Australian Rallying at a crossroads
With the announcement today of the AASA Australian Rally Championship for 2008 which is direct competition to the CAMS affiliated ARC, there are going to be some interesting times.
The new Championship is beeing run by the AASA with input from AMSAG who currently run classic rallies in NSW. There will be classes for 4wd's , 2WD's and Classics. 5 events will make up the Championship with 3 in NSW, 1 in Victoria and one in Queensland. The events will be all different in that the individual event directors can set the format, unlike the current CAMS ARC that has the 2 heat format over 2 days with between 90km and 120km per heat.
Looking forward to what actually happens and it's going to be interesting times.

It is very interesting indeed. The current administration has hit back with a strongly worded reply, holding their current management as the only way forward. Yet at the same time, every day has seen yet another board member or such resign.
It is quite clear that the organisers of the sport have been gazing at their navels for too long. Having forgotten the grass root levels of the sport, RallyCorp & ARCom have concentrated way too much on the ARC alone & how they can bleed the competitor dry through hazy commercial arrangements.
For so long people have been crying out for change. Only now when an alternative championship has been announced, do we hear that incentives will improve for the ARC.
Personally I do not wish to see the sport split up, but if this brings about needed change & allow for greater democracy that has been missing, then I am for it. This is after all a free world, if someone presents a better offer, good luck to them.Happiness is using the side windows more than the windscreen

yeah, what happened to supporting the 'grass roots' rallying? Where are they going to get the new crews if they keep supporting the top manufacturers? I reckon they should put a cap on sponsorship and help the little crews more...
