I didn't know it too. But unfortunately the co-driver was injured quite seriously - he suffered vertebral compression fracture. So Lukyanuk lost not only money and points, but also his co-driver.

In the Rally Masters Show in Moscow Lukyanuk will drive with Julia Burykina, Alex Arnautov's wife. In Acropolis Rally he will be co-driven by Roman Kapustin. But is Roman Kapustin brave enough to sit in the same car with Lukyanuk? ;)

Pieniazek and Kasperczyk have just completed gravel tests in Mazury lake district. Pieniazek was testing Opel Adam R2 before ERC Acropolis Rally and ‪Citroen‬ DS3 R3T before WRC Rally de Portugal. Kasperczyk was driving Ford Fiesta R5 preparing for Acropolis Rally.

Especially beginning of the test was really boring. Botka arrived later due to problems with service truck and Scattolon started in the afternoon. So first few hours were with only few runs and big gaps. I went through the stage and back few times, so I think this photo was taken during my return back (this jump was close to start).

This week’s SEAJETS Acropolis Rally, round three of the FIA European Rally Championship, will be broadcast on terrestrial television and radio by Star Central Greece.

Star Central Greece will be the television and radio broadcaster of the 2016 Acropolis Rally and is based in the city of Lamia, which is this year hosting the legendary event for the first time since 2005.

Both the TV channel and Star FM 97.1 will have live coverage of the ceremonial start on Friday 6 May, taking place at the Leonidas monument in Thermopyles. Later that evening, there will be nearly two hours of live televised news and discussion from the Star Central Greece studio.

During the rally on Saturday and Sunday, there will be live radio broadcasts from the service park, while on TV there will be highlights of the action on and live coverage from the finish on Sunday. Throughout the week, Acropolis Rally news bulletins are being broadcast every two hours on both TV and radio.

In addition to the TV and radio offerings, the websites www.tvstar.gr and www.starsports.gr will have news, photos and videos from the rally.

Alexey, it’s the first time we’ve seen you since your win in the Canaries, you missed the Circuit of Ireland. Is everything back up to speed, your confidence is back after that crash?

AL:
My confidence is good. This crash in Ireland actually was very, very, I must say, unforced error. It was more about circumstances and OK, I don’t accept my fault in this situation. Ten more centimetres of Tarmac and it was OK, but it was too narrow and in the end it’s like this. This is OK on the gravel, it’s all new as we haven’t been on gravel for half a year. We have more experience with the R5 car on Tarmac but with gravel we don’t have a lot of experience. Of course it’s my favourite surface but at the moment I feel Tarmac better than gravel.

Q:
You’ve just been showing me your last two corners on the Qualifying Stage, very out of shape. For Alexey Lukyanuk that’s probably quite normal but are you happy with the setup?

AL:
Yes, I think we’ll change the setup because actually I did some steps before the last run. In some places it was better but in the end it was really tricky and I was thinking that I was about to lose control of the car and go into the bushes, but finally I managed to save it. Of course we lost some time and now we should find out what was wrong with the setup, I need to go and analyse all the data and I hope I will find out.

Q:
There’s a new co-driver name on the window this weekend because Alexey Arnautov is recuperating back home. Is he well? Is he fit? Will he be back soon?

AL:
He’s well, it’s just a decision not to damage his back even more. He’s moving, he’s working, now he’s on holiday in Italy. I miss him of course. It’s not so easy to do such a tough rally with a new co-driver. The notes are extremely important here, maybe more important than somewhere else because everything is so twisty and a lot of blind corners and very tight corners with no room for mistakes. We try to do our best to find a good cooperation inside the car but some issues definitely happen and may happen in future so we should take care about it.

Our Fiesta looks a little bit different from the start but it is working. We were pushing very hard. The last stage when we were rolling, there was not spectators, we were waiting many minutes. We are still fighting. It is strange but we had a lot of fun in this stage."

After 2 whole rallies, 27 stages in total (13 stages on Canary Islands plus 14 in Ireland), SS1 of Acropolis Rally is the first stage that Chuchala doesn't win in group N. He was 3 seconds slower than Ranga. But on SS2 and SS3 Chuchala goes back to the winning mode ;)

I'm afraid it is over for Kajto in this rally. I have just had a look at last year's results and the driver in the 10th position was 11 minutes behind the winner. Kajto already lost 14 minutes and now got additional 70-second penalty...

Well, now it seems I lost faith too quickly. After SS9 Kajto is already 11th, just 39 seconds behind Tibor Erdi, so he still has a chance for 1 point :)

I think Kajto can take the 10th position. Normally he will take 7 or 6 point for the faster driver in the second day if he won't have problem again

In the end, Botka retired with turbo problems. He admitted at the end of the last day that they have to learn how to prepare and service the car better. Also Ranga was quite unlucky, with the car giving up 2kms from the last stage finish with head gasket failure.

yes.

Driving lesser cars mean nothing, an example for that is Ogier, when he was driving the s2000 he was losing stages and rallies and was very close to mikkelsen, when things got serious the real driving skills surface and you can tell the dogs from the drivers. Lukyanuk deserves a chance in a WRC and by chance i do not mean 1-2 useless rallies i mean 1-2 seasons. Kajito can stay in ERC he is no good for anything bigger.

I don't think it's possible to keep your speed just with one-off appearances during the years.Also the lack of testing is crusial and generally the lack of mileage with the car.Last year the conditions were really tricky and that helped him a lot compared to the other drivers (the knowledge of the road under tricky conditions is huge,this does not mean that this year he hadn't knowledge of the roads),this year things were different.The last year he was championsip regular driver was 2006,unbelievable.Also don't forget he is getting older.

no was the first time since 1981 i didnt watched Acropolis from close.

You know, he has driven R2 for so long and as you know, road are pretty rutted with many stones for fragile R2 cars in the Baltics, so I belive that it was good help for him in rough Greece roads;)

Running DS3 R5 is not easy, you must learn a lot of new things. Also driving with that car is quite different than with Mitsubishi.
