I don't think that the WRC didn't care about telling us the news right away or that WRCLive didn't say it straight away.. perhaps as it has happened in Australia recently; when a driver or co-drive has passed/died - they cannot confirm it straight away until next of kin is told. You know, the closest person to the person who died (family, wife, child, husband, parents etc)
So the WRC officially saying it on the radio, or in a press release and the family finding out that way? How would you feel?
I can understand the news goes out so fast nowadays on twitter and the internet... the WRC/FIA maybe are respecting the family members and team members....
And I personally posted it online... but only to alert people of the stage cancellation...

If the rally continues then we will have an IRC/ERC battle (very close between first and second) something that Neuville knows well. It'll be very interesting on Dhrontal tomorrow.

If Sordo win this rally I will be extremely upset. He has done nothing in this season that justify winning this rally. Neuville is the one who really deserve to win this, given his pace and performance this season.

No, he gets 5+5 from stage winner. You get 10 minutes when its is the last stage of the day. When the stage is cancelled, then there is no penalty. So, withs ome crazy driving he can reach to fifth..

An update in the gallery: ADAC Rallye Deutschland 2013 (http://rallirinki.kuvat.fi/kuvat/ADAC+Rallye+Deutschland+2013/)
This is surely a day that would've been better not to happen. Our condolences to the families of those who died in the accident. Our beloved sport is dangerous but these things shouldn't happen.
We did three stages today in a relaxed schedule. First at Stein & Wein on a wall in hairpin left into right. No drama, but it was spectacular place. Watched until Kubica, then a switch to Panzerplatte. We did the same place as last year with view over two approaches and two left corners. This time they allowed spectators on the inside of the X, so it was different and more clearer view now. Nothing bigger there this year, few flat tyres or such. Off to Peterberg 2, and then the news started to pour in. First Latvala's retirement, huge disappointment but it soon got perspective after the worse news reached us. By then, WRC event was rather calm with so many retirements and more came in. Wiegand (see picture) came through with bent rear tyre. Also one of the JWRC crews span into the field there (it was the left hander with nothing behind near the finish of the stage).
One short day left. At least there's short gap between the first two. If the logic of the event continues, it should be Neuville for the win then.

Thierry Neuville interview:
“It was a difficult afternoon. Where we had the problem on SS12, I was already 20km/h slower than usual but I think we should have probably been another 20km/h slower than that! We were very lucky because it could have been easy to lose the whole rally there.
“Jari-Matti [Latvala] had brought a lot of mud onto the road which sent me sliding wide. We hit a log pile which damaged the exhaust and left us slightly down-on-power for the remainder of the loop. But I think we managed the situation well and we achieved the maximum in the circumstances.
“We are definitely going to push tomorrow and we will attack from the start. But we won’t take any unnecessary risks – especially if the weather is as tricky as it was this afternoon. We need to be clever and keep all four wheels on the road. It will not be an easy day, but we are ready to fight and give it our all.”
Good luck Thierry, I think we all hope you beat Sordo... ;)

A brief review from today...
First of all my condolences to friends and families of the victims...
We started the day with a fast place on SS Stein & Wein (see photo of Neuville), had quite a good overview, seeing 3 proper corners. It was clear that Latvala had an advantage by being first on the road, he did a huge cut in the corner, and threw a lot of dust on the road. Nobody managed to get the same speed as he had in that corner. Hayden Paddon was very fast but had some moment only 2 corners after us, we could see him going in sideways and heard a lot of noise from the tyres, but he kept it on the road. The second place was Panzerplatte (see photo of Riedemann), it was a combination of some corners. Fast right corner with cut into long fast left corner (photo) that ended with a little jump (for the fastest drivers) before going into another left corner with a cut. Very nice place to watch, especially DS3's were impressive (as on all places in fact). Then we went off to Stein & Wein 2, we were in some long medium right corner with a big cut. With the heavy rain it resulted in a lot of mud (see Paddon's photo). Latvala was struggling, Anttila holding the door... Sordo very fast there, he looked really confident in the slippery conditions. Some 100m after the corner there was some bump. It was interesting to see that both VW and DS3 were much more stabile than the Fiesta's there, Fiesta's were kicked in the air much more (especially Ostberg, but that was due to his driving line as well). There we left for Panzerplatte but had to change plans after we heard the unfortunate news...
Something else, we've seen the gravel crew of Andreas Mikkelsen on the road section (which was already strange), and heard a rumor that they were working for Tidemand as Mikkelsen did not start. Gravel crews are strictly forbidden for JWRC... Anyone heard more about it?

