Will the GT cars do the whole rally with FIA cars ? Can they count for 2WD championship or are they not homologated by the FIA ?

They will run whole rally but only in national classification because they are nor FIA R-GT cars but national GT class.

Right, packing my things for an overnight journey on Tuesday / Wednesday to be ready for Historic shakedown. Can anyone with local knowledge indicate where I could photograph a really deep cut on any of the event stages (have a 600mm telephoto).Last year all the hairpins and 90s I went to were all 'on the black stuff'.
Thanks, really good info will entitle the informant to a beer on Friday evening in the Market Sq ;)

Yes, i was there both days of the test, in Comines and in Alveringem. They did good job if you ask me, now it will up to friday to see results of this testing work. ;)
Damn we could have meet then :p , I was there the whole day..

@Pluto: If I understand correct he never had the full budget? If that's true it's really ridiculous that the organisation promoted it so much!

About the startlist, there will be probably another startorder ..

It went almost very wrong yesterday in Wervik! YouTube - ‪GEKO Rally van Wervik‬‏ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwhckp9vdOE&feature=feedu)

Short version of the incident. Let's hope for some bad weather in Ypres, this might make the rally very interesting!

Turbo Magazine :: Ypres : Lara Vanneste ŕ la droite de Pieter Tsjoen (http://sport.turbomagazine.be/news_FR_7314_Ypres_Lara_Vanneste_a_la_droite_de_Pi eter_Tsjoen.html)
Lara Vanmeste will replace Eddy Chevaillier as navigator for Pieter Tsjien. Chevaillier is out for months due this back injury in the Acropolis rally

rough translation:

Eddy Chevaillier injured, Pieter Tsjoen had to quickly find a replacement for next weekend. In fact, it will be a replacement since it is the lovely Lara Vanneste which will support the six-time champion from Belgium aboard the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 colored Structo. The young woman becomes a little joker deluxe Dutch pilots since has replaced Fred Miclotte (held in Greece) to the right of Freddy Loix in tests Skoda private driver to Ypres.Dominique Bruyneel first registered with the Peugeot 207 S2000 NCRS, Lara Vanneste French will hand over to Jean-Charles Deschamps, Bruyneel old accomplice in France Rally Championship on Earth.

Neuville looks fast and aggressive on the tests. Without problems of car, driver or tyres I am sure he has the speed to win this rally.

Any tests of Rossetti or Proton planned?

Herbold tested today in Luxemburg, Wevers Sport and Skoda Motorsport with Kopecky and Mikkelsen in Belgium. That were probably the last tests because recce is coming now. Rossetti has not so much budget so testing was probably impossible.

Patrik Sandell's reasons for not doing Ypres -“Given that we've had two quite disappointing rallies in a row there’s a pressure on us now to start delivering,” explained Sandell. “So we have to look closely at the upcoming events and focus on the ones where we think we are most competitive. We simply have to favour results rather than learning. It is not optimal, but that’s the reality.”

It's a pity this has happened but I understand it a bit that he did it. Ypres is just in the mid of seasons where some drivers evaluate their program and sometimes they changed it and can't start in Ypres because of obvious reasons :( .

Btw I liked the article a lot from Autosport.cz about the priority list. I hope Pluto can ask Bryan about his Fia A and get a reasonable answer!

RS
20th June 2011, 14:39
Good, honest quote from Sandell. I think points would have been difficult for him in Ypres. I do expect him to be much closer to the front on the gravel....

Juho has got infinitely better on tarmac over the last couple of years, but I still dont see him as an equal tarmac-gravel driver, whereas Andreas is progressing equally on both gravel and tarmac which should set him up well for a couple of years.

Are you serious?

I actually see Juho as 55% tarmac and 45% gravel driver...

Maybe at the moment it's bit up to the car also, because Fabia Evo 2 is excellent on tarmac but not as perfect on gravel.

“It was a fourth-gear left-hander about a third of the way into the stage where he went off. There was damage to the front-right of the car. It was the same place where Kris Meeke crashed in 2009. It’s hard to say but there was a bit of a wait before the start and maybe he got caught out by being on cold tyres.”

