MotoGP Round 3 - Estoril
Jeepers, the first day has been and gone and we've not posted a thread on it!
Well, it's official - Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi are at war! After a bit of a ceasefire for a while, both parties have been trading barbs at each other after FP2 and dislike seems to have descended into outright hatred of each other. It's a shame but makes things interesting!
MotoGP FP2 times:
1 58 Marco SIMONCELLI HONDA 1'37.663
2 1 Jorge LORENZO YAMAHA 1'37.724 0.061 0.061
3 26 Dani PEDROSA HONDA 1'37.727 0.064 0.003
4 46 Valentino ROSSI DUCATI 1'38.102 0.439 0.375
5 27 Casey STONER HONDA 1'38.102 0.439 0.000
6 5 Colin EDWARDS YAMAHA 1'38.203 0.540 0.101
7 17 Karel ABRAHAM DUCATI 1'38.473 0.810 0.270
8 11 Ben SPIES YAMAHA 1'38.563 0.900 0.090
9 69 Nicky HAYDEN DUCATI 1'38.596 0.933 0.033
10 8 Hector BARBERA DUCATI 1'38.611 0.948 0.015
11 7 Hiroshi AOYAMA HONDA 1'38.645 0.982 0.034
12 4 Andrea DOVIZIOSO HONDA 1'38.658 0.995 0.013
13 35 Cal CRUTCHLOW YAMAHA 1'38.760 1.097 0.102
14 24 Toni ELIAS HONDA 1'38.912 1.249 0.152
15 65 Loris CAPIROSSI DUCATI 1'39.021 1.358 0.109
16 14 Randy DE PUNIET DUCATI 1'39.137 1.474 0.116
17 19 Alvaro BAUTISTA SUZUKI 1'40.173 2.510 1.036
And to spice things up not just slightly more, Stoner and Rossi finished on the exact same time! Also, Karel Abraham continues to impress me and prove himself early on in his MotoGP career.Get off my lawn

Great qualifying session. I expect Simoncelli to win if he doesn't crash.
EDIT: The only war of words I can find is between Lorenzo and Simoncelli.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91029
Jorge Lorenzo vehemently criticised Marco Simoncelli in the post-qualifying press conference at Estoril this afternoon as the pair's dispute over riding ethics escalated.

Where am I getting my info?? It's an opinion based on what I believe were Stoner's unwarranted off-the-cuff comments to Rossi on the day in response to an incident where Rossi simply over-cooked it and was man enough to apologize whereas Lorenzo's criticism of Simoncelli's riding style also slots well into the prima-donna/bitchy category. ..

Rossi says he backed off to take a breather, before putting his head down for a final attempt at setting a fast time; Stoner says Rossi was waiting for him to get a tow. Stoner says Rossi's so desperate for a fast lap he'll wait for a tow; Rossi says that this happens in every practice session, and if Stoner is sick of people getting tows he should go race on his own.
It went downhill from there: Stoner says the signal he gave to Rossi - tapping the rear of his bike - was intended as a call to heel, Rossi being "like a dog who follows you everywhere." Rossi in turn said that if spent his time tapping the seat hump of his bike every time someone followed him, he would have broken several hundred of them. Stoner reiterated his point that Rossi's crash at Jerez was a "rookie mistake", while Rossi launched into an invective against Stoner's claims about him.
"Stoner says a lot of things which aren't true," Rossi claimed. "He says I signed with Ducati because I was forced to, I had no other choice, because I cannot get the same money because of Lorenzo [Rossi's former teammate at Fiat Yamaha]. He speaks about my shoulder like he was the best shoulder doctor in Melbourne Hospital. But he doesn't know nothing," Rossi said. The reason for this was simple, Rossi explained. "He [Stoner] never got over losing at Laguna Seca."Get off my lawn

Sharp comments are ok in my book and well chosen and appropriate (even abusive) words could have been used without degrading the guy's obvious talent. Not what I would have expected from Stoner. That being said, Stoner may well have been harbouring ill feeling over the Laguna Seca incident that influenced his comments.
Keith Cronin just took a huge 18.2 sec out of both Devine & Edwards on SS4 ! Edwards says that's mental and Keith is a special talent.
British & Irish Championships...
