With this rough stages, it is best to start first? The weather has less importance to the roads, its going to be bad anyway its wet or dry.
Petter has to be first on road, and stay out of trouble...

Guys, she is a girl. Let her drive. Try to be more polite to her. I think you have a lot of others candidates for joking

Being a girl shouldn't make a difference - bit patronising to treat her differently because of her gender. The fact is she hopes to be the first women to compete in the WRC, and she has shown no evidence she's able to. In fact she's not even that good at local level. Louise is a lovely girl but she shouldn't be excused because of who she is. I don't mean to be rude to her, but I rate other drivers harshly too so why should the very slowest one avoid criticism?

uranium
24th May 2012, 18:01
why should the very slowest one avoid criticism?

What's the purpose? Is she manufacture driver? Are you her sponsor? At least her fan?
She is privateer and does what she wants. Rent a rally car and show how it should be to drive fast

So should none of us have an opinion? Really winds me up when people say 'show you can do better' - no I won't because I don't pretend I'm a rally driver! Just because she's better than me doesn't mean she's good. And loads of people on here criticise JML and Petter for crashing, Wilson for being slow, Nobre for being... well, himself etc. So surely it's only logical that questions are asked about the lovely Ms Cook?

Will try to explain from other side.
Take a look e.g.

Charlotte (http://www.nba.com/bobcats)o

Does it mean, that they shouldn't paly in NBA? From your point of view, they deserve only to disband the team.

pettersolberg29
24th May 2012, 18:18
I confess to knowing nothing about Basketball, but no, that's not what I'm suggesting at all. I don't suggest Cook should quit. I suggest she shouldn't pretend she's going to be some kind of revelation to the WRC which is what she seems to try and promote whenever interviewed. Anyone can take part in rallying, however rubbish, but they are allowed to be criticised. Charlotte have as much right to play in the NBA as the top team, but they should accept they're going to be criticised for being awful. Likewise, I support Fulham in the Premiership - they are by no means the best or worst team, but I still criticise them when they do badly. What's wrong with that? Cook is doing badly, so deserves criticism.

Btw, did you pay attanetion to car class difference?

I did indeed. Massive difference between her car and most of the others, but still not good pace. And it's not like this is her first slow event. We're going to have to agree to disagree, but your only basis for an argument seems to be I'm worse than her and her car isn't great, and nothing to actually say 'no, she isn't that bad'!

Just come back from shakedown and ss1.
At shakedown we had a small rain after the first 4 passages. At qualifying works drivers were in a class of their own.But good passages from Novikov at the point we were.Nobres door was opening at shakedown too,but wasn t fixed at ss1....
At ss1 we were with Rallyper at a downhill section at 18km of stage.Nice point suggested and driven to the point by atsiotras :D
Works drivers again at their(higher) level, and some others with (asking for problem) wide lines(Tanak-Neuville-Al Rajhi)
Not impressed at all by Neuvilles drive, but i have to wait till the end to have a safer opinion.Araujo no comment, dont want to make sad JAM.

Before stage 1 we were with atsiotras some friends and Rallyper for a coffee at Waves cafe.Nice to meet you Per,a really nice guy you love to talk about rallies.

It's interesting to see that the lack of posts on the thread (in comparison with the other rounds) is due to the fact that the most common writers are in Loutraki watching the event and cannot post (I assume they would prefer seeing the cars then typing in their cell phones (I would at least...). Feeling jealous for not being able to be part of the crowd close to the cars... Have a great event, guys!

Go Petter!

I did indeed mean she wants to be competitive, and I have full respect for Mouton. She is proof that female drivers can be equal to male drivers, thus rendering the point of Cook's gender irrelevant. But since her there has not been a competitive female driver (correct me if I'm wrong) which is what Cook aims to be. Hopefully she'll make it, but I'd guarantee she won't!

And yes, Go Petter!

Had a good day too! First we tried to reach the finish of the QS, but failed due to a navigation error ;) than went to the spectator point and walked into the stage. Some pretty sick high speed spots!

At the first stage we went for the easy way and got in at the flying finish near Loutraki :) immediately stopped at the last corner of the stage, awesome corner where everybody went really sideways at quite a high speed onto tarmac at the FF.

Now on our way to Thiva jump :)

That seemed very strange. First FIA says it's okey to use it, they didn't recommend it but didn't forbid either, but then on the minute Latvala was checking in at TC at SS1 a FIA official knocks the window and orders him to remove the cushioning. Well handled...

Now it looks Latvala is on too fast pace... At least I'm holding my breath.

Loeb only with one tyre spare - could be interesting in the next stage if any rain comes

How this is possible because if I remember right, regulation says that you have to be two spare tires all the time... I'm not sure but that's what I remember...

No regulations does not state that. 60.9 SPARE WHEELS
Cars may carry a maximum of two spare wheels.
Any complete wheel fitted on the car or installed inside the car during servicing must reach the next service
park or the next area where a Tyre change is authorised. No complete wheel may be loaded on or taken off
the car elsewhere than in the service parks or the areas where a Tyre change is authorised.

Basically you can drive without any spares if the traffic rules allow I think..

