Qatar GP set to become night race
By Toby Moody Friday, August 31st 2007, 08:36 GMT
An announcement will take place later today at Misano regarding the Qatar Grand Prix becoming the first MotoGP race to be staged under lights.
A press conference has been scheduled for 12.45 CET at which FIM president Vito Ippolito, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation president Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta will speak.
It is thought that they will announce that the 2008 Qatar event will become a night race, and will take place under floodlights at the Losail International Circuit.
The Qatar GP has already been confirmed as next year's season opener, a position that it occupied for the first time in 2007.
The move follows Formula One's decision to begin staging some races under floodlights, starting with next season's Singapore GP.

it could be try are trying to get more spectators to the track?
The weekend at Qatar is Friday and Saturday I think, Sunday is a working day so maybe they hope more will be able to attend a night race. So far at the Qatar GP there are more team personnel than spectators
F1 is having a night race in the far east so it can be televised mid day in Europe were most of the fans are but Qatar is only 2-3 time zones before EuropeI got my motorcycle jacket, but I'm walking all the time...

Also, a night race covers up a lack of spectators better than in daytime, and isn't as hot in a country like Qatar.
"Of course, what many people tend to forget is that Glen Richards was 2nd in the 1993 Australian 125cc championship" - Jack Burnicle on BSB at Snetterton, June 2008
First leg he will be thinking in Portuguese championship. Then he can go for WRC2.
