interesting question D-Type. I have only heard of the Lake of Mentieth, but something is telling me this is actually a sea loch, which would mean that even though it is called a lake, it isn't actually a lake at all.

I'm confused. Does loch not simply mean lake?

Anfield 5 has it - the answer is the Lake of Mentieth, the famous one. It is a freshwater lake. According to Wikipedia some artificial lochs/lakes are named "Lake whatever" and it hints there may be other Scottish "Lakes" but Mentieth is the famous one.
schmenke, "Loch" means "Lake" in Gaelic so all Scottish lakes are called "Lochs", like Loch Lomond and Loch Ness. They also use the word for "enclosed bodies of seawater" or "sea lochs" such as Loch Long.Last edited by D-Type; 16th October 2014 at 16:28.