Al Rajhi is doing superbly btw:-)

I would'nt put to much in it. Both Mikkelsen and Ogier has a plan for tests this rally. That they are pretty even on pace, is gold for testing purposes.

i get your feeling man. i have been dissapointed by him a lot of times but my Faith still remains. if its loeb you are trying to fight against then you will have to expect misfortunes a lot. loeb is an elian when it comes to rallying. to fight against him you need a lot of risk. petter cannot win against seb on a fair Fight that is for sure. but latvala can do that. he can beat seb without seb being in trouble..

Absolutely, Petter has most stagewins this season, speed is not the problem.

Wonder if the other drivers also has to use a set of soft tyres (or well used hard ones) at a loop in the rally.
How many hard tyres has they got?
Maybe Petters tyre choise yesterday is not to bad anyway?

There is a world of difference being the fastest on stages when you are already 10 minutes behind the leader than when you are competing on level terms with someone who is an 8 times champion. The majority of Petter's fastest stage times this year have been set when the rally winner is in cruise mode. On the other hand JML has set the majority of his stage fastest times from the lead or competing for it. Sorry to be stating the bleeding obvious but the selective use of statistics is one of my particular betes noirs

Now a 2 hour drive for 2x Bauxites before heading back to Thiva :)
About 1 hour with Huyndai Atos 1000cc. :D
you could watch and Elikonas 1 stage before Bauxites 1,if you had left Thiva 1 after Mikkelsen passage. ;)

I can see that, but the single moment in the photo is unique :D in fact it looks like they are pushing him deeper in the ditch :D

p.s. for me its funnier than it looks because recently in a local rally, a turk driver went slightly off in a tight hairpin and people started to push him further (to not block next cars). when he realised that he burnt the clutch but managed to escape on his own :D

so today we didnt managed to see 6 stages, but we watch 5 stages out of 8.We were watching only 16-17 cars.
Rush only from Elikonas1 to Bauxites1 as it was tight.Between Bauxites1 and 2 we spent 2 hours at tavern with some 3 kg of meat potatoes, salads sausages and beers :D
Loeb=mister perfect.really struggling to find even a small ''mistake'' at his lines/brakes/whatever.At Elikonas1 we were watching a fast straight downhill with 6 gear with brakes for a right to left sequent corners and was the only driver that he braked hard with straight steering. All the other drivers they used to slide on brakes left-right before entering the first right corner.
Latvala=Nice driving without errors at least where i was watching, but with wider lines from Loeb
Hirvonen=His style is little bit like Loebs, not as i remembered him at previous Acropolis. Not exactly as Loebs style, but definetely not so wide like Petters or Jaris.
Petter=asking for trouble at every stage i saw.I am impressed he didn t have a ''stone in his road' today with such driving. At Bauxites 2 he clipped a 50cm tall gravel cut while his lines were totally wrong, about 1,5 meter away from Sebs,Jaris,Mikkos lines.
Nasser=most spectacular today by far!! At Thiva2 (video helicopter from wrc.com some posts ago) crazy passage with very wide lines, jumping from side to side.
Novikov= very good,no mistakes,bit wide lines,fast,late brakes.A passage i was waiting to see.
Tanak=some times good, sometimes not so good.
Ostberg=as above at least where i watched him.At Thiva2 he was outside the road about 500 meters before we were watching. We could listen his engine trying to get back on the road for some minutes.
Ogier Mikkelsen very fast, but i have to admit that at most points Ogier was faster in my eye.Mikkelsen was very spectacular at Thiva2
Nice day with plenty of action, good 2 hours miday rest in a very good tavern, and good spectacular points, except Bauxites1 which was a so and so point.

Tomorow i ve planed just 3 stages.Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! :dozey:

Weather for tomorrow.

I have looked all kind of weather data for this part of the world for last couple of hours and it seems that tomorrow might come really terrible day. If everything goes as it looks now, then tomorrow should look like this:

SS10-SS11 dry
SS12 little light rain expected
SS13 moderate rainshowers expected. Maybe hard tires for the first stages are good and couple of softs for the lastone.
Ss14 Very high possibility of very, very, very heavy rainshowers, almost like in Portugal
ss15 Still some rainshowers is in the meny
SS16 heavy rainshowers, very high possibility
SS17 Showers should have been finished but the roads are still very wet
Currently looks like a secion for soft tires

Temperature tomorrow will be between +16..+21 in the stages.

Sunday morning looks to be clear and rainshowers for the last 3 stages.
So, ideal tyre choice looks like this:
saturday morning 2 softs 4 hard
Saturday afternoon 4 softs
Sunday morning two hards
Sunday afternoon 4 softs.
I think that 10 softs were allowed?
But you newer know. Rainshower may hit the stages very heavly, at the same time they can miss the stages by a few meters:-)

Good rally for Novikov so far. Consistently 'best of the rest' and the only one to come near the top 4 in terms of stage times. Beating Ostberg regularly has to be his aim for this season, and maybe one podium through pace alone if he's ambitious?

I want to add that yesterday he suffered from: loosen steering wheel; broken gear lever and dismounted turbo pipe. All this after the loosen rear suspension in Argentina. I dont know how he can be calm enough to continue driving after this.
