Live ERC television coverage from SATA Rallye Açores
One of the most spectacular events on the FIA European Rally Championship calendar will be produced for live television broadcast by Eurosport Events, the promoter of the ERC.
SATA Rallye Açores, which takes place on the picturesque Atlantic archipelago from 25-27 April, will be shown live on Eurosport and RTP Açores, with a possibility of coverage on RTP on the Portuguese mainland plus other networks still under discussion.
Eurosport and RTP Açores will simultaneously broadcast the two runs of the Sete Cidades stage on Friday 26 April and the two passes of the Tronqueira stage on Saturday 27 April.
Taking place around the rim of a volcanic crater lake measuring five kilometres in diameter, Sete Cidades is considered one of the most stunning stages in international rallying. Located in the far west of the island of São Miguel, the stage presents a huge test for drivers, who negotiate the narrow, twisting gravel tracks at high speed. With drops of 400 metres to the water below, there is quite simply no margin for error.
While Sete Cidades represents the sensational, the Tronqueira stage showcases São Miguel’s lush countryside with a mixture of tree-lined sections and undulating stretches adding to the challenge for competitors as well as the spectacle for television viewers.
Earlier this week, Gilbert Roy, Director of Editorial and Programme Development for Eurosport Events, joined ERC General Co-ordinator Jean-Pierre Nicolas, an international rally-winning driver turned team boss, plus other key Eurosport Events’ personnel, for a two-day reconnaissance of the event route. During the visit they drove through the Sete Cidades and Tronqueira stages to finalise static camera points and earmark suitable locations where the helicopter, equipped with a Cineflex camera, will fly.
“Working in conjunction with Francisco Coelho and his event organising team, we selected the Sete Cidades and Tronqueira stages for live broadcasting because of the spectacular countryside they pass through and the stunning images this will create,” said Roy. “São Miguel’s scenery is quite simply incredible and truly spectacular, while Sete Cidades is the most beautiful place I’ve encountered in rallying. Our visit to the island this week has been a great success in terms of our final planning and now we cannot wait to transmit what will be truly amazing pictures around the world in April.”

BTW, There are only 4 days per year, when you can homologate new car, right? 1st. January, 1st. April, 1st.July and 1st.October? That sucks.
Mirek
27th February 2013, 14:23
It's sure negotiable with FIA. You can find plenty of homologotaions with other dates - 1st March, 1st May, 1st September etc. Also don't forget that while Fiesta S2000 was on paper homologated at 1st January in reality it was during scrutineering of Rallye Monte Carlo which is three weeks later.

Marcus is medically unable because of his back injury as I understand it. Think wider - Iberian Rally, VW S2000s no longer being used, ex-World Champion may have got the bug and would like a break in the acores. - Carlos!!

At the beginning, I though the Champ could be Carlos too. The Spaniard was rumoured to participate on the rally last year. However, Marcus's profile matches better. He recently drove again a WRC car and he's not as busy as Carlos. Besides, "Turismo de Portugal" managed him to be on the entry list of WRC Portugal '09 after a year of retirement. They can do it again.

Romania Championship is aim. ERC tough with no turbo, bit we will try maximum for sure!!
Maybe this means he will be there in Acores?
Kopecky won two rounds so far without one...
Maybe Kronos could get their hands on an DS3?
Anyhow I hope this doesn't mean Delecour is wimping out of his ERC campaign.

Info from @B_Sousa_rally (https://tweetcaster.com/b_sousa_rally), Robert Kubica may miss the Azores Rally because of pain and discomfort resulting from Rally Portugal problems

It's physically impossible to do 7 WRC rounds and all ERC rounds as most of them are a week ahead of the other, unless you have 2 cars and you made of iron :) , also budget wise is not real.

The provision of cars is the rate determining factor, something I imagine that Citroen will be more than happy to arrange. A fit professional driver should be able to cope with weekly competition in the manner of any other sportsman.
Let's not forget that rallies in the past demanded much more physical strength and endurance. Vic Elford in 1968 won the Monte and the following weekend the Daytona 24 hrs for Porsche. In addition to all the WC sportscar rounds, he also competed in 7 GPs and the British Saloon car championship during 1968. It should also be remembered that travel between events was less easy during that period. If the car and the cash are sorted RK should be more than capable of such a schedule despite a couple of long hauls in WRC (recce time included)

I know there are 2 cars available but it looks like very hard job to do and a lot more money to spend than planned. Especially when there are events 4 days appart it will be logistic challange. Anyway what I meant was it would be really big operation to do and a lot of money to spend on that kind of program, there will be couple of events weekend by weekend in different parts of Europe. I would love to see him in both anyway.

