Mercedes anounces Antonelli signing
This must rank as the highest worst-kept secret. But timing is everything. Announcing the signing of Antonelli at Monza in Italy is clearly a strategic move. Never mind that he crashed on his second lap which took the shine off the occasion. The announcement certainly has a feel of something important happening. The expectation is very high along with the pressure that comes with it. The sort of thing that could crush a fledgling career.
That said, he looked fast. And the Mercedes garage seems to have embraced him warmly. The proof is in the pudding. We shall see what he is capable of in 2025. By god, l hope he is dynamite. The formula could use an injection of new blood to lead the next era of racing.
What does it mean for Russell? Well, his stock would be cooked if the pesky rookie out-qualifies him or gets more points by the end of 2025.Better a witty fool than a foolish wit.
