We are going for the second time now, but last year, it was difficult to find the right spots.

Yes, although the first cars will start in the sunset.
A return was rumoured this season too, but finally there wasn't an agreement (with Porto's council mainly). It could happen in 2015 again...

There aren't car parks on this event (it is miles away from your home event). Although sometimes you can find a parking-like place, you have to leave your car on the side of the road. So there's plenty of choice depending on the time of arriving and how famous the area you choose is.

So Sordo in i20 in Portugal?

I read that somewhere today and I was quite surprised, but when I looked he was quite fast in Portugal last year until he crashed.

I am a little disappointed how much Hyundai are "diluting" the second car, it doesn't give any of the drivers a chance to really get their teeth into it.

Barreis

Yesterday watched Portugal 2013 and Sordo was in fight for lead. Maybe in second part of season they'll put third car...

Kielder

Today's news about Sordo in Portugal are old news. It's the same that we already know since January, which is that he has a big chance to be there. So until Hyundai's confirmation that he will in Portugal and Argentina there's nothing new.

On the other hand, Chardonnet driving the DS3 R5 here are really great news.

 Really!!! (so what are the tickets being sold on the Rally website?)
If it really is free then I could attend, from my home in London, for less than the cost of attending WRGB. I'd discounted travelling to Lisbon for 1 stage so that on Wednesday after s/d I could try the Sagres (Specially Alcoholic Gut Rot Emetic Solution) and spend Thursday recceing spectator points. Arrive Wednesday morning and leave Saturday night. This is becoming a persuasive proposition!!

As I said in a previous year the rally pass avaiable on the rally's website is not really worth it, it grants you some exclusive parking spots near the service park and an exclusive spectator zone for each day of the rally. You dont need it to spectate and you can also acess the service park without it.

Also only one Subaru on the entry list... as Bob Dylan once said "The Times are a Changing"

Another spectator question. I've found all the info and videos of different zones online.

If you're in a spectator zone is there scope to walk down the stage or is it very strict? I suppose what I'm asking is will you essentially have the same view twice if you stay for both runs.

Secondly, how easy is it to transfer between stages? Any big queues/road closures etc?

It is a bit strict, I sugest moving to a different spectator zone between passes.

The traffic flows nicely within the acess roads, sometimes there might be some zones with large amounts of parked cars.

It's placed exactly two kilometres before the stage crosses over the highway. You have to go to ZE08, then walking following the direction of the stage. There is one way to arrive a few meters before the stage, but I don't recommend it to you.

Approximately. It's not needed to arrive very early, though if you arrive late you'll have to walk more because you'll park your car more far from ZE08.
On the other hand, you have to take into account that the point where the video you post was recorded from is currently forbidden, so you have to stay on the other side of the road. Anyway, the view is similar.

As for each WRC event, you can discover the stages through RallyVista animation (3D maps in motion). For this Rally de Portugal you will even find a bonus.

When entering the Rally Portugal sub menu I get this message:

"Klucz API Map Google używany w tej witrynie został zarejestrowany dla innej witryny. Projektant tej witryny może wygenerować nowy klucz na tej stronie."

What does it mean?

Thanks

Mirek
26th March 2014, 08:41
It's in Polish, something like:

"Key of API Google map used in this window remained registered for another window. Developer of that window can generate new key for the window."

I have no idea what does it mean. I'm no programmer....

Thank you Mirek for the translation. Oppositelock, are you accessing Internet from Poland ? Are you using 3D or 2D (on smartphone) version ?
Personally I don't have this problem on my computer (we are based in France). An easy test for you is to reinstall "Google map API" and relaunch your browser.
We will look for the cause of this problem with my IT colleague, please notice us if there is a change in your situation.

I know it's a tad bit early but does anyone have any ideia on how the weather's going to be? I've already looked at many weather sites but some say rain and some say sun.

It was this forum that saved me from a monumental cold in 2012, particularly Bluuford.