ERC Rally Azores Peugeot Rally Academy Event Preview
http://www.craigbreen.com/images/news/preview.jpg (http://www.craigbreen.com/images/news/full_preview.jpg)
The Peugeot Rally Academy, which was set up this year to promote the careers of three talented young drivers, will have its complete line-up in the Azores for the first time this season. The cars of Craig Breen, Jérémi Ancian and Stéphane Lefebvre will be run by Saintéloc and the trio will be looking to continue their strong progress at the fourth round of the European Rally Championship (ERC), the first of the year on gravel.
A clear mission
Bruno Famin (Director, Peugeot Sport): “This is effectively the first timewe will have our three young recruits competing on the same event. They have already produced some solid performances, and the Azores will provide them with another chance to show the same sort of form! Craig is second in the championship and, thanks to his consistency, should be able to challenge for the title despite the stiff competition he faces. Jérémi’s first outing in the Canary Islands revealed that he has the speed, but the aim for him will be to reach the finish in order to gain more experience. Last but not least, Stéphane is very quick on gravel and now knows the 208 R2 like the back of his hand, so he has a real chance of winning.” Bruno Famin will be in the Azores to watch over his fold…
Craig Breen, 2nd in the provisional ERC standings
The fourth round of the 2013 ERC will be the third appearance in the series of Irishman Craig Breen. Along with his co-driver Paul Nagle, the Peugeot Rally Academy driver is currently 18 points behind the championship’s provisional leader, Jan Kopecky, and has shown a competitive blend of consistency and speed since the beginning of his campaign. He feels comfortable on the loose with the 207 S2000 and stands to harvest further points on the Mid-Atlantic Island and even, why not, victory. True, the competitive edge of the RRC cars leaves little room for hope, but nobody is immune from making a mistake…
Stéphane Lefebvre targeting class success
With co-driver Thomas Dubois sitting alongside, the 2012 Volant 207’s ‘Junior’ winner Stéphane Lefebvre will be making his second ERC appearance in the Azores. After impressing in Latvia in the 208 R2 against rivals with far more experience of competing on snow, he will have his sights set on victory in the R2 class on the all-gravel Portuguese round. Indeed, he is particularly strong on the loose and now has a thorough understanding of his car. In addition to his European Championship programme as part of the Peugeot Rally Academy, he is also contesting this year’s French 208 Rally Cup in which he is targeting the top prize.

Breen confident after test :)
Craig said he wasn’t surprised that he was able to make “big strides” during a pre-event test ahead of round four of the FIA European Rally Championship this week.
He sampled his Peugeot Rally Academy 207 Super 2000 on gravel for the first time during a pre-rally test session on Monday, “It was my first time driving the car on gravel and I was really happy with how the it behaved. I won’t say I was surprised because I knew it would be good but everything worked really well and we made some big strides with the set-up of the car. Everyone was working really hard – it was one of those days when you change something it’s better and you don’t have to go round in circles trying to find a solution. The weather was not perfect but it looks like it will be the same for the rally.”
Breen has never competed in the Açores before and said the test had provided a timely confidence boost. “It was a bit of an unknown quantity coming here,” said the Irish ace. “I didn’t know what to expect from the car or the rally and I’m feeling a hell of a lot more confident now...”

Yes, he will not start. Instead of monday test his team was rebuilding his car from tarmac spec to gravel spec, on Tuesday I was the car going around port, but yesterday they put engine out of the car and didnt returned it back... It is a pity, but he will be missing.

I hope this conditions don't cost to Rallye Açores the same punish as the Rally of Portugal had to paid after the 2001 edition. There are some rallyes knocking on the door of the ERC. Besides, next year the Rallye of Portugal could be moved to the North. Remember that that rallye in the South was part of the IRC in 2008. It could be a consolation prize, an intermediate solution for the (secular) controversy that has started between Portuguese fans from the North and South ones. Now, make no mistake: I don't want the ERC out of Açores.
