This weekend there's the 3rd round of the BFO-BRC (www.bfo-brc.be (http://www.bfo-brc.be)), the 30th edition of Rallye de Wallonie. The event is based in Jambes, Namur (only 30km from Huy - Rallye du Condroz). The event covers 24 stages (217,03km SS). Friday there's one show-stage on the Citadelle. Saturday there are 5 different stages, each done 3 times. On sunday there are 4 stages each driven 2 times. In general the stages are very fast, a bit similar to Rallye du Condroz.

The entry list is the best we've seen in a long time in the Belgian championship. Strong battles are expected in all classes. :)

i´m curious about duvals speed, will he be able to match loix? will he be even able to match kuipers? will he push for a win and crash, or will he just try to gain some confidence with the car and develop more speed during the rallye to set some scratchtimes. or will he be much further down the order? will be defenetly interesting!

quite hard to say, i think on the typical belgian stages like for example ypres and tac rallye the focus should have some advantage accelerating out of the corners with a lot of toque. wallonie doesnt have so much junctions, so maybe the focus has not a lot of advantage. on the other hand the mini is not really the best of the 1.6 liter wrc´s.

Kuipers-Fiesta combination impressed me the WRC experience did good to him, I think!

The trio of Kuipers, Duval and Loix were great for this rally, on the limit action! Loved it :)

Same thing with Boon, Geussens and De Mevius saw nice things from them! But there were many others who did a good job :)

It seems more to be a case of machines than people because if You put these shots of Weijs in F2 videos of 1990' nobody would notice he came from different era and everybody would be cheering for him like for the stars of those times.

Had a great rally. Pitty there's not more competition for Freddy, but I don't think it will change this year (except for Ypres I hope). Wevers was very spectacular. Jonkers was over the limit on many places, nice to see. And Snijers showed that he should drive a RWD car all time in fact, seen some very crazy things from him (on JM his video there are some nice moments from him too). :) Photos coming later today.

In the Dutch championship you can drive on bio-fuels (bio-ethanol for the Evo and bio-methanol for the Nissans), but in Belgium you can't. The event counted for both championships. After the official result for the Dutch championship was made up, these cars were officially excluded from the Belgian result. ;)

I've been searching but unfortunately I didn't find it. Maybe the official result from Dutch championship will be published later on, I'll keep you updated if I find it... ;) Hermen Kobus retired because there was a crack in the hose from the fuel thank (that was bought brand new at M-Sport apparently). 2nd retirement in a row, with only 1 result out of 4 events his championship is ruined... :(

She won! But she wasn't fastest, Lietaer was just faster with his Subaru S6. But he punctured twice and finished 2nd. 3th was for Vanwijnsberghe with a S9, he usually drives an Escort MKII. Quite some tester for Ypres: Vanneste (207 S2000, retired), Heunink (C2 R2, won FWD) and De Mevius (208 R2, was a few seconds behind Heunink but retired on the last stage) en Coene (Evo X N4, 4th overall). Also a lot of tester in Historic.

The gravelsection are rare in this rally indeed, I think there are only 2 little sections.
Maybe it was the first loop. In the beginning it was a bit damp I think, although I wasn't there. But must have been the wrong tyre choice anyway.

Sorry but the tread pattern on Davy V's S2000 is definitely an intermediate...I studied tires while at uni.

No, I didn't say that intermediates and ERC tires have the same pattern, that's nonsense!
I said the pattern of an "old style" intermediate tire is closer to the ERC tire pattern than the "old style" slick.
So conclusion of that is what you wrote, that it made no sense to get used to "old" slicks, when you have to use ERC tires on Ypres Rally. But as the rain was also a factor, we know what was going on...

There was a lot of wind on the rally day of Geko Rally Wervik and after the rain in the morning, which was quite heavy but only for a few minutes, the sun came out for the rest of the day.
Lot of wind and sun means indeed that the roads dried out very quick.

Last sunday, Rallye de la Haute Senne. Small event in Wallonia. In the 90s there was one edition where Ypres was a candidate-event for the WRC, and then some stages were organized in that region.
Jean-Pierre Vande Wauwer won the event with a BMA-Skoda Octavia WRC, with only 5s advantage to Lionel Hansen, who was driving a Fabia WRC for the first time. It was an exciting battle all day long. :)

Police needs to check on the safety in stages, but it's often a cowboy-cop who's driving the car, especially in that region. In Rallye de Wallonie for example there's the same VW Touareg every year, going very fast for a road car, cutting everywhere, jumping on the jumps etc. It's all fun as long as nothing goes wrong. :)

Omloop van Vlaanderen next week. 5th round of the BFO-BRC, run on Friday night (2 stages) and saturday (14 stages), totalling 16 stages and 186km SS. The title battle seems to be over (Loix won all on all and there's no real contender), but the S2000-fight is expected to be very nice. 4 S2000 cars, of which all 4 are able to win. Also interesting is the first outing of Snijers in his new 997 GT3.

