I havn't attended a rally before but as it is nearby was going to head up to the state forest and take a look at the Welshes stage from the adjacent state forest with a mate. I was expecting a similar setup to the NW200 where you can purchase grandstand seating or just find yourself a spot around the track. Looking on the net however it looks like they want you to fork out a small fortune to view from only a couple of select locations. I understand why you cannot trek onto private property to view the rally, but so long as you're in a safe location surely they cant stop you viewing from public land (state forests/national parks) can they? The roads are open up to the track area according to the rta. Are we not allowed to park and walk into the forest?

Though Paddon may choose to secure points and/or the title and let brendo and nathan battle for the win. I think there's always going to be an element of this when you're in Hayden's position whether you set out on that path or not.

How is these ss1 and ss2 driven because there is now times also in SS2 and it supposed to be same stage?

Could they use something similar to FRC Hämeenlinna with first 20 something cars going through SS1 and then they coming back to start and stage continues with every other car being SS1 and every other SS2? Good for spectators, I think.

Rally Hokkaido
8th September 2011, 10:45
How is these ss1 and ss2 driven because there is now times also in SS2 and it supposed to be same stage?

This is normal procedure when there are two passes of a SSS. The Organisers mix up first time cars with second pass cars to keep things running smoothly and yes it is good for the spectators

I think it's to save time of the crews. Now they have two runs in 15 minutes. Otherwise they would be there for much longer time.

The super special stage is a load of bull. People have to wait half hour to cross the track, there is at least a kilometer to walk to get to a few good corners to photograph and for spectators to get To the "grandstands"!!!

yeah it was stupid.. i was stuck on the wrong side of the road, and as a result I couldnt take any pictures as it was the wrong side for lighting!
That and I had to park like 3km away from the SSS as the roads were all closed for like 4 blocks before the jetty.

I think I will just go and have dinner the next two nights. SSS is not worth it.

I actually wonder what the drivers think of it.. As they are coming down to the tight twisty bit at the southern end, if you are car 2 or 3, then you blinded turning into the right hander with the car infronts headlamps. You could clearly see some drivers braking more than usual or taking two bites into the corner because they just couldn't see.

I am sure that if you ask here, you will be told that kangaroos are on Citroen payroll and are only allow to jump in front of non French driver or car.

PS: Kangaroo were convinced to work for Citroen, because Citroen promised them they will spike the French Rugby team food in the event they have to face Australia (which prove that Kangaroo are not very smart: Australia does not need that to beat France in Rugby)

For your info it is the Wallabies that are playing in the current Rugby Union World Cup and we don't have to worry about spiking any one's food in either Rugby code, you must be thinking of the South Africans in 1995 Rugby Union World Cup.

It's important as I'd picked him for my fantasy rally team thinking Haydon would take it easy on this one to ensure a good finish. Clearly taking it easy is not in his DNA, Kosciuszo is no slouch but he isn't in the same ballpark as HP. Hopefully JK can do super rally if they fix whatever went wrong on SS3 and still score good points (he has a stage win which helps my points score :)

Rally Australia, well, more like a destruction derby. Loeb making a mistake , but with that Ogier should then have reigned back in a brought it home with a podium finish. To crash is just dumb. So Ford are left in the lead, probably the only way they can win events nowadays.

What this event has shown is the lack of competition - the two Fords seperated by a handful of seconds, the 40+ to Petter Solberg, and over 2 minutes to Henning, after only one day. Just more ammunition to people who mock the series.

It's not decided yet. Looking how slippery Day 1 stages were, if it continues in the same manner (how's the weather?), anything can happen - though of course less can happen in a cruise mode.

I don't know what happened to Ketomäki, but anyway it's a big shame. For a privateer driver like he is, getting to Australia is a major effort, even with a rent car.

To be expected, Ford tries to "spy" on any weakness on the roll-cage or any wrongdoind at the other aspects of the service allowances so to lobby to the FIA for possible exclusion and Citroen pulls up the curtain to hide the car.

As for the rest of the rally, only if it is dry for the next days (unlikely already Saturday is predicted wet) and if Petter and his privateer car can gain any advantage from road position will see any competition. If not, the rally is already settled, the gaps are too big and the Ford duo are instructed to finish at all costs in a particular order.

Note: Michelin once more got it wrong, This time not with the design of the tyre itself but with the choice. You go to any country on the winter season you bring if not wet tyres (not allowed) at least the soft tyres. What a stupid company, they delibarate design fast but fragile tyres on gravel and asphalt because they got afraid of chinese DMACK which are without any first class driver-car whatever and now they went on the opposite extreme of being too conservative with totally unsuitable tyres. Might as well next year go to Sweden with standard road tyres instead of snow "we know it looks unsuitable but all are in the same ballpark is the same for everyone" :facepalm

I like Hirvonen.
I like Latvala.
I like Ford.
I'd love Finnish 1-2 finnish.
I'll understand why they do it.

But I still hate it.

i think all true rally blooded fans hate it.But its a part of the game.We have to accept it.Today was Ford tomorow will be Citroen.
By the way like that both championships are tighter. Its good to see the next episode of dogfight between Sebs while Fords are close.Pretty interesting!

my guess is that in rally france team orders are going be applied very early like in Germany if the Citroens take the lead...I wouldn't be surprised if they actually say to ogier he cannot win there since the manufacturer title is so close and the difference to Loeb above 20 points...lets see.

That's typically French, no one should see and know what they are doing. Okay I know this long time but nobody wants to know that here at the rally fans.

Wow what a load of crap. Were you at Rally Australia when one of your Ford boyfriends pushed me over because I tried to take a picture of the underside of the new Focus WRC in 2005 and were working on them inside tents the whole time so no one else could see? I took photos of the Xsara WRC and a mechanic ran up to me and asked me politely not to take photos of the underside of the car.

Really, what's your problem with Citroen and French people?

in Germany didn t choosed the driver who finished first at day1? If so the winner must choosed before the rally.Today they visit the countryside at first day.The inside battle have cost them a lot of points till now,and they are very lucky with this situation they haven t any more dnfs.As we saw today when pushing specially at circumstances like this, everything can happen, even at Loeb.

Was anything so broken on Loeb's Citroen it couldn't be tipped back on its wheels and continue? I'm just remembering all the times Sainz managed to roll in Australia before finally killing his Celica in the early 90s.

I watched the onboard earlier today and don't remember seeing any spectators to do the job, and propably there were something too damaged.

Loeb is 23 minutes behind Kosciuszko and Ogier 13 minutes behind.
in case that we dont have any retirements(difficult at these circumstances, but just a scenario)only Ogier can manage points from finishing into points.I think that he can reach 6th position.Loeb can t without a LOT of retirements.
i have calculate a speed difference with Kosciuszko n4 car about 4sec/km.
We have about 245 ss km more.

Very hardly that we can see Loeb in points. Big mistake from citroen management. Now ford guys will close very good. Only power stage can repair situation.

What complete BS. In Australia in 2005 one of your Ford friends pushed me over when I tried to take a picture of the underside of the new Focus..... they also serviced the car in tents for the whole rally so on one could see any details of the car.

But then again that wouldn't suit your rampant anti-French view would it?

yes but there is no hope for them...realistically speaking its a disgrace for the ford team to be able to lead a rally after only the two top citroens retire....and if conditions are dry tommorow i would like to see how Solberg reacts and also if the Ford guys can open the road without any mistakes.
