Petronas AMG Mercedes - Seven times Constructors World Champions

In 2010, the Mercedes-Benz F1 team joined the F1 paddock as a returning works team. After many years of supplying engines to Mclaren, the Mercedes team posed a competitive problem for the multiple world champions Mclaren. Apart from the inherent knowledge gained by Mercedes from the period of their partnership, the flux of Mclaren personels to the newly formed Mercedes teams was a frictional occurence in the long Mclaren-Mercedes partnership.

After three years of sharing engine with the Mercedes team, Ron Dennis the Mclaren Team Principal and CEO, declared they were dropping Mercedes engine for a renewed partnership with Honda in 2013. A partnership that failed miserably and relegated Mclaren into the depths of the midfield of the grid, where they reside today. Unfortuantely, Mclaren dropped the Mercedes engine just as it was emerging to be the most dominant engine of the emerging new era.

After an initial two lacklustre years in the midfields, Mercedes acquired the services of a frustrated Lewis Hamilton who was quite disillusioned by the management of Mclaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh. Hamilton took a spectacular risk leaving a front end team to join a new team in the midfield of the grid. A partnership that turned out to be the stuff of dreams.

After a year of aclimatization to the Mercedes work environment and race car in 2013, the following 2014 season introduced the new hybrid engine regulation that effectively propelled Mercedes to the very front of the grid. In his second year at Mercedes, Hamilton won his 2nd F1 Driver World championship title and Mercedes' first constructors title since returning to F1. Also, justifying their decision to drop seven times world champion Michael Schumacher from the team. Thereafter, producing some of the most thrillling inter-teammate rivalry spanning 2013 to 2016 between Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Since 2014 to date, Mercedes has won both the Constructors and drivers F1 World championship titles of every year from thence. Eclipsing the run of six consecutive title win of Ferrari in the Schumacher years. Team Principal Toto Woolf emerging as the most successful team boss in F1 history. A partnership that has also propelled Lewis Hamilton to seven F1 Driver World Championship titles equalling what was once called the impossible benchmark of Michael Schumacher.

Petronas AMG Mercedes is a tornado force of nature. It is a wild storm unleached unto a race track in the hands of Lewis Hamilton. It is a dragon in attacking descent bellowing angry flames from its nostrils round a fast flowing twisty race track. They are one of the best demonstration of human genius. And each of their personel a representation of human brilliance.

In all of these amazing qualities, they have strived to exercise parity of equipment and support to both of their drivers. They have not shyed away from embracing the issues of the moment facing our world. The black W11 Mercedes car of 2020, display a clear message of support for the fight against racism and promotion of equality for all across the globe.

They have shown to the rest of the grid a new philosophy to racing which contrast that of Ferrari or Redbull but still manages to show they can be successful doing so. Let us hail a truly exemplary Seven Time Constructor World Champion team "PETRONAS AMG MERCEDES".

    CONGRATULATION MERCEDES!
This is a team l cannot praise highly enough!

And Mercedes has done a splendid job, maybe too good for the sport. We have had the same scenario over the years in F1 when one car is too dominant.

When a driver like George Russel, that has done good in smaller classes, driving one of the slowest car in the field, Williams, suddenly leads and would have won his first race in a Mercedes.
    That leaves some questions.

How much of the titles are down to the car, and how much is due to a superb driver?
How good is really Bottas, not able to shadow Russel, but loosing ground?
How good would Hamilton be in a Williams. Would he be better than Russel?

This is to me one of the reasons I do not follow F1 very close anymore.
Much more fun following F2, where you see good racing for the lead. Or Moto GP that is exiting almost every time from start to finish.

You have a fair point but not one that we could blame Mercedes for. They have set one of the highest standard that the sport has ever seen. And the competition has been unable to match them, not to talk of defeating them to world championships. The problem here is the failing of Ferrari, Redbull, Mclaren, Renault stepping up to that standard. The general consensus is that this standard is too high. High enough to force the F1 management to terminate the technology competition between the teams and the consequential high costs in the new regulations.

The founding philosophy of F1 racing was for each team to go build the fastest car they could design and come race it against the cars designed by other teams. The original concept of what became F1 racing was purely a competition of ingenuity. Of course, each team want the fastest driver they could find to extract the maximum that the car can produce. And compare that to what the competition can achieve. A championship title was evidence of engineering superiority. The driver in the fastest car is expected to win the race. But drivers who wins the title demonstrate driver skill superiority, regardless of how much faster the car is.

In recent times, F1 racing has been driven by commercial interests. It is all about the show and the car is just a means to an end; to produce the entertainment. The driver is now a more commercially marketable concepts, hence racing is now about the driver, than about the ingenuity of the engineering that went into producing the car.

Which essentially is what the 2022 regulations is prescribing. They have setup a central design team to design the car. And the teams are only required to produce the design to exact specifications with small avenues to tweak the aerodynamic characteristics of the car. This aim produces a near similar cars for each team with hopefully close racing across the grid. But it essentially is not F1 in spirit and DNA. It is a new age racing formula for those with a shallow appreciation for F1 racing. It may remain entertaining from a speed perspective but would lack the intellectual depth of the F1 of Ecclestone. Of Enzo. Of Brabahm. Of Mclaren. Of Williams. Of Lotus. etc.

It is shamefull to be hearing of teams calling for an engine freeze. The shame of it. This is where we are in this sport. It has to be made easier for teams to compete and the reason why the DNA of the sport has been casually dumped at the wayside.

I really like what Nigel said to Angelia in the film.
When your personal life is gone, remember to notify me, it means you are going to be promoted.
I very much agree with this sentence, life and work, we choose to work because of life, and work makes us neglect life.
When you want to get promoted, you have to sacrifice more of your private time to work.
Choice is a very interesting thing, and when you make a choice, it also means that you will lose something very pity.