The list isn't as good as other years, but still not bad, considering the championship this year. Some of the entries:

A small post of first day of Omloop van Vlaanderen, run in the city where I live.

Seen one stage of both historic and modern cars today, was nice. Loix as usual, beating everyone. Kuipers overshot a junction on SS2, which explains his big time loss there. Snijers' GT3 is a very nice car, real proper rally-car, unlike many other GT3's. The engine has 420hp, could be more, but now they made the most efficient mapping (torque curve etc). Also the (Reiger) suspension looks good, very long spring travel for that kind of car, first time I've seen it. Some parts are really lightweight also, like the doors, they are so light that they feel like pieces of plastic when you open/close them. In total the car weighs 150kg less than the 996 GT3 he drove in the past. I'm sure we'll have a lot of pleasure watching him with it in the future. :)

Sad news... Vanneste had a heavy crash on SS2, a lot of damage on the car, both driver and codriver went to hospital for check-up but are OK. Of course, after Ypres (car burned completely) and another nearly written-off car on it's first event, it's not looking good for him.

Omloop van Vlaanderen was a nice rally, did some very fast and impressive places!

Loix didn't seem to push much, but won easely. Kuipers, you could see he was slower then Loix in the fast sections.
The biggest spectacle came from Kobus (a pity his car keeps breaking down), Verschueren, Snijers (what a beast!), Lietaer and the R2 cars (De Cecco, Baugnet, De Mevius, Van der Marel, Radoux etc).

A lot of crashes (Vanneste en Cornelis were quite heavy), at least 7 in the last 500m of the Zilverberg stage.

As I understood it, it was at the start of the stage. A marshall told them to turn around and return to the servicepark. They checked in at the time control before the start, but not at the start itself.

Changes in the rules for next year:
- WRC's are still allowed, but only score points for their position in general standings, no longer for class standings. Other cars will score for general position and class position.
- All results (of 8 rounds) will be counted for the championship result.
(Finally!) Very good deal IMO, hope to see at least 5 R5's/S2000 doing the championship next year!

Yes, the junior championship is definitely the best decision taken in years. A lot of junior-drivers, but also not-junior drivers who want to measure themselves with equal machinery. Boon is on the list without a car yet... I think every driver wants to be in a 208 R2 at this point. :) Condroz will be even better with the French 208 cup with guys like Arzeno, Abbring, Lefebvre etc joining.

Some first news and (normally very reliable) rumors about the 40th Rallye du Condroz. The rally will have it's shakedown on Friday morning, in Marchin (where a stage used to be), from 8 to 12h. At 15h there is a first show stage, in Ben-Ahin (well-known stage that has been used every time since... ever I think). Saturday the rally will continue with 2 loops of 8 stages (the cars probably return to service halfway the loop). Sunday the rally continues with 2 loops of 5 stages, first stage would be at 7h36 in the morning! So it makes a total of 27 stages, "only" 265km SS (some stages used to be longer but they often split them in seperate stages to keep some important roads open for traffic). The first and the last stage of the rally should be transmitted live on (local) TV, for the people of the forum I hope there will be some live-stream, but that's very unsure.

Peugeot and Total have been the major sponsor in Rallye du Condroz for years. And some rumors said (and I wouldn't be surprised) that a Peugeot 208 R5 would be 0-car. In the past (2006) Bouffier was driving a 207 S2000 as 0-car... :)

Seeded entry list of East Belgian Rally. Sadly without Loix, but maybe now a more open battle with WRC's and S2000's + GR A cars. And for sure the R2 battle will be again great, Boon in a 208 now, Cherain coming from the 208 cup in France and offcourse 2nd in WRC standings, Neuville in Fiesta R2! Oh yeah also not forgetting Pontus Tidemand, improved alot this year + has experience from last year.

Engine broken according to PT on Twitter. He was 7 secs ahead of Neuville after 7 stages and fastest Fiesta R2. Obviously they just compared to themselves leaving out the Peugeots 208 which seems to be quite much faster than Fiesta R2: s at the moment.

I must say that Neuville was very impressive, especially when you know that his Fiesta is certainly not the best one around. Also Tindemand was very nice to watch and also very fast, he was in front of Thierry, but Thierry lost about ten seconds compared to Pontus on stage 3, but i don't know why.
Overall very nice rally with the most beatifull roads of Belgium and a deserved win for good old Patrick Snijers, alltough Kobus was maybe the fastest driver in the rally, but he lost about half a minute on first stage with a mistake at the end of the stage. Also Sturbois was going very well, but went of the road on stage 11.
Battle between Pugs 208 R2 was very nice to watch but it must be said that Cherain was very fast right away. Someone that i need to mention is Stephane Hermann who was driving incredible with his old Fiat Punto Kitcar, very very impressive, not only for show but also stagetimes very impressive. ;)
