Υes, super performance by Vovos after his accident at the end of last year.
Vovos will do only gravel rallies this season with the exception of Halkidiki Rally for ERC in which he will do both days (tarmac and gravel). So far no plans for S2000. Evo9 until the summer (Focus WRC 07 - Munchi's, for Acropolis) and most probably Evo10 after it gets its homologation.

the first round of the greek rally championship took place the pas tweekend, winner as expected was Vovos and showed he still hasn't lost his speed on gravel after his horrific accident last season. Vovos will not follow the tarmac rallies only the gravel ones this year.

Bad news. This means that there is only one strong contender for the title,Benik :( .

I'd say, that Spici,Turán and Herczig are also very strong opponents and Érdi jun. will drive a Fabia, so it's not a one-horse race!

No Tom, it wasn´t an April fool. The weather forecast for the week-end is not very good. Porto Santo is small island very close to Madeira, and the only way to go there, is by plane or by Ferry. An that is the problem, the ferry boat can experiment some problems to make the trip..and the organizers do not want to take some risks....
The rally was delayed by one week.

It a battlefield there, the sand tracks are verry bad that so off the drivers did only the 3 tarmac stages and then retire.

Yesterday was the sprint and only 31 from 70 cars made it to the finish.WRC cars didn´t started that day.

First event of Czech sprint rally championship (one day long rally), rally Vyskov, 18th-19th April, knows it's entry.

There are 137 crews! Among them Jan Kopecký and Lubomír Minařík with Fabia Kit Car, Josef Peták and Roman Odložilík with 207 S2000, Karel Trněný with Fabia WRC or Slovak Igor Drotár with Octavia WRC. There is of course a lot of Mitsubishis as it is usual in our Coutry. The leading names are Josef Semerád, Jaroslav Orsák, Jan Sýkora, Zdeněk Vlček or Jan Jelínek. There are also some nice group A cars as ex-factory Celica GT-4 ST205 and two Escorts RS Cosworths.

Official website:
http://www.rallyvyskov.cz/rallyvyskov/index.htm

Here is provisional entry list (not complete in the moment):

There are 8 stages of 83 km. Here is timetable:

It was a great move by him. He didn't want to damage the Focus on this really bad roads (mixed surface stages). So he sent technicans home to get the Corolla over night to the event.

His team-mate R. Kuipers with the other Focus drove the first three stages (tarmac) and parked the car after this, because stages 4 and 5 included sandy gravel roads.

They need both cars in perfect condition for the next ERC round on April 18th/19th

Loix in an 106 Maxi???

Yes he is doing a favour to the organisers, who helped him out in the past concerning testtracks. They used to take care to close some public roads, so that Loix could do testruns on them. You have to know that in Belgium that is not so obvious, because you have to warn local government, police, fireguard etc... :( They asked him in the past allready if he could do their rally (Komen) as a driver and Loix promised he would do so if they got him a car. As he is only allowed to drive Peugeot, this was the car that came up. It is not a bad car, but nothing special, so it is just for fun. His codriver will be Kurt Declerq, who was sitting with Loix allready a few years ago in Ypres, when he was driving the C2 S1600. :p :

It will be interesting to see what can Loix do in a 106 Maxi.

I don't think that for a good driver night is limitating that much to be slower than a lower class. For example last week on rally Sumava they were doing totaly same times on the stages in day or night. On two stages Kresta was even faster in the dark than in the daylight.

For you, but not for me. :( Jan Kopecký is only 9th, Karel Trněný 11th and Igor Drotár already retired in SS1 with his beautiful Octavia WRC. What happened with them?

Mirek
20th April 2008, 00:01
Drotár had a gearbox failure after 3 kms of SS1. But he said he should compete in complete Czech sprintrally championship :)

Trněný had some hydraulic problems on first section (differentials and shifting). He had also one off to the field. He was very dissapointed and said they only cruised through the last stages.

Kopecky said he took it easy, not to make a mistake with his 2WD. He even didn't know his possition after last stage because he had no opponent in 2WD cars and had almost no chance against the fast 4WD :) First section was partly wet, second mostly dry and third completely wet and mudy and since there are some gravel parts on the stages it is not easy with 2WD...

