I'm excited to see how Pastrana does in the PWRC. I think he'll finish in the middle of the pack with a couple of top3 stage times, which would be a great debut for his international career IMO. The tire lottery will be interesting to see how it plays out as his US team mate will be running as well but not in the PWRC so he will have unlimited tire supplies and options.

Top3 stage times?
Hold on L5, this is WRC event, not North American only.
BTW, why are so optimistic about Pastrana? Is there something I don't know?

I think he means top 3 stage times among the PWRC crews.
Exactly.
I don't think he will set the rally world on fire, but I think he can finish mid pack in the PWRC and maybe put up a couple of top 3 stage times or maybe a class stage win.
He has a couple of advatages and dis advantages. His team has a high altitude testing facility so I imagine he will be very used to how the car will behave at altitude in terms of power and power band. Still he lacks a lot of the experience some of the other runners have so I don't think he can challenge for a class podium.
It will be intersting to see where he ends up though.

I also believe that Pastrana will score some points, there are many P-WRC drivers some are slower than him.

The question that interests me mostly, is that how good is that new Subaru. The best scenario would be a Subaru 1-2 finish, which would totally shake up the rankings. :D

Yeah I'd love 4 different winners from the first 4 events! We can only hope...

Would be great if the season unfolded like it did in 2001. WRC needs a bit of a lift after a rather unspectacular 2006.

I expect the following.
Citroen will win with the C4. Gronholm will be second. Either Petter or Hirvo will be third. Dani will get 4th again. Chris will get some great times then throw it off the road or otherwise damage the car, ruining what could be a great rally for him. Henning or Stohl will therefore get 5th and 6th. PWRC cars will be next, with Wilson somewhere in the top 15-20.
Yes I'm a pessimist as far as Chris goes. Hopefully it will work in reverse and he'll prove me wrong.

When were the video froms? 2006? X Games? 2005?
The time he spent with Colin at the X games really helped him mature to be a more measured and controlled driver, if you can believe that. Look on youtube.com for Ojibwe Rally, or go to rallynation.com and look at the footage of him there. Much less reckless/crash prone.

Despite the wreckless image, Travis has actually been a very consistent and smart rally driver. In fact, over the last year he truly has been "wreck" less.
He has quite an experienced support team behind him who are moving him into WRC competition along a very smart path.
He will likely progess in the WRC to a significant level. How far that is, remains to be seen.
The one thing that impresses me about Travis is his ability to rise to the occassion. Be it the X Games or the Race of Champions, he thrives on being in the spotlight. He is used to being the best in the world at what he chooses to do and he expects to be able to do it.
But then I guess driving a rally car is a lot less stressful that doing double back flips on a motorcyle.

Ok, if you guys say he has progressed I believe you, cause I probably haven't followed him as much. But I'm not incorrect that he was a pretty wreckless driver (in early years). I think PWRC would be a good move for him next year, so he can show his real ability's. Anyway, a new American in the championship would be cool, John Buffum has been long retired :)

Well, driving fast on the strait sections will not gain him a lot. It's all about turning technics, and I don't think Pastrana has them. But in the same time, who knows ........

He used to just drive all out and take lots of risks and try to win by not lifting and taking bigger risks then everybody else. This strategy ended up in a very spectacular crash in 2005 and a handful of wrecked cars in 2006. At the X games something changed, he started driving with a lot more sense of control, being aggressive but not taking risks.
From watching him from 2005 before his crash (the fastest he was driving in 2005) to watching him in 2006 in the second event after the X games. I can tell you he was a lot less agressive (perhaps just not taking extra risks), a lot smoother, and much more controlled (and faster but less spectacular) in the turns.
The man (jeez he is just a year older than me!) is dedicated and determined. I don't know if he is a world beater, or will be, but I think he is a lot better than last year at this point.
What I love is that people in the US/Canada (and to some extent on this forum even) keep wanting to praise him then say a driver who hasn't done a proper rally in 2 years is better.
We will find out in a couple of days. I'm not a Pastrana fan boy, but I think he has skills so I want to see how he stacks up and think he will do pretty well. The better Pastrana is the better it is for the rally in the US.

i think Travis is good by nature. i know I'll get sh!t for it but i think he's got that thing deep inside about it like JML and Mikko and my man Bengue have. I've seen him early on and it's obvious that there has been a maturity about him lately. maybe it was a good talk with mccrae or maybe a realization that to get to the top is going to be harder than what ever anyone tells him, i don't know. all i know is this kid (he's 2 years younger than me) is a Maryland boy and since it has been my adopted home for 12 years and will be until my visa runs out, I'll support his efforts. a friend of mine who is a sponsored skateboarder has been to his house near Annapolis when he first started rallying and he said that besides me, he's never seen anyone who was so into the sport. i wish him well.

Can anyone shed light on Francisco Name's starts. This year's Mexico got both Senior and Junior on the list so it's no problem with identification but I got three other entries for Francisco in 2004-2006 Rally Mexico but without identification as to Junior or Senior.
Given that this years entry details for Senior Name is Peugeot 206 with Felipe Arguelles, exactly the same entry that was made in 2004, I'd be betting that this occasion was Senior too, not Junior as I have it now. But how about 2005 and 2006, details are as follows:
2005 Mexico #71 Francisco Name Jr Horacio Chousal ret. Peugeot 206 A6
2006 Mexico #60 Francisco Name Jr Armando Zapata 21st Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII N4
2005 could have been Senior as well?

I think he's got a good enough head on his shoulders to realize that while he's on top in Rally America, on the world scene, he's just a small fish in a big sea. He knows he has talent, but he's got to be more careful, as to not embarrass himself and American rallying as a whole. But this happens to all the young drivers: they start out fast and reckless, and mature to be real contenders.
I'm predicting a top 8 finish for Travis. It'll be interesting to see if he improves in his next rally.
Also, Ken Block is on the entry list. Not as much talent, but it's a welcome addition. I've never had the opportunity to cheer on an American driver before!

Watching live from the service park, I have some thoughts...
Just think. Now it's 4 pm in Mexico... There're lots of mechanics around Subaru car, worrying about smth... Less people around Citroen cars: no more then 2 persons at the same time. And then Ford... Wow! there's absolutely nobody! Oh, no, no, there's one lonely mechanic cam and went away...
Why do I pay such a big attention to it? Hm... A simple logic: the more someone care about smth, the more they are uncertain about this subject/object. Almost the same thing as in Norway on shakedown: Marcus and Mikko did 2 runs and then had a rest: they were sure in their cars. Seb did a bit more runs, and in the race he was a bit slower than the Fords. And Petter with Chris did lots of runs in the shakedown and then showed almost no pace compared to the top teams. can the story repeat there? Can the thing that Ford team already at rest mean they're prepared on 110%? While Subaru guys again worried about their performance...

Keep your fingers crossed for no punctures! Especially on 2/5 and 17 and 18.

Just over an hour to Super Special start, is that going to be streamed live from the rallymexico site cos I got good service park pix on 4 cams and 2 running promo vids. Hopefully they'll go live on those two.

Hi guys, just got back from stage 2. Had to return to Leon because I have to work on the afternoon (damn job!).
The scoobie looks good so far, but Loeb is closing the gap to Petter and that would make things interesting for the rest of the afternoon.
We managed to see Nasser Al-Attiyah's wrecked car before the end of SS2. By the looks of it it was a spectacular crash... I'll upload some pics in a few moments.
Cheers from Leon!
