Roman Kresta confirmed his start with Fabia S2000 :)

That retirement didn't last too long then!

He is doing only Barum and Kopná (as test). He is not returning, just wants some fun once per year at home event ;)

Great! After having seen 2 great events there(Barum '09 and '10), I'm coming back this year. Hopefully a nice S2000/R5 battle. I expect the Skoda's to be still unbeatable on the bumpy tarmac, but who knows... :)

So how many cars for Skoda on Barum and who?

Good chance to see Scandola again after a decent drive on Bohemia?

Mirek
21st July 2014, 10:45
Scandola will drive Italian championship in that time I think. I guess only standard Lappi/Wiegand duo for factory team.

Kopecky in R5?

Mirek
21st July 2014, 11:04
That's the recent rumor in CZ...

Anyway I think that this time we will see non-Škoda winner after five years.

RS
21st July 2014, 12:05
I guess you mean Pech..

It's a tough choice for Skoda.. do you throw everything at it or do you back down and 'prepare for the future'

Still, I believe Lappi is capable of challenging. He's come on a lot since last year.

tommeke_B
21st July 2014, 12:28
Pech is top-favorite yes, regarding his fast times (beating Kopecky) in Czech championship so far. But you never know what Abbring can do if his car proves reliable. He's been doing development-tests in France lately, on roads similar to Barum Rally, and claimed he did 900 kms without a single reliability issue... :)

I'm not sure the 208 suspension will be good enough for Czech roads unless they improved it significantly since Ireland?

They got a solution for the rear window, Plangii and Kruuda used differount mounts between spoiler and window, and it seems no window got cracked? And there were enough jumps to do that. :)

By the way, has DS3 R5s had any rear window problems? Mounting is similar to 208R5.

There were jumps in Otepää, but not as many as I expected. Bumpy Zlin roads might be harder. The proper gravel jump test will come in next week.

Mirek
21st July 2014, 22:07
AFAIK Jakeš had no issues with the rear window of DS3 R5 and he already did three events in CZ.

The difficulties he mentioned were connected to default differential and suspension setup unsuitable for Czech roads.

21st July 2014, 22:23
I think Verschueren had one cracked rear window at Ypres..

Verstuurd vanaf mijn Nexus 5 met Tapatalk

tommeke_B
21st July 2014, 23:02
Yes. And I think all 208's had at least one cracked rear window in Ypres too. Anyway Ypres is more brutal than you think for this, with some kicking jumps/bumps, and maybe even more important, the car touching the ground in deep cuts. Up to some 5-10 years ago there were plenty of issues with onboard cameras in cuts due to the forces. And regarding shock-absorbing of the rear window/wing, I think Barum could be an even bigger challenge than Finland... :)

It looks like Béreš will drive in historics with RX-7.

So not with the Quattro monster? Or is it Beres Sr you are talking about?

PLuto
23rd July 2014, 19:12
Béreš sen. Junior is still planning with Quattro Monster S1, but I will prefer to see him in regular race with Mini S2000, which he is using this year in slovakian championship.

Mirek
25th July 2014, 15:41
According to the press-release from today crews starting in Czech championship may use old-spec. 15" tyres but won't be classified in ERC standings. That means we have for the first time since 2005 two competitive fields in Barum...

Filip
25th July 2014, 16:09
Jarek Z will be delighted. :)

PLuto
25th July 2014, 17:33
We are not happy about that, but situation with tyres is really stupid. FIA made tyres which are ONLY for ERC. And Czech republic is only one which has it mandatory for big championship. If it will be only regular tyre for future, there is no problem. But as Michelin and Pirelli are still producing older type of tyres, this is completely nonsense... So all this is mainly about FIA...

WUff1
25th July 2014, 20:17
Looks like the same thing we already had at Jänner rallye this year - and probably more intense next year ...

polo10
25th July 2014, 21:54
The same in Rally Madeira and it is not ERC but ERC cup, only portuguese drivers and they must used FIA tyres...completly stupid

PLuto
26th July 2014, 17:18
People at FIA still things that they are doing things correctly. Because only me and some other czech people are telling them that it is mistake. But people from other countries/federations/organisers/drivers are silent...

Have I understood the autosport.cz article right, that Barum Rally can lose its ERC status in 2015 ? If this is correct, who has such a stupid idea. Barum rally is together with Ypres the best rally in ERC. It would be better to through out one or more of the rallies on the islands (but not Tour de Corse).
By the way, I think the article also says that Jänner Rallye is not part of the Czech championship 2015

Mirek
28th July 2014, 17:26
Yes, You understand the article right. Eurosport wants more money for new agreement (2015+2016).