A sad day indeed. Thought and best wishes to family and friends.
I know, to finish first you have to finish but crazy attrition rate today and Dani backs himself into P1. If Thierry beats him tomorrow Matton may well take a dim view. Perhaps France (perhaps not quite because of you know who....) and Spain will offer another chance but is he just buying time? Whatever happens, there's be one or possibly 2 new faces at Citroen Racing next season. I suspect 2 new faces......

Good luck to Dani, I know a lot of people are hoping for Thierry to get his first win, but I can't help but feel for Dani - he has been waiting so much longer! Plus I feel he has driven a very smart rally, driven at his own pace and built up speed as needed, but kept out of pushing to the max and getting embroiled in the fight too soon.
Also very interesting to note that he was only person who seemed to enjoy the slippery conditions according to the end of stage comments? What is the forecast for tomorrow?

Interesting information from WRR:
Split strategy for Sordo (4x Hards and 2x Softs) and Neuville (5x Hards). Rain predicted around noon.
So rain might decide the battle! With rain, I'm afraid Sordo will win it. But I want Neuville to take his first win :D Go Go Thierry and Nicolas!

Sorry for being honest here, but would that be a good thing then? He only has something to offer on asphalt. He had time enough. Pretty sure Meeke is the better allround driver.
And please.. The one who deserves it, is the one who was fastest at the end of the rally. Sordo doesn't deserve it "because he's been waiting for it longer." That's just a load of bull... If he doesn't lose 3 seconds in the last stage, then he deserves it.

Yea I agree 100% with you, it was some other guy from Belgium whobsaid that.
How some, I said that yesterday, If Sordo finish first, he deserve it like if that was Oger, Neuville or Östberg...
Rally is all about getting first place, who cares about mistakes or how fast you were un till you end up in a ditch...

That's what I say, that my desire is that he doesn't lose lose three seconds in the PS. Maybe it would be the basis to recover the forgotten Sordo who was closer to Loeb on tarmac.
Moreover, half of the drivers who currently run on the WRC would would giver their eye's teeth for having the speed of Sordo on asphalt.
On the other hand, I haven't said anything about Meeke. That's what the f.....g Spanish press used to do to praise Sordo on the Mini era. It's as unfair as mentioning him now to undervalue Dani.

A sad incident. I heard about Chardonnet hitting a dog on the stage, but now I read the story... Apparently, these spectators wanted to install a GoPro-camera on the side of the road 45 minutes before the first car came through. But the marshalls yelled at them and scared anyone away to guarantee safety. (When I see some of the videos being posted here, I have serious doubts about the choices some spectators AND marshalls make about their safety...)
But when the cars are actually racing, there is a dog (without owner apparently) who roams the street for 4 - 5 minutes. The dog is just walking there. I can understand you can't avoid a dog being hit by a rallycar when he's just running up the SS seconds before a car passes, but with two minutes between cars, they can scare a dog away no?
Trauriger Zwischenfall..

With regards to Sordo vs Neuville argument. Looking at the whole season, Neuville was performing much better than Sordo, so in imho, he deserves this victory more than Sordo. Why I say that, given the countless rallies Sordo took part in compared with Neuville, we did not see any sign of improvment at all from Sordo. And if he is fast on asphalt, will, give him a seat on those events, and give the chance for real talents to have the seat for the rest of the calender. In general I think Sordo seat is a waste, there are alot of talented drivers deserve that seat way much more than Sordo.

Eight years. 107 WRC starts. 20 second places. 14 third places. Always loyal to the team and Monsieur Loeb. Sacked from Citroen because of younger, faster, French driver. Went on to Prodrive Mini to develop a very fast tarmac car and drove three podium placements to them. Team ran into financial difficulties - Dani lost his seat and became victim of politics once again.
Now, at this moment, only 24,58 kilometres of Dhrontal and Thierry Neuville stand between Dani's first win. Vamos Dani!

You can also support almost all drivers. That is something I don't understand. :)
It's not so hard really. You're following him from his 18th year, when he drives a C2 over the limit in your own championship. Then he grows, so you keep rooting for him. And finally he delivers something. He doesn't even speak the same language as me (though he tries). But I admit that his nationality plays a certain role. "Neuville wil win many rallies..." I have a déjà-vu. The same was being said about a certain François. :)
Anyway, a bit of patriotism in sports makes it all the more interesting. Wait for World Cup 2014 :p
