Gret time JML. Good also from Dani in the i20 and Kubica keeping up his pace and keeping car on the road :). Meeke Struggled in that stage with lack of experience with the tyres, Mikkelsen quite poor tbh

For me rallying skills are about, except from good strategy, how to handle a rallycar in 6th gear on gravel or snow when you have a pace note saying 5 left or right. Not driving in 60 km/h on slush with X set of tyres.
I haven't expected such statement from You :(
Rallying is and ALWAYS has been about coping with conditions. This event called Rallye Monte Carlo gave the name to the whole sport. It is far older than any other rally in the world and it has always been about the fight with conditions. How about Safari? Argentina? Acropolis? That is not rallying for You?
For sure, but all those rallies has average speed well over 60 km/h. Why didnt you expect that quote from me, btw? I´ve said it many times before. Don´t forget last year in Monte they cancelled two stages from very dodgy reasons...
RMC should be in WRC, no doubt, but real rallying is to handle cars with proper setups of tyres (not crossover solutions) and in 6th gear over blind crests etz, etz... And not gambling...

What's going on? Again private M-sport drivers are better than manufacture team? the same tyres and the same car
Mikko missed on the tires and Evans can hardly be asked to follow a man of Bouffier's ability and experience on his first event in the car?
Mikko on SS4 had the same tires as Kubica and Bouffier.

Well, as I said earlier, it's a gambler's driver time.
Manufacture's drivers are just playing save for now. Just my guess.
That's ok for Evans, but Mikko with his expirence doing so slow times ;( and playing for safe it is bad strategy for manufacture team.

It's the Monte, no way can you cherrypick a single stage time to compare - besides, Mikko isn't exactly what you would call an asphalt specialist. You have to call Robert and Bryan asphalt specialists. And I would struggle to call Robert a private driver, he just happens to have a major sponsor that wants to be associated with him, so he's in an MSport2-team.

Of which 1.34 is from stage 3, and the wrong tire choice.
I am not surprised Bryan is half a minute faster than Mikko in identical cars.. when it's the Monte.
And I really don't understand why so many people seem to be.
Do people really not know these drivers and their individual capabilities? It's just a 'manufacturer driver has to be faster than any private driver, on any event, no matter what! Anything else is a disaster!' that keeps being said.

You have to realise folk love an underdog. And me personally, and by the looks of it many others don't find Ogier an overly likeable guy to support if you were to back a driver. The thought of another 9yr dominance also pains people

I agree, very disappointing. But he didn't do Monte the last 2 years I think and last time he did he crashed on the first corner. Waiting for more from him later in the season.

That is what makes Monte so interesting!
What a bad performance by Hirvonen! Hope he can find his speed and confidence back in Sweden!

Just checked ewrc.cz and Meeke as driven Monte 5 times. In 2003 & 2004 with Corsa s1600, in 2005 with C2 s1600 where he won, and in 2009 & 2010 with the 207 S2000.

Exactly. Meeke has a big experience deficit to other guys in the field- both in driving a wrc spec car and doing wrc rallies. This is only his 11th start in a WRC car in the WRC. Even Ostberg is around 60 or 70+ starts in WRC . Kubica has amazed me today!!!

I think I said at the time, either on here or in Twitter than Hyundai should gave kept Bouffier for Monte. He's done lots of testing in the car - and goes well on the event. But, they made their choice....

What a day today has been! Only heard the standings at the end of it and was chuffed to bits to see Meeke and Evans up there! Some of the standings don't really reflect the pace of some drivers it was that changeable!
We started off on the snowy ss1 and heard Neuville crash with a bang over what should have been an easy flat crest, wiping out a telegraph pole!
Next stage had snow down so the cars were very slow, but I quite enjoyed watching the car control.
Then in the pouring rain we went back to our first stage of the day at a quick section over a bridge, before moving back to the other stage at a downhill, open hairpin.
2 runs at the stage I pictured above tomorrow. Bring it on!

Weather for tomorrow:
Looks like it will be pretty boring (in terms ofweather). It will be warmer than initially expected. There is still plenty of rain expected. Mostly light, medium and rarely moderate. Temperature should be mostly between +2 and +5, no snow is expected. I expect a lot of mud..specially on the long stage as it is mostly running between the fields with possible cuts. So, first cars on the road should benefit.
Very low clouds, some fog, nearly no wind and low visibility is expected also. Weather should improve in the late afternoon (around 3 PM) Temperature starts to drop during the last stage.. Some of the last cars may hit some black ice on the higher elevations.
So, water and mud on the road will be keywords for tomorrow.
How many snow tyres are they allowed to use?

How many snow tyres are they allowed to use?
"Michelin’s top drivers have a choice of four types of tyre for this year’s Rallye Monte-Carlo, namely a snow tyre with or without studs, plus ‘soft’ and ‘super-soft’ versions of the firm’s asphalt tyre. The RC1 priority drivers have a total allocation of 82 tyres to choose from (24 softs, 24 super-softs, 24 studded snow tyres and 10 snow tyres without studs) but may only use 40 on the rally. "

Unexpected problem in Kubica's camp. Before the rally he said that his plan for this year is to win at least 1 special stage in WRC. He has done it already on the very first rally, so what now? :D

Not much testing. But client car at M-Sport this year, I have a feeling means a car much closer, not to say excactly the same as factory cars?

If you have read Prokop's interview at the end of 2013, he admitted that his car was (is) at least 95% same as factory cars. He has no excuse of beeing slower compare to factory cars due to handicap in technik.....Fair from him !
He even said that all technical improvements were immediately available to him....you need to put €€€ on Malcom's table and you get everything!!

So that explains it all then. Bouffier has paid or MW paid for his updates, no doubt. In 2012 you couldn´t pay for getting the latest. I know that from close source.

For an example,
In Rally Sweden, P.Tidemand will drive a latest spec Fiesta as an privateer for M-Sport. So yes, this year, you can get latest updates even as a privateer. :)
