Funny isn't it - usually JML or Meeke find the only rock in 20km of stage. In Mexico Latvala has avoided everything that is 'in your face' thus far. Just when I'd stopped believing he had a performance left for my Pickem. But for those who still selected him keep the rule in mind '1st or 2nd otherwise nowhere'

Maybe a matter of speed before jump? Or breaking? (Admit havent seen vid yet)
All the cars jump very nose heavy on that place, land hard on front but all of them stick their rear axle to the ground at first contact while that one Hyundai suffered from clearly visible violent rebound of the rear axle. Similar to what Fabias R5 did last year in Portugal before they sorted it out.
tommeke_B
5th March 2016, 13:26
Also these "fake" jumps often seem to be difficult for cars. It's a very short/sharp jump, quite unnatural. They seem to "kick" the cars much more than a normal jump would.
br21
5th March 2016, 14:44
there are so many factors, not only speed and arriving angle, but also throttle/brake position, damper springs, clicks, ride height, etc influenting behaviour of the car during take-off and landing that it's hard to judge. Also sometimes you need to sacrifice one "special" jump like this one to have good setup for other part of the stage, sometimes you ned to find compromise, etc.

Because I like his attitude, he is fast but knows the limits of the competition and the car, he shows progress and maturity. He started this rally slow then when his confidence grew he attacked and his times are very respectable and fast. If he manages to beat Sordo it is going to be a great show of maturity. He uses the pac-man method of dominace against his rivals eating away chunks of time steadily little by little.

That's exactly like this. The problem with Mads is that he isn't No.1 driver. He is good No.2 to secure solid points but he isn't able to deliver more - what No.1 driver should.
Anyway I wonder how long Malcolm keeps backing Camilli. So far his season is one big disaster and there aren't even signs of progress.
In some way it reminds me 2005 M-Sport transition season with Gardemeister and Kresta - first one solid point-taker and second one unreliable rookie (Kresta improved a lot through the season though). In 2005 they concentrated on Focus 06 development, now 2017 spec. car. In any case they are in bad position for next year to find proper drivers.
I think Mads is doing ok with slow Ford

Andreas Mikkelsen rolled heavily in 2014, Jari-Matti Latvala crashed several years previously and in 2013 Sébastien Ogier stopped to allow co-driver Julien Ingrassia to open a closed gate. How do You know that Ford is slow? Please explain how did You come to that conclusion.
The car construction is quite old and they haven't done many upgrades in all these years. It is slow because other cars got faster.
Mirek
5th March 2016, 17:22
Maybe because Mads was faster last year in Citroen?
Was he? Besides that it's hardly a proof for anything. Drivers may be fast with one car and slow with another. It doesn't mean the car is slow as well. Is Hyundai slower than Ford when Neuville was faster with Ford than with Hyundai?

Mirek, I agree we can't say safely that Fiesta is slow because of what you say but for sure we can at least assume it looking at a number of factor: Ostberg undoubtedly less competitive than when he was at Citroen, or also Hirvonen struggling, even in flatout sections, the big gaps by all the drivers driving it etc. I know the car is not the only variable for such issues. But well, at least you start to suspect something is wrong with it.

I thought the discussion was about Mads as a person but ok. Anyway I believe the differences between cars on WRC level are a lot smaller than differences between drivers and that it's mostly the fans who try to find excuses whenever their hero isn't that good as they wish, so they blame car, team or whatever.
I don't want to say that Fiesta is as fast as Polo but I can't safely say that it's slower than i20 or DS3. Maybe it is maybe it isn't. Still the driving matters more in my opinion.

--------------------------
A little over 24 hours after leaving the road and its abandonment in the first special in the day Friday menu (SS4 - El Chocolate), Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 WRC) gave cover in the second contested this Saturday special (ES12 - Otates 1).
On his way to a second consecutive second time, the Belgian driver, who was left in the Rally 2 with the goal to go steal some points and to accumulate mileage on the Rally Mexico is violently out of the road within five kilometers of the special, long over forty kilometers away.
The Belgian crew unharmed, but Thierry Neuville was taken to the hospital for some tests as a precaution prior to reassure his fans on social networks.
"This morning, the instructions were to bring Thierry few points for the constructors and prepare for Argentina, summed Alain Penasse, Team Manager of Hyundai Belgian team, micro Olivier Gaspard, the Special envoy of the RTBF in Mexico. I do not think we can be happy, to be honest with you. the instructions were very clear, but we must wait to hear the version of Thierry on his return from the hospital before to do our analyzes. Maybe something broke on the car, waiting to hear his version before the shot.