And yes, Jänner shall be out of Czech championship but that doesn't mean much because the number of Czech crews there will hardly change.

RS
28th July 2014, 19:56
It would be a big mistake to lose Barum from ERC, but I trust they will come to an agreement.

Skoda wouldn't like to lose it for a start..

vino_93
29th July 2014, 12:15
If we lose Barum to Bohemia, ok I can understand. But if we lose definitively a rally in Czech, that's really bad :(

Jarek Z
29th July 2014, 12:42
Jarek Z will be delighted. :)

I decided no to comment all the idiocy that has been happening in the ERC and rallysport in general in recent months/years. I noticed that whenever I say something logic against those idiotic ideas, people see it as complaining or whining. So I keep my mouth closed now, but I'm sure you all know what I think about dropping Barum from ERC :)

PLuto
30th July 2014, 00:44
And now something more positive - one of the first received entries comes from Neil Simpson - http://www.czechrally.com/en/25773n-neil-simpson-ready-to-enter-barum-rally

Mirek
5th August 2014, 14:34
Some good news regarding historics.

There will be new larger service park for historics directly at the city stage and rally HQ (even closer than it was till now). It's called Rally village. The number of crews was risen to 60. Organizers confirmed an entry of Paul Chieusse with Renault 5 Maxi Turbo and Albano Frassinetti with ex-Delecour Ford Escort RS Cosworth.

5th August 2014, 15:06
What is the difference between Historics and Legends? I've seen it on Rally Bohemia entry list.

Mirek
5th August 2014, 15:13
Historics here usually drive on time while legends only for show, therefore historics have to comply with more strict safety regulations. There will be two groups in Barum as well... actually up to four groups but two are only for city stage (old-timer race and a legend race for non-rally cars).

Fiesta R5 gotten any better on Barum-style bumpy tarmac?

Mirek
18th August 2014, 22:34
Local Fiesta R5 sure yes but it might be problem for foreign teams to adapt but I guess Kajto will have the car set well since Polish roads are similar to ours. Robert Barrable is Irish and their roads are similar too. Who will service the car for Ott?

Regarding weather I actually hope there is some small rain during the rally or overnight. In that case it will be much more spectacular!

Skoda oficially confirmed that Lappi and Wiegand will run the red and white RS livery on Barum.

Kopecky also confirmed in Fabia R5, "not oficially competing but doing all procedures as per the normal rally"

Hopefully the team will instruct Kopecky to run at full competition speed so they can get an idea of how the car compares, as Kopecky will be the perfect benchmark on Barum.

Supertips are points given by the organization because they are able to accommodate large numbers of spectators. It's mainly to attract crowds there. Sometimes they are nice though. Tomas is very good driver, in rally and also in circuits. He was trying to focus to rally during last two years. Main problém is, that in circuits he is paid driver, in rally he must pay/find sponsors. He is able to find some budget, but it isnt enough for proper programme with which he should be satisfied.

Why are the 208s always testing without the rear bumper attached? Does somebody know? :)

No info, but just a guess: possibly they become detached/break quite easily... Therefore no idea in wasting money during testing by destroying few of those. During rallies they have to be attached because it belongs to the homologation. For example if I remember correctly, in WRC Poland this year stewards gave reprimenands to few DS3 R3T drivers for leaving service with some missing front bumper part, AFAIK they were detached to save them in deep ruts.

Good entry for the event - will be nice to have a full strength round of the ERC again. :)

Also looking forward to seeing Breen in action again after missing out in Germany last weekend.

Breen: “I’m really looking forward to the rally, I’ve really learned so much as a driver since I was there last” ... and on returning to his Peugeot 208T16 driving seat said, “I really want to prove that I’m fit and that the 208T16 and I have what it takes to win again”.

I have a lot of respect for Roman Kresta. He is still very fast.

Chris Ingram having issues as well...

"No clutch at all, which is just a nightmare on the road section. On the tight hairpins, it is impossible to get round. I have to stay positive. I am having to rev the car and ram it in gear on the start line."

Will they be able to repair it in service between SS3 and SS4?

Pech left service park just now - so he should continue.

After Michelini yesterday in Friuli it's turn today to Jakes to retire with the DS3 R5 for mechanical problem

Jakes stopped before start SS2.

Any more information about this ? Did Sébastien Chardonnet have the same problem last weekend with power steering problems ?

It is called testing ;-)

Why testing when he should compete? Testing should´nt be on big events.
