"The last three group it was not so bad but I was still losing a lot of time. I can't do so very much , I am very low in the classification, I cannot win the rally."

As much as it's a shame for Petter to go out on the first day of the rally, it is encouraging that he retired from the lead position because it means the car has the necessary speed to lead again. With a new car it's always difficult to know if everything is going to hold together when you start punishing it under the full stress of an event. Let's hope the Subaru engineers can fix whatever broke and give Petter some more miles on the stages tomorrow.

Also nice to see Sordo perform again... N.O.T... I've seen you've really enjoyed that fact aswell :D

Just watched the video on YouTube and wow, what a roll from Henning. For a split-second I thought he was going to get away with it and then I immediately thought he was going to end up down the embankment on the outside of the corner. He was really lucky to lose a lot of the speed when he went onto 2 wheels.

When I saw the marshal waving his red jacket to warn of Henning's stranded car, I thought Carlos Sainz would come round the corner. :p :

Good coverage

That's a shame for Henning, was there too much damage to continue? ;( Seemed the spectators weren't too quick to help and nobody running up the stage to wave the next car down  Took about 1:10 for them to get back into the car so say 1:30 to get going again, pretty close if he'd lost time earlier in the stage..

Didn't look to be too much damage though (except Cato's door handle ;) ), maybe also the front left when it's going back over again?

Hi all,
it is really unfortunate for Petter. Nothing more to say about this. You don't have to be a fan of him to feel sorry for the guy.
If we remember, he retired with the exact same problem in Monte Carlo 2005, which was the debut for this ill born Impreza. And now again.
Damn it.

It might be a good idea, in countries without really large english speaking populations, for the drivers to atleast learn "help me" in the local dialect.

I bet if Henning got out shouting "ayudame ayudame" insetad of "help, come help, come help" the locals would have been quicker to respond.

I though your man was Joseph ??

Anyways... interesting theory. I have to admit all these Pastranas and Blocks are new faces to me. I have secretly been waiting for someone to come out of America to rallying scene. I hope them good and it sure will be interesting to see how they cope to real rallying. If they are serious about it they will be humble and ready to learn. :)

Ken and Travis are very humble, and very willing to learn. They were definately taken back by the skill and speed displayed by Toshi, Kristian and Nasser in Shakedown and testing.

Keep in mind, they've never run on real pace notes before. Whether you are a "fanboi" of Travis and Ken or not, you have to hand it to them and Subaru of America/DCShoes on the effort($$) they are putting forth.

They compete against some good talent in R-A (Foust, Pinker, O'Sullivan, ACP, Choiniere) that has been "passed over" simply because of age and means.

In any event, Go Travis & Ken!

We know that Sordo had particular problems with the snow. And I can buy that Focus was clearly better in Norway with particular conditions. But yesterday Sordo's pace in repeated stages was astonishing. He is not yet as fast as Petter and shouldn't be anywhere near to Hirvonen.

There is one thing that makes difference to Ford and Subaru: engine power. I have seen countless of times from simultaneous view how PSA-cars (Peugeot and Citroen) are clearly faster on straights than Subaru or Ford. This gives little edge to Citroen if their car is otherwise as good as cars of other teams.

I expect that Loeb is really though bone in rallies where engine power is highlited; but on the other hand I believe that Grönholm and Solberg can give good fight some rallies.

Got the part where Paul Howart said that they could run the car for 20years and it would most likely never happen again.

I may be totaly wrong about this but i think the oilcooler sits inside one of the carboncovers in the front on iether side and gets air from the intake on the side of the bumper so it's very unlikely a stone could get in there and brake a blade on the fan wich made the hole in the cooler

These rally radio flashbacks are giving me shivers. Gronholm has put his car into a ditch and can't get out, bad news for Ford

Rock thru' your windscreen is alot more serious. Its a direct assault on the crew. :bones: :bandit: :angryfire :grenade:

not much difference in throwing a rock at a car and shovling snow on the road both are as serious as imagine a car goin of a 500-1000 foot drop because of that or even just crashing it is also a assault on the crews if the crash. like u say rock hit you in the head (could be) game over, slide of a cliff .....foot drop or even slide into a tree branch through the window its all th same

anyway no matter what its up to spectators to behave and not do any of this its all just as serious

Rock and €rap

Stage Flash 4
Car 38. SOHLBERG/PIETILAINEN

“Half way into the stage there was a big rock around a corner. I hope no-one put it there. I could not avoid it. Now the engine is hot.”

Stage flash 7/8
Car 34. HIGGINS/MARTIN
“The car is tracking out at the right rear wheel because I hit a large stone in stage five – it was impossible to avoid. The spectators are a problem, there are big stones in the road and we had a stone thrown at my co-driver’s window. Also in stage five, we went through the water splash and knocked off the wheel speed sensor. After that, the car started misfiring. At the start of the second super special stage, because of the right rear tracking problem, the car oversteered and I hit a bridge, damaging the right rear wing.”

Car 43. BENIK/BUNKOCZI

“Many problems for me. We had no turbo pressure for stages five and six. Then we had to change a fuel pump and then we hit some stones that spectators had put in the road.”

Service Flash D
Car 43. BENIK/BUNKOCZI
Had problems with the fuel pump on all three stages and then the gearbox was damaged when he ran over some stones on the 11th stage.

Car 37. PAVLIDES/GIRAUDET
A stone hit his screen and damaged the glass on the co-driver’s side.

Kristan SOHLBERG - "rocks on road, it frickin ridiculous"

Seems to be a couple of determined people. Perhaps locals that are not happy about people coming onto their land and being pinned into their property by the rally having the road closed?

Edstrom posted the km range of the stone throwers yesterday, seems like there are some angry locals in a couple of pockets...

I'm not too happy about Sohlberg's pace  The first loop yesterday was fine but then something happened. is that something still preventing him to rally fast today ?

I think he has been doing ok, pity about the flat on the long stage yesterday, and today he hit some stone.

Not like it never happens anywhere else, or has cost other drivers to crash and loose rallies or anything (not defending these actions, just trying to point out it happens at other events, maybe not as frequently, which is dissapointing, but it happens).

yes it happens, but not so much anymore, but in this event propably more than in others together, not so nice from drivers point of view, first you make big effort to get a budget to go to rally mexico then some morons throw stones and put stones on the road to see drivers in trouble.

Hmm - wonder if Mexico makes it to the 2009 WRC, against competition from the new events? If I remeber last year there were "stones" incidents and also loose animals that made some drivers say it had about as much wildlife as a Safari.

Seems that the latin American rallies get some kind of special treatment from the FIA... Argentina had far worse incident through the years and nothing happened as well.
