I know I shouldn't argue with you about this, but I thought on low speed sections the grip is so low that you can't put all the high power down, so engine doesn't matter so much. And on the contrary, when you are accelerating from 100 km/h upwards you rarely have problems with the grip and the you gain seconds by hitting your top speed earlier than other cars. I don't know, but Suninen was up to pace last year in Sardegna, while all the M-Sport drivers were horribly lost in Estonia...
We see this also when we compare the pace of R5 cars, on fast stages the WRC cars are much faster but on a technical stage the R5 can even get in the top 10 (or even win the stage like Huttunen in Sweden 2018)
I would also say Greensmith has improved his driving, hence him getting closer to Suninen. The stages are also somewhat simpler, not so many corners where you can make a difference.Last edited by AnttiL; 27th February 2021 at 10:38.

Both Lappi and Gryazin looked much better in the long sweeping turns. Mikkelsen was correcting mid way trough every one of them.
Whether it's driver, settings, car or a combination is hard to say.

What? Neuville speaks German as his 1st language and the pace notes are French. It has been this way all Neuville's career. Would be really difficult to learn to make them in a different language at this point.
However, Wydaghe speaks Flemish as his first language, and for him it has been difficult to pronounce the words correctly (in the Flemish language you need to make these throat sounds which may be difficult to learn out of). He's even used a specialist to help him with this issue.Last edited by AnttiL; 27th February 2021 at 10:44.

Kaur have been second fastest RC2, only 2sec away from WRC3 leader now. Things are interesting there.

"The morning was quite okay, but not good enough I would say. I was still struggling a bit with the car and in the last one we found something which made the feeling a little bit better. Hopefully we can go in the same direction after service."

"We carried on the speed we were at yesterday. The car was working good - it may have been a little bit soft for the last stage but it's good information for the second loop.
"I couldn't really commit all the time because we are still missing some communication between Martijn and me. I sometimes get some engine noise which means his voice isn't really clear, so I have to back off and just imagine what the corner will be. A little bit frustrated about that but we will see what we can do during the day."

"It wasn't the usual fluid drive that normally delivers that sort of performance. It's not so easy to be smooth here and I think you have to be a little bit aggresive with the car.
"Now it will be difficult to take big chunks of time, but anything can happen and the tyre wear will probably play a big part this afternoon."
Sébastien Ogier
"I think we had a decent pace this morning, we were in the mix, but the gap will stay like this up to the end, unfortunately. We can still catch a few places, but we have to fight hard as I expect a difficult afternoon for us at the front. We will give our best!" #WRCLast edited by dimviii; 27th February 2021 at 10:51.

"A good morning, but it was very demanding. The stages are incredibly fast and we have never seen the roads, so the pace notes are never 100%. There have been some interesting meetings with snow banks, but so far they have been on my side so it's okay!
"There are many cars coming after us, so the gravel will start to come out and it will be about tyre management this afternoon."

"Honestly, not so good. The first stage started quite well and I got into a rhythm quite early, but I got sucked into a couple of snow banks and lost momentum.
"The last one was quite a rollercoaster in places - perfect conditions and I really enjoyed it, I just would've liked the time to be a little bit better!"

"The settings that we have in the car are very good at the moment. I don't really need to push - it just comes naturally and that's the best way.
"The driving style I have now is completely different to the last time I was in an R5. Maybe I have learned during the years in WRC about how to drive in the fastest way, so I think I am just trying to do that now."

You should. I'm making mistakes...
Yes, that is true and I have to admit that I'm sometimes too much stuck on our asphalt Due to the recently used extensive aero the level of grip with higher speeds rose so much that the lack of grip in low speed got more apparent than it used to be.
On asphalt, where you have the grip, the hardest event for engine used to be Corsican or Italian asphalts where you go from corner to corner all the time on 3-4th gear.
That's because of the huge effect of the aero. In the past when WRC cars didn't have so much aero it wasn't that way. Even S2000 used to be pretty close to WRC cars in Finland and in some other very fast events but their lack of torque meant they were loosing much more in twisty events where it is impossible to keep the engine in such a narrow RPM band all the time.Stupid is as stupid does. That´s nice MIrek. I was to object on your arguments to AnttiL. I think he is right.
On a long strait to me power is worth a lot driving on 6th gear. It says itself more hp will give you a higher speed faster.."Reis vas pät pat kaar vas kut"
