every ERC round from now on instead of splitting the season in ERC/Hungary. So I guess this means he can be expected to turn up in Ypres as well. Also, I think Érdi might come too, but I'm not sure about that.

I'm hoping for a Fiesta Evo or Fabia for him, then he certainly has a good chance. I'm afraid that winning in a PSA R5 car is nearly impossible on the stages around Ypres...
Specifically why?
I would like to see Bryan do well too, but I feel he has not quite been the driver he used to be the last couple of years.
tommeke_B
29th May 2016, 11:19
Ypres consists of many junctions followed by long straights and extremely fast sections. I think the PSA R5's don't really have a perfect gearbox for it... The long one is too long, the short one lacks top speed which you need on some parts of the stages. Also in the exit of the junctions and slow corners I believe the Fabia and Fiesta have some advantage. Last year Freddy was nowhere with the Fabia R5 (especially in terms of set-up, the car wasn't really as he liked yet, last year), and still he won. This year he knows the car better and has a (nearly) perfect set-up, and the stages remain more or less the same.
What about the changes to the EVO PSA cars though? I thought they promised much stronger engine?

As RS already said, Bouffier probably isn´t as fast now as he was even some few years ago. And not even then he could beat Loix at Ypres.

Rumours in Rally de Portugal that is not a big advantage. Even EVO kit is bad.
PSA cars have strong engines.
Top power, yes? But torque I thought was poor compared to the Fiesta Evo and Fabia?
Mirek
29th May 2016, 22:18
Yes, there is less torque but on the other hand the peak power is a lot higher than for example in Fiesta. In my opinion the far biggest problem of those cars is that they are overall difficult to work with and to drive. As a result they suffer with a lot of reliability issues and often the teams don't even use the best engine maps because of pop-off issues, overheating etc.
You can see that properly serviced PSA cars can win on the events where torque is very important. See Andreucci in Italy for example.

Alexey Lukyanuk got support and the possibility to enter fifth ERC event – Kenotec Ypres Rally 2016
Russian pilot now stands second in the overall list of European Rally Championship, reducing the gap to the leader last week to 15 points. Though there were no further plans for the season as the budget for initially planned three events eventually was over.
Regretfully RPM team and Elementy.ru project cannot further support 100% of the events.
Alexey Lukyanuk: “I do not have enough words to explain how grateful I am to Russian Performance Motorsport team, Elementy.ru project and Boris Zimin for our successful cooperation, starting 2014. It is because of their support we won Estonian Championship 2014 and got a chance to continue our program in ERC. “Bronze” in the debut season was gained not only by the crew. I hope it is just a pause in our relations and we will have a lot of events ahead!”
Next event for Alexey Lukyanuk and Alexey Arnautov in Belgium will be supported by unnamed businessman. “I just want to help guys in such a situation, I don’t need to advertise myself or company”, explained he.
So, Ford Fiesta R5 will be on the track in the same recognizable livery already in two weeks.

Hollebeke has a lot of good spots. One of the most challeging stages in Belgium. With this years timing you can do at least 4 stages on saterday.
Normal we will do Hollebeke - Watou or Westouter - Hollebeke - Reninge or Watou. I think its also possible to go from Reninge to Westouter.

The DS3 and 208 are technically near identical cars. The main difference is that DS3 has shorter wheelbase which is given by the stock bodyshell. I guess the main difference is probably in the support services etc. Maybe Br21 can tell us more.

Except bodyshell and body panels, etc. only mechanical difference is propshaft, which is shorter in Citroen as it has shorter wheelbase. Rest is the same. Few months ago Peugeot Sport and Citroen Racing merged together, so support team is identical now, they also merged stock, so now there is only one shop for all parts.

I have just counted the number of Peugeots 208 T16 at the finish line of each round of ERC 2016. It doesn't look good:
round 1 Canarias - 1 Pug at the finish line (Consani)
round 2 Ireland - 0 Pugs at the finish line
round 3 Acropolis - 0 Pugs at the finish line
round 4 Azores - 0 Pugs at the finish line

To be fair, I will little bit update your statistics:
round 1 Canarias - 1 Pug at the finish line (Consani), 1 retired (Costenaro, usual problem with alternator)
round 2 Ireland - 0 Pugs at the finish line, 1 retired (Thorburn, technical problem with transmission)
round 3 Acropolis - 0 Pugs at the finish line, 1 retired (Della Casa, broken radiator after hitting stone)
round 4 Azores - 0 Pugs at the finish line, 1 retired (Costenaro, usual problem with alternator)
Most of that retired cars is still the same car from Delta Rally...

It is really interesting that we hear lot of complains against pop-off from Citroen and Peugeot drivers. But also lot of other teams and cars had problems with pop-offs. For example Orsak had problems with it on Azores for whole weekend. Lukyanuk had problems with pop-off in Acropolis...

I'm not so sure... If you check ewrc they don't seem to have much more problems than the Skoda and the Fiesta.
There is for instance one in sweden that usually runs reliably. Uccis has almost never had a problem etc etc.

Am I being mean? In the last 3 seasons Peugeot 208 R5 managed to win just 4 ERC rounds out ouf 25. And the last win was over 1 year ago when Craig Breen was fastest in the 2015 Azores Rally.
Let's take a quick look at the statistics - number of wins:
ERC 2016
-----------
Ford Fiesta R5 - 2 wins
Skoda Fabia R5 - 1 win
Citroen DS3 R5 - 1 win
Peugeot 208 R5 - 0 wins
ERC 2015
-----------
Ford Fiesta R5 - 4 wins
Peugeot 208 R5 - 3 wins
Skoda Fabia R5 - 2 wins
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X - 1 win
ERC 2014
-----------
Ford Fiesta RRC - 4 wins
Škoda Fabia S2000 - 4 wins
Ford Fiesta R5 - 1 win
Peugeot 208 R5 - 1 win
Mini John Cooper Works S2000 - 1 win

If 15 fastest R5 competitors retire, yes... Big respect for Patrick Snijers, for what he has proved during his long career. Fact is that now he is becoming an older driver, he has no rhythm, did only one rally so far this year. Also, his driving style isn't really adapted to R5 cars, we've seen it in Sezoens Rally (an event that probably suits him more than Ypres). Maybe the 208 R5 accepts his brutal driving more than the Fiesta R5, let's hope... :)

In spanish magazine, Vallejo said that Evo kit had performance problem.

Half of that seems more likely. Bonato and Dilley were driving Evo DS3s this weekend, and Bonato didn't like the new power steering, saying that it gives no info about the grip conditions. That's quite sad since the whole concept of the new PAS was to enhance this compared to the old one... (and to make room for the new radiator and intercooler)

Yeah, hot weather until Thursday, nearly +28 degrees, thudnerstroms expected both on Wednesday and on Thursday afternoon, between 16 and 20 is most likely time. then some light showers might appear on Friday morning (not so likely) and deperature drops (from Friday) to around +18..+22 degrees during the days and +12..+15 during the nights. But it should be sunny and not so windy :)

It’s more than sad, it’s a mess! Finally the cooling issues were fixed and some extra hp found but now there’s a problem with the electrical power steering from the evo kit...it's the perfect way to revamp their R5 sales. Let's hope Lefebvre will be inspired!
