The sad thing is if Mikko wins the championship in the way that i said in my last post above, it would only really be down to the team orders on the last 3 rallies, so not a true champion really.

Looks like M-sport found some extra speed in the Fiesta? Neither of the 3 Citroens is keeping up with the people they were beating without problems for last half a year? (Loeb-Hirvonen, Ogier-Latvala, Solberg-Ostberg)

Mikko Hirvonen could still win the championship if he wins the rally and if Loeb finished 2nd, but Mikko would have to win the power stage and for Loeb to finish 4th or lower on the power stage.

nothing like that....Ford gave orders to Latvala to stay behind hirvoen the whole rally and Loeb is playing it safe...thus the difference.

Loeb is a 2009 team-order champion.
Citroen team orders in Poland (Novikov and Rautenbach ordered to drop 20 minutes) and Spain (Sordo leading on saturday before being told to slow down) helped Loeb.
Fords missing team orders in Sardinia hurt Hirvonen.
There's no "justice" in the sport, team orders just happen.

Exactly.
Once Latvala had no chance of title M-Sport had no real choice in this TEAM sport but to favour Mikko to the end of his chance to win the title.
You may not like team orders, and I don't like them, but this is the way the sport is - Ford do not put millions in to not try and get every point. Citroen is no different

Hi,
I have just registered here in order to make a plea to any fans who may currently be spectators in the Corris area or who plan to attend other venues.
Earlier today I sent the following email message to Stephan Tibbetts ---
" Dear Sir,
I live in the village of Corris Isaf - my house is in the centre of the village.
Last night we were kept awake by a series of loud bangs and, as this persisted well into the early morning (at least 3 am), I eventually got dressed and and went out in order to to see if I could locate the source of this disturbance.
Looking eastwards across the valley, through the trees, I could see a stream of car headlamps moving up the forestry track which leads from Evans Bridge so I assume that this noise was connected with the rally.
Whether this was caused by by the fans or the teams setting up, I do not know but I somehow doubt it was the latter as in the past, when I have acted as a safety/access marshal for various manufacturers teams (Citroen, Subaru etc,) when they have held private testing sessions locally, they always seemed to set up very efficiently and quietly.
Could I suggest you investigate this matter with some urgency.
As a lifelong motorsport fan, I feel it would be sad to see events such as the the Wales Rally GB banned from areas like ours - some local people complain about rally noise during daytime hours (there will always be a few) and to have this kind of disturbance during the night could lead to such a ban being suggested.
Best wishes,(etc.) "
Since writing the above I have learned, from a local delivery man, that the cause of the disturbance was (and still is!) rally fans letting off fireworks.
I am amazed by this information as I sure most REAL rally fans will be. This is a real concern for me not only because I have lost a few hours sleep but, as I indicted in my email, some locals are already unhappy about the (minor, IMO) disruptions to daily life caused by the rally and this kind of behaviour will only antagonise them further and may cause the 'powers that be' to refuse access permission in the future.
So, my plea is - if you are currently a spectator and you are responsible for this stupid behaviour, please desist. Despite what you may think, some of us country folk do have to work and need a good nights sleep.
If nothing else, consider the future of this great sport and try to avoid any actions that may put it at risk.
Dave.

just came back from work.Driving at home i received a mms from Tolis about Mikkos retirement.I feel really sorry for him but was his choice.
When at the whole year you are not brave enough to fight for a win,its impossible to do it properly at last round.Specially when you have Loeb against you.
Loeb fights at EVERY rally for the win.It is something he is used to do not only for this year but for his whole career. The totally different from Mikko.
Another point is about my friend...Quesnel :D
I was screaming for his !@#$% decisions even from 4th rally this year.
he was patronising Ogier against Loeb while Loeb was way higher in points.
Could you imagine if Psa head hadn t try to keep Loeb under Citroen flag?
Quesnel will continue to push Ogier over Loeb, and at last 2 rallies Ogier would have loose a 100% Citroens manufacture championship. He hadn t got even speed, like today.
Ok Ogier is probably the next big driver not only from france but even for wrc.But he is simply not ready enough yet, to take at his shoulders a number 1 at Citroen.
Or if you like, not at the time Citroen could have Loeb.
I really can t remember when was last time Loebs wasn t fast enough to fight for a win.
Tanak is impressive with D-macks.I am sure that with Michelins he would be much more faster.
Nikara also impressive, but always something happens. What was his problem of delay at last stage?
Novikov still comments...'' i want to finish the rally''.Pitty.
Ostberg seems likes the loose surfaces better.
ps just now i saw Ogiers exit video.Clearly driver error. He drove over the kerb at the right corner and tried to correct without success.