Peták made two spins on SS1. Odložilík and Semerád were out on stage 7 (both hit the same bridge as Firla on the photos below). They both had intermediate tyres but it was completely wet and muddy. On the opposite side Peták was driving on cutted tyres even on those dry stages :)

Thanks all, the Bosch Rally was a fast rally and both VW Polo's run with different gearing, it worked better for Andreas Waldherr who drove a super rally and was never really in threat by any other drivers, a good result after the bad weekend we had in Belgium, Both cars run like a clock from start to finish, with only Kris Rosenberger having a scare when his car was stuck in Reverse gear before a regroup 2 stages from the finish but lucky for him it was at the entry of the service park so we could fix it.... we are still in 3rd place in the championship and all is looking good... :) .. and ps: the Austrians know how to celebrate a victory.... :D

153 crews are on the entry list of second round of Czech Rallysprint Champioship - Rally Luzicke hory. Rally take place next week, that is 17th May. The rally is a part of Lausitz Cup. Unfortunately this year without Olaf Dobberkau with his Porsche who was the one to watch last year. Stages are situated just at the German and Polish border.

Entry list: http://www.frog-frog.cz/LuzickeHory/_CZ/info/seznamPrihlasenych.pdf
Official website (Czech, English, German and Polish): http://www.frog-frog.cz/LuzickeHory/HomeFrms.htm

Rally contains 6 stages (2x3) of 73 competitive kilometers, 10% is gravel, 90% tarmac. From the favourites 2 WRC with Drotár and Trněný, 1 S2000 with Peták and from the large number of production cars for example Trojan and Semerad.

Although Trojan won the stage, by far most spectacular driver on stage was Gassner junior. First stage was only for spectators fun, 3 laps of fine gravel drifts on speedway circuit. Tomorrow real stages are coming.

Bdw can someone translate Pech`s opinion about rally. Only thing I understand is that he has great respect for very demanding and technical stages...

Mirek
9th May 2008, 21:37
He says:

We are after recce. It is beautiful warm weather here. For us Czechs the stages are very difficult because they are still corner-to-corner-like on a narrow road. Interesting thing is that there is a gravel part on every stage which makes it very changeble in rhytm. But we love the stages and the others Czech crews as well. It is very difficult to understand several different types of tarmac when especialy one is very slippy. We need to learn the local knowleadge of the slippery places in all the long rally. The super special stage will be a big fun as it is on a gravel speedway and we are looking forward to it.

After the first real day in Saturnus rally,
Vaclav Pech is leading with a comfortable lead of 45 seconds in front of Hermann Gassner in second and Tomaz Kaucic in third.Pech was fast all day and he was VERY attractive, while Gassner was in his normal fast but extremely unattractive style. The only main retirement was Jaroslav Orsak.
He went off the road at a gravel section, almost no damage to the car.I spoke to him and he said that he was oversteering too much at a corner and he tried to correct the car when he went off the road with his last wheels. Then he simply slid off.
Tomorrow will be 6 more stages.

Results after 1. leg of rally Saturnus:
http://on-line.rally-saturnus.si/ss_leg1.htm

From 84 starters only 49 managed to finished the leg. Quite a lot of retirements (probably most spectacular were Lamonato and Kos-first Lamonato slid off, and then Kos "parked" his yugo on Lamonato`s clio) I hoped more crews will finish the leg. It was beautiful sunny day, a little bit windy and on SS Čeče where I was it was also very dusty so I had mouth full of dust when I went home. But it was a great "circuit" stage (3 laps) , 4wds were awesome on fine downhill gravel hairpins. Pech showed why he is master like he is, I think he adapted quickly to the new stages and is now in commanding lead 45 sec. ahead of Gassner, Kaučič (who slowed in second part of leg because of tiredeness), Peljhan and others. I was surprised by Orsak being on 5th place (he wasn`t looking so fast), but then he sadly crashed on last stage of the day.

Hope for another great rallying day tomorrow and keeping fingers crossed for Pech to secure his first win on slovenian soil.

Lamonatos and Kuss crash was nasty, they ended way down and picked up a few trees by the way.Im glad they are both OK.The gravel part was really tricky,6 teams retired on the first 3 corners of the gravel(Lamonato,Kus,Vidmar,Pisano,Grendene,Orsak)
