When McRae won his title in 1995 there were only 8 Rounds.

Absolutely do not want to make the judgment but in 1995 rallies have ~ 500 competitive km.

i know a lot of people for whom this title will be with asterisk no matter who wins it.

and then again i know people who share your opinion
Title with asterisk is still way more than no title imo. Neuville sounds like he thinks otherwise and I just don't believe that.

Well, thing about such a short championship is that it is much harder to recover from technical faults that might not be driver's error so in that sense luck plays a bigger role and I think this is evident in this championship.

Disagree. Motorsport is always a combination of human and machine. Both must work in order to win.

If you go that route then 2019 season was not worth anything either because the stage km’s are small compared to previous decades

Nobody said what you mentioned isn't true, did they? But it doesn't change the fact that the fewer rallies you have, the more luck you need. If you have a technical dnf then it plays a bigger role than during a normal season. Skill wins in the long run, but the smaller the samplesize, the higher the variance. Can't see how this isn't obvious to everyone.
