That depends on how you count the entries!
In the 1990's the Manx International would have had far fewer ERC entries than that (it was a Coefficient 20 round but never got more than a handful handful of European Championship entries) but would have had over 100 entires in total made up of British, Irish Tarmac and West Euro Cup Championship contenders plus others.

It always was (and still is) mixture of ERC regulars, ERC guests and ERC locals. In the past (from what I remember), everybody was starting in the ERC event in the main field. Only later started national classes, which are not counted into international field. And for last years there are also registrations, so you can count all cars in international field or all registered cars. But for sure, if the entry will be around 20, it will be the poorest entry list during last many, many years.

An embarrassing way for the new promoter to end their first season in charge.

Catalunya as a stand alone ERC round would be good.. as an afterthought/add on to a WRC event, no..

I see the ERC driver Nil Solans has switched to the WRC2 side in Catalunya...

You have to ask, is it even worth the potential disruption to the WRC rally, to cram such a small extra 'event' into the gaps in the itinerary?

Granted, it's a very safe option in terms of organisation, spectator safety etc., but 21 cars is pretty embarrassing.

Even copying the old JWRC / 208 Iberica Cup format of having ERC crews part of the main event, but taking the ERC event 'result' at the end of the second leg would have been better than this.

There is a problem that there are different rules in WRC and in ERC (and of course in national championships), so WRC and ERC crews cannot go together, must be in separate field. For me, running ERC as a part of WRC it is complete nonsense which doesnt help to anything. From my point of view, it should be better not to have 8th round than this comedy.

It is not so big surprise. He had partners and agreements for start in Catalunya ready before ERC was announced. As he has no chance for title, it has no sense to switch back to ERC, which will be in complete shadow of WRC event and nobody will take care about it...

Not a surprise at all but a further indictment of the ERC event here.