Ford Abu Dhabi team principal Malcolm Wilson said: “It’s devastating to go out in an incredible battle with Sebastien Loeb. We will try to fix the car but it does look like there’s too much damage to the engine. I believe the damage is already done, but our main priority is to get him back here and out again tomorrow. It’s a huge disappointment for the whole team after getting back into the championship fight again and then sadly losing it on the first day of the event.”

Whats there to LOL about? D***heads like those fans (and i suspect NOT too?) have done lot of harm to rally internationally. I have been small part of organising team of one local event for 10+ years, and no matter how much we spend on security, there are always few idiots who drink too much and just have to prove to all how big a**holes they can be. Because of that we have lost event sponsors who do not want to be associated with inevitable bad publicity, we have brilliant stages which we can not use because locals do not want those idiots around any more etc etc. I believe any TRUE fan of sport should do everything possible to prevent few idiots to cause trouble because this harms us more than them. Those idiots usually come to event to party and have "fun", even if it means drinking through night and missing all stages during day - rally is secondary for them anyway.
So nothing to LOL about, this is very serious topic indeed.

Mikko Hirvonen says he remains hopeful of returning to the Rally GB stages tomorrow, despite his early retirement from the event this morning.
The Finn was forced out of the rally after a branch pierced the radiator on his Ford Fiesta RS WRC when he spun on the first run through Dyfnant this morning.
Hirvonen and his car have now returned to the service park in Builth Wells, where the team are inspecting the damage to the front of the #3 machine.
"It's not sure that we can't restart yet," said Hirvonen. "And I would want to go back out tomorrow. It would be good to get back out there and drive again.
"What has happened is, obviously, really disappointing, but let's see what is happening with the car."

He told WRC.com: “It was very tricky in the morning and the grip level was changing quite a lot. On one braking [point] it was very slippery and I was too fast into the next corner. There was a big slide and the rear touched the bank. I spun and it pulled the front of the car into a bank where there was a tree stump. The wood came through the radiator. There was no real damage but we lost all the water in the engine. We carried on for five-six kilometres but that was it.”

just watched the clip there, he is lucky didnt do more damage.
Regarding bad luck on rallys, would I be right in thinking McRae retired from '93 GB after puncturing his rad on an over-enthusiastic but deliberate cut?

Shoot..why they are doing such stages where some drivers have to drive in dark and some have privilege to do it in daylight... And with the fog.. I assume the difference can be veeery huge. A few days ago I had to drive on my country road in a very thick fog and my friend followed me. He asked me if i am completely crazy to drive so fast on such a conditions.. well I drove by my memory, because I have done this road hundreds and hundreds of times.. but on stages you have done couple of times before.. crazy indeed

Fog is random and cant be planned for(on coming trafic on your local road also random, you were IMO silly and lucky..)
Also in UK at the moment there is limited daylight hours, unrealistic to try and not have cars run in poor light
Well done to Loeb, hopefully he pushes on a bit tomorrow

I just wanted to say that it would have been good idea to start the stage maybe half hour later. Then everybody have the darkness and more similar conditions. Fog during the daylight is not as bad as it is during the night. The fog and darkness and GB, those words belong togehter in my mind. But coctail where you give daylight to some drivers and darkness to the others should be avoided in the future.

It's always been the way in rallying, and it always should be.
It does not happen often that I think you are wrong, but now it happened ;-) It is not correct that lets say first 5-6 cars according to their strating position from the first day can enjoy daylight with fog and cars behind them fall into darkness with fog. Gaps in top 10 change too drastically without any proper reason. That is normal that non priority drivers often have to finish in darkness but when the cars, lets say P1 and P2, who are actually fighting for the positions in top 10 are having diffrent conditions just because stage was started a few minutes too early. It can be avoided easily.

Agree completely - for two days Meeke has had to do the final stage in the twilight compared to the cars in front of him having daylight. Driving in twilight is much worse than daylight or full darkness.........

What is important is:
"Qu'avez-vous pensé des performances d'Hirvonen depuis le début de ce rallye ?
S. L. : Il a été là, et même surprenant de vitesse, alors qu'il était régulièrement dominé par Latvala cette saison. Ça fera un bel équipier l'an prochain, et une belle bagarre interne. "
