Nope, smoking brings in a massive net profit for the country, treating all its ills is a drop in the ocean compared with the revenue it creates. (there are links earlier in the thread if you are one of these dullards that need a link to show them night follows day)
The state does make a small net profit from smoking but it isn't massive.
What makes me wonder is why you're so proud of smokers sacrificing their health and money to subsidise multinational profits.

Is this going to be the "everything is dangerous" train of thought?
I think 'train of thought' is pushing things a bit far.

It is massive, scroll back and check the figures yourself as I cba to prove what I already know.
Is this going to be the "everything is dangerous" train of thought?
Driving fast, drinking alcohol is certainly known to be dangerous and certainly not essential life choices, so do I take that as a 'ye's then?

Go away the grown ups are talking, you go and wreck your own threads rather than spoiling other peoples.

Do you drink or drive fast? (not at the same time of course)
Well, things like that do it for me, its worth the risk, plus I prefer not to get obliterated, just be drunk to the point that everything is awesome
I don't see people going out for Sambuca breaks during the working day though......

But isn't that a bit selfish, you drive quickly even though doing 28mph would be safer for other road users and those around you?
There is nothing healthy about getting drunk even moderately drunk.
Plenty of man hours lost through booze though, least a fag break only takes a couple of minutes a duvet day hung over is an entire 8hrs.

I wouldn't drive like a prick, like people who do 40mph everywhere regardless of the speed limit, and people shoudn't booze up the day before work if they get hangovers that affect their working day seriously.
My health is my choice, and if I'm gonna risk it, it better be worth it (and IMO, tobacco isn't)
I'll stick with alcohol and mary jane (both not very often, and in sensible ish amounts)
What about the time taken thinking about the next ciggie, time possibly spent rolling etc

Don't worry I'm not one of those that pretends to be holier than thou or anything, I speed, I drink, I smoke etc all the time.
Just pointing out that we all do stuff that can and does impinge on others lives whether they want it to or not - just like smokers in pubs.
I'm self employed so any time wasted smoking is my own time ditto getting up late to avoid driving the morning after a session.

I do not smoke and no smoke in the future.
Smoking is harmful to health.

It will be soon but hasn't been ratified yet for the NHS.

You can die pressing a light switch and I think most of us are aware of mortality. Somehow, yellow fingers, brown teeth, exposed cheekbones, and wrinkly lips before the final result of cancer doesn't appeal. You could drive fast and be gone in an instant and smoke fags and be go slowly.
If you did 28mph on the motorway I think you could count the amount of minutes you could stay alive on one hand.
To be honest I've got nothing against smokers and I don't judge people who smoke, I just don't see the appeal.
Putting on lights is an essential part of living, drinking, smoking, speeding etc aren't.
Plenty of non smokers get cancer and die a slow painful death you know, just because one smokes does not mean they will automatically get cancer. Coal is black but that does not mean all black things are coal, see.
Plenty of folk drive too slow on the motorway, usually the types who moan about stuff like second-hand smoke.

Took years of smokers having to fund their own medicines to stop, despite all the tax they had paid, whereas heroine addicts for example got it all for free.
Within the NHS smokers should be treated like royalty.

If you occupy such an important position in the NHS as you claim, why not try to influence its policy to those ends?

Any examples where I have called you a nasty name Bolton?
PS: 'muther funger' is not a real term which was in response to Daniel and it wasn't aimed in an insulting way.. Nice try though.. And saying your arguement (not you as a person) is pathetic is very different to referring to someone as an idiot and a moron. ;)
Who said nasty? Idiot is hardly nasty is it? Unless you're on Newsnight it would seem.
It was aimed at me as I was the only one asking if Daniel was a 12 year old child. And clearly is a cleaned up version of Mutha F. So stop squirming and just admit that yet again you've got it wrong.

Seriously though, with your stance on this thread, you have dragged it into the dirt IMHO. The fact that you only have a few infractions is nothing short of a miracle and testament to the patience of the Mods.
If you want a ban and to sod off for a few months then that's up to you. We have a couple of members that just turn up to cause as much trouble as possible before getting another ban and if you want to do that, then it's pretty cowardly and immature but your choice.
If not, and you want to participate in this forum, then wind it in a bit and treat people like you would in real life.
I think you have a lot to offer the forum. I don't agree with most of what you say but it's a great counterweight to a lot of opinions on here and refreshing. Be passionate, be controversial, be angry but be a bit more intelligent and less insulting eh? ;)

I am merely expressing an opinion — one that hardly seems to be unique.
As I have often said in the past, I am perfectly happy to engage in debate with people of all sorts of viewpoints, but it helps if the manner in which their contributions are made marks them out to be a reasonable individual whose opinions are born out of something more than anger and ignorance.

Well lets agree to disagree then, but every pub/bar in every town I've been to the smoking area was always the busiest part,
Yeah, and usually most people gathering in that area suffer from very low IQ.

You stupid smokers are all so freaking retarded, what right do you idiots have in ruining my health with your stupid addiction.
I love it that smoking has been banned in so many places, great job. Finally I can go to a pub without coming home stinking like I had been in an oven and not having to put up with the disgusting smell of smoke all the time. Awesome, awesome.

Let's not get quite so rude about it. I used to smoke, then gave up. Does that mean I was 'retarded' (not a pleasant term to use) up until the point I stopped smoking? If so, that would be an almost magical transformation.