Put you safety belt and breathe deeply . Take a deep breath, because you are about to step on sacred territory . Once passed through, you will join the legends , the major gods of the steering wheel , immortalizing yourselves from word to word , from story to story . Do not, however, be intimidated by what awaits you. We are many, it's true, but on that day we expect only what you can give us . The more than 100 thousand people who await you just want to take with them a memory, be it an exaggerated jump, or a full flat out entry in the Confurco roadside. For every inch covered in the last 6 kilometers off Lameirinha stage, are quench the thirst that lasts, since 2001, and takes to go . Because Lameirinha is not just one more Rally stage, is much more than that. Because the rumbling of cars echoes from Pereira to Pedra Sentada Jump's 365 days a year . Because in these 6 km McRae , Burns , Toivonen are alive and well , there remain, and there will continue. So , beware , this is an opportunity to become immortal . The Fafe Rally Sprint 2014 may not tell the story of the books, the history and points records, but it is a door to immortality, for you, yourselves, to become legends of the most mythical, sacred, immortal 6 km of rallying! Sry, I was on the fieldworks for half of the week.It looks like weather around Fafe will be little bit wet tomorror and very wet on Sunday.
The period before Rally Portugal should be very rainy.Thursday might be the turning point with less rain and if we are lucky, then the whole weekend will be mostly dry.

Today, before heading to the stage of the Fafe Rally Sprint, as I did last year I spent an hour at the Service Park. It's more interesting to see the mechanics working there than in a Service of a rally because the place it is less crowded than a WRC event. The drivers are much more relaxed too, without pressure. All of them were there but Sordo. It was a pleasure to meet Meeke, a driver who I specially admire due to his speed and everything that has happened to him (I couldn't resist to tell him that I won't ever forget the Knockalla onboard). On the other hand, it's strange to see Citroen's team now, it looks like they're on holiday. At Hyundai everything is brand new, many people working on the car and the data. It's obvious they will stay here for a long time. Some pics:

Weather shortly:

1. Shakedown, It will be very rainy from now on until shakedown. Weather should slowly improve from shake.
2. Lisbon stage. Some showers during the day. Stage should be dry
3. Friday whole day is cloudy (maybe foggy as well), some little rain is expected in the morning
4. Saturday stages, very little chanche of light drizzle in the morning, then weather gets better and better, sun comes out, temperature climbs over +15
5. Sunday stages.Should be almost like beach weather. temperature near to 20, light wind, sunny.
All the time until Saturday evening, it should be little bit humid, and a bit chilly, mostly between +12..+15.

Rain should mostly stop by tomorrow noon and there is a possibility that there will not be any raindrops during the whole rally, including shakedown and Lissbon stage.
Actually, currently shoud be the worst conditions until today evening. Once again very different conditions for recce and rally.. this time the opposite compared to 2012.

At least, today it isn't the first day of the rally, as in 2012. Because of the heavy rain on the first day of that event, the organisation hasn't returned to the stages near to Tavira, in my opinion the best ones.

dimviii

so all top crews with soft tyres according to borl

The times were much slower today, however, due to the muddy conditions resulting from recent heavy rain. The Finn posted his best effort (3m5.2s) at second attempt, quite late on, with his Polo R WRC on soft-compound Michelin ‘S2’ tyres. Before him, Solberg (Ford) had led the field with a 3m6s on his fourth run. This year, only two passes are mandatory for the Priority 1 and 2 drivers, compared with four previously.
Also on soft tyres, Ogier posted a 3m7.1s on his second run, ahead of Sordo (Hyundai i20 WRC, 3m7.8s) who went 8.5 seconds better when he switched from hard to soft rubber.
Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) was fifth (3m8.3s), ahead of Hyundai’s Juha Hanninen (3m8.4s) and Thierry Neuville (3min08s5) who was the only driver to complete three passes on hard tyres. Mads Ostberg (Citroën) was ninth, behind Robert Kubica (Ford).