Yes, I think the same... Mikkelsen still has to prove his skill on tarmac. He is quick, no doubt, but he needs to record some podiums now!

I'm not saying Andreas is a better tarmac driver than Juho, just that due to his early experiences on tarmac, he has a great chance to be a great tarmac driver. He's obviously not there yet, but he has the potential and technique and early experience to be much better on tarmac than the majority of Scandinavian drivers in my opinion. Not many others have had such experience by the age of 23 have they?

Really? I'll bow to superior knowledge, but from what I've seen he's a far better gravel driver - at least until the last 2 years anyway. Like I say, his improvement has been massive so maybe I'm wrong on Juho. I still think that if he was in the WRC, he'd challenge much higher on gravel than on tarmac though - just my personal opinion.

Had a nice shakedown, couldn't take action pics :( never had a good place on the stage for that and with a regular camera impossible to shoot good pics then..

Talked with Maciek Baran, Andreas who wanted to do alot of runs because he felt not confident about the setup yet. The English announcers are very flustered since the arrivals are now out of order and didn't match their start list, either. I thought Neuville would not be able to keep pace with Loix and crash but didn't think it would be so soon. He's so late now the problem must be worse than a puncture.

Very bad for the competition.....3 of the big players (include Kopecky) are already out from the 1 st stage....I think if Neuville & Mikkelsen want to go for the WRC seats since some more of them will be available in the next 2 years they must first of all
learn to control their aggresiveness and stop having so many punctures.....It is obvious that the last few years factory teams
are taking very seriously the matter of not making punctures.....

Integrale
25th June 2011, 00:14
SS5 was neutralized after big accident - i think with one of the meganes (number 36 or 37) - in beginning of the stage.

Day 1.. I knew it. I knew I had to go to SS1 to get to see ALL the cars. Last year, I stood at the beginning of a stage and saw Sarrazin hitting a pole in a really stupid way. And we all remember the first corner of Duval in Ypres 2009. But.. this time around, Ypres chopped even more fiercely. Neuville, I just saw the onboard footage, outright unlucky. Although the guy is 22 years old, I think he knows a rally isn't won in the first few corners. Mikkelsen on the other hand.. A bit optimistic. But during the rest of the day I couldn't stop thinking: how fast would Neuville have passed here?

On to SS3, Langemark, close to home base. Close call for an impressing Wilks, in a very dirty third gear right hander with a big cut. Anticipated, but too late and almost slid against a bridge through the rubble. Loix blindingly fast, nice passes from Rosetti and Herbold too.

SS5 was a very long fast section with treaturous bends and cuts. Also in Ypres, the topography is very important. Sometimes you can't see the fast turn you are actually braking for. Or vice versa, fast sections downhill can be very intimidating, as I heard Andersson say on the local radio after the finish: "I am scared of this stage." :p Anyway, Wilks very fast and under control, Basso with a little moment and Cherain (with the Megane) had quite a few fifth gear snaps..

Loix: If he hasn't got technical problems, he wins, experience is very important and he knows how to keep his speed in all turns. Anyone can shift a car to fourth gear, it's keeping the speed in the fast sections.
Wilks: Certainly has good speed, hope he can up the pressure
Bouffier: Expecting something from him too. A bit early in his braking.
Tsjoen: In a very good position, drives smart and doesn't take cuts he doesn't need too to save tires
Weijs: Fluent lines and for his experience with Ypres also very under control,
Casier: Dissapointing for a local, or is it the car, don't know..
Gardemeister: Not good
Snijers: Fast old fox, never was a fan but I really like the sound of that Mini. I just don't want to look, that thing is hideous :)
Rossetti: Actually, he's really driving fast..
Abbring: Mindboggling!

Big day tomorrow, almost certainly another caroussel :p

I think it is mistake because VdHeuvel was much slower and he has been way fastest Evo driver so far.

Also until now Langenakens and Martin were quite a big margin behind Abbring...and suddenly they would become way faster on the 24km long stage and overtake him in leaderboard ??? Quite hard to swallow :mark:
