GR Yaris - could it be a cool CupCar?

Toyota have made a homologation special in the GR Yaris. It is a long time ago, that a manufacturer have dared to make a "Rally car" for petrolheads.

The car have received top notch judgement from journalists and others that have tried it. A real drivers car!

I am guessing this will be the base for the Rally3 car Toyota is making.

There are as I write this many tuning firms that makes tuning parts for this car, that is one of the few that drivers love to play with, on the track, on snow and gravel. This car will become an icon!

But, can the base car be the basis for Yaris Cups around in the world?
Some good coilovers, and new exhaust, and a small chipupdate if needed.
with the base price this car has, it could be a huge success, also in cups!

Rally 2, more probably. GR Yaris roadcar is showing similar numbers to it already, Rally 3 a lot less.

Maximum Rally3 engine capacity is 1620cc.
    This Yaris 1618cc.
    Fiesta 1496cc.

Doesn't anybody else find that a tad convenient?

That's not so simple. IMO the ideal engine capacity strongly depends on the restrictor size, in other words with smaller restrictor the smaller capacity can be more effecient.

Maybe so on the stages, are you saying it can't technically be Rally3? This is legal documentation speak so somebody had to have the incentive to argue for and/or decide that limit on paper in Rally3 regulations else why not just call it 1600? It can't have been Ford or the existing R2/Rally4s asking.

I probably didn't understand your post properly.

The specific limit 1620 ccm instead of 1600 ccm is old. It goes roughly ten years back to R3T when the limit was enlarged to allow Renault to homologate the Clio. Since that time that value naturally migrated to every other 1600 ccm class because same engines have been used in all of them (except most of the WRC with purpose-built units).

All works Japanese Yaris GR retired on Shinshiro rally, they were also rather slow but I don't know what are the Japanese rules and neither know I anything about the drivers.
