Rally4 cars won’t certainly be so fast as they were last year and besides the restrictor the Fiesta will also carry more 50kg (1080kg is the new weight limit for every Rally4).

Btw, on Rally3 there will be no weight or restrictor size difference, despite allowing cars from 927cc up to 1620cc (1210kg and 30mm for all); with no 1.6L engines available on the 208 and Clio ranges, it remains to be seen if Peugeot and Renault will enter Rally3.
First of all we don't know if Rally5 will be close to Rally4. 4+ minutes difference in Canarias isn't exactly close and that was in largely wet conditions. It's likely that on dry the difference would be bigger.

Second thing is that while Rally4 would slightly slow down the difference will be probably very small in the end. Moreveor with the ongoing development it's likely that the Rally4 would again pull away due to the simple fact that they have more room for further development within the homologation.

Last but not least if I am not mistaken Peugeot and Renault both work on Rally3 cars.

Time will tell, but Peugeot and Renault interest on Rally3 wasn’t confirmed. Renault is developing the Clio Rally4 and PSA Motorsport seems pretty busy making Peugeot and Opel Rally4 models for their customers.

Could be some manus changed focus when engine size jumped to 1620ccm for the Rally3. Not so easy to take a R4, put in a 4wd system and you have a R3.

And if that was Toyota that got the size change adopted by FIA, then hopefully they will push to get it out to the people!
Little news from Gazoo Finland these days.

Toyota has NO 1.6T road cars (only Yaris WRC has 1.6T)
    Road Yaris GR-4 has 1.5T 3-zylinder
Trust me Gazoo Finland is working a lot but Gazoo Japan decide which is public and which is not.

I find it hard to believe that they are going to downgrade the GR Yaris to make a R3 car. Probably something else.

    Same.

Would be bad PR to downgrade GR-4

Regarding the Clio Rally5, I've done a small ride in one. The car is FAST. Seemed a lot faster than the old Fiesta R2T we are driving with (first Turbo version, not latest). Certainly in the first 3 gears. The car has a lot of torque in a wide rev range.
Suspension seems a bit hard, it's made for French asphalt and can't be changed (fixed dampers, only 1 type of springs).
I think it's about 1s/km slower than the Rally4 on tarmac.
More news once we actually done a rally with it

Renault was certainly working on the plans for a Rally3 this summer.

I personally expect that Rally4 will have greater advantage over Rally5 on gravel due to more sophisticated suspension and likely better durability.

Anton, does the Rally5 have LSD? I remember the R1s didn't have it.

The GR ‘4’ uses a 1.618cc engine (the 1.5L is on the 2WD GR); that’s why it’s easy to believe that Rally3 limit (1.620cc) was established with the Yaris engine in mind.

That would be great, but so far the only news that came out (confirmed by Renault) were about the Clio Rally4. https://www.diariomotor.com/competic...o-rally4-2021/
