Rally Islas Canarias opens its entries’ period

True to a program that is starting to accelerate, the second round of the FIA European Rally Championship opens its entries period for this event from this Monday. The event located in Gran Canaria will be in the Spanish Superchampionship and in the Spanish Rally Championship on tarmac. The top ten teams classified in the local overall with cars with FIA approval will receive prizes.

Since Monday, February 24, the registration period for the 44th edition of the Rally Islas Canarias has been open, which will be held between May 7 and 9 and will bring together some of the best teams at continental, national and regional levels. This period will end on Wednesday, April 22, six days before the official entry list is announced.

In addition, together with the opening of the entries, the Club Deportivo Todo Sport, organizer of the event, has also revealed all the details of the route, the regulations and the time-schedule. The first leg will consist of two runs for 'Valsequillo' (11.91 km), 'San Mateo-DISA' (12.01 km), 'Artenara' (12.21 km) and 'Tejeda' (12, 95 km) in the first two sections and, in the third, we find the urban super special of 'Las Palmas de Gran Canaria' (1.53 km). The second leg will add two runs for ‘Valleseco-DISA’ (14.17 km), ‘Gáldar’ (12.4 km), ‘Moya’ (12.7 km) and ‘Arucas’ (11.85 km).

From the program of the event, the great novelty is that the day reserved for international teams to carry out collective tests is delayed to Tuesday. This is a measure imposed by the FIA and also has the consequence that the recce will be held on Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7 until 14:00h. Free practice will take place from 12:15 to 14:15 in the GC-70 road, and, from 15:00 to 16:00 h will host the Qualifying Stage for the FIA priority drivers, ERC1, ERC2 and ERC3. On this same road the shakedown will take place from 16:15 to 18:15 h. The 'Tuesday test' of May 5 changes the scene when moving to the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana.

With this renewed itinerary, the most international rallies that are going to be held this year in Spanish territory offer numerous incentives for the teams of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC), the Spanish Superchampionship (S-CER) and the Spanish Rally Championship on tarmac (CERA). At a regional level, the Club Deportivo Todo Sport will establish a series of prizes in a classification reserved for Canarian teams with FIA approved cars. In the near future, the Organizing Committee will announce the amount of these awards for the top ten classified in that overall.

The Rally Islas Canarias is postponed until December 3,4 and 5

    https://www.rallyislascanarias.com/i...until-december

The extreme measures taken in recent days to stop the expansión of the coronavirus have forced the Organizing Committee to delay its celebration. Both the FIA and RFEDA have already approved December, 3, 4 and 5 as a new date. With this, the ERC 2020 will finish in Gran Canaria.

The 44th edition of the Rally Islas Canarias cannot be held, as planned, on May 7, 8 and 9. The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus epidemic that is spreading throughout Europe and that has been affecting Spain in a special way in recent weeks has forced national and community authorities to take extreme measures that will last over time. In full countdown for its celebration, the Organizing Committee of the Rally Islas Canarias has had no option but to request a change of date due to the possibility that the test could not be carried out.

Being the most international of the rallies to be held in 2020 in Spain, the Canary rally requires, like the rest of the events of the FIA European Rally Championship, that this crisis be stopped. For this reason, Eurosport Events, promoter of the continental championship, and the FIA, in tune with the RFEDA, have wanted the 44th edition of the Rally Islas Canarias to take place on December 3, 4 and 5. With this, the Rally Islas Canarias will decide the ERC both in its absolute classification as well as in its two Junior categories. In addition, as the venue for the last event, Gran Canaria will host the final awards ceremony. The event organized by the Club Deportivo Todosport maintains its score for the Spanish Rally Championship (CERA) and the Spanish Superchampionship (S-CER).

“Needless to say, this situation was not in our plans, but during this time we have had the full support and understanding of Eurosport Events, the FIA and RFEdA. Keeping the date would have led us, quite possibly, to a hasty cancellation with uncertain consequences. This new location on the calendar allows us to work with all the enthusiasm and with the extra honor of being the rally that puts the end of the ERC 2020, also hosting the final award ceremony. December will allow us to show off more about our Archipelago, our landscapes and our climate”, said Germán Morales.

Jean-Baptiste Ley, the ERC Co-ordinator, said: “Clearly, postponing and rescheduling events brings upheaval and is not the work of a moment. By monitoring the situation on a continuous basis with all organisations who make Rally Islas Canarias possible, we have been able to secure an alternative date and maintain the planned eight-event calendar. We thank everyone involved for helping us to achieve this, including the promoters of other ERC events affected by the change of dates.

The Club Deportivo Todosport will not alter the route already established and that it will include the stages of ‘Valsequillo’ (11,91 km), ‘San Mateo-DISA’ (12,01 km), ‘Artenara’ (12,21 km) and ‘Tejeda’ (12,95 km) and the city super special of ‘Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’ (1,53 km) on the first leg and, during the second one, ‘Valleseco-DISA’ (14,17 km), ‘Gáldar’ (12,4 km), ‘Moya’ (12,7 km) and ‘Arucas’ (11,85 km).

Rally Islas Canarias (Gran Canaria) reopen its entries period for its 44th edition Featured

Rally Islas Canarias reopen its entries period for its 44th edition
Until next November 11, the teams that are going to participate in this round of the FIA European Rally Championship, the Spanish Championship, the Spanish Superchampionship and the Regional Championship may formalize their entrie. With logical adjustments due to the date change, the time program and the route remain practically intact.

Although the machinery has not stopped completely from the coronavirus pandemic forced the celebration of the Rally Islas Canarias to be postponed until November, the organizer intensifies the preparations for the 44th edition with the reopening of the entries period. Until next November 11, the teams from the different competitions that converge in Gran Canaria on the 26th, 27th and 28th will be able to carry out the procedures to compete in the seventeen scheduled stages.

The change of the date has not caused major changes in the program of the Rally Islas Canarias. Guía retains its status as the venue for the free practice and the qualifying stage on Thursday, November 26. The schedule readjustments are concentrated in the first leg, but do not affect the scheme initially drawn up by the organization with the first section consisting of the stages of 'Valsequillo' (11.91 km), 'San Mateo-DISA' (12.01 km), 'Artenara' (12.21 km) and 'Tejeda' (12.95 km), that will be repeated in the second one and the last on Friday, November 27, but adding the urban super special stage of 'Las Palmas de Gran Canaria-DISA '.

On Saturday, November 28, the program will continue with the stages of 'Valleseco-DISA' (14.17 km), 'Gáldar' (12.4 km), 'Moya' (12.7 km) and 'Arucas' (11 , 85 km) in two identical sections. The Santa Catalina Park and the Plaza de Canarias in the capital of Gran Canaria will be the epicenter of this event, the most international of all that will be held in Spain in 2020.

The main teams that have been so far this season in the FIA European Rally Championship have contacted with the organizer of the Rally Islas Canarias to inquire about the logistical procedures that must be carried out in order to participate. This is the case of the leading team, Alexey Lukyanuk, o the young Oliver Solberg, who is second in the provisional overall, and the world-class driver Craig Breen.

After the changes that Eurosport Events, promoter of the European championship, has had to make as a result of the cancellation of several events, the Rally Islas Canarias is the penultimate event on the calendar.

Gran Canaria situation is good, 29 new cases yesterday, with a population of approximately 870,000 people

Rally of Lanzarote has been cancelled due to political issues.
Nowadays, the sanitary situation is right in Gran Canaria and in the rest of the islands, except Tenerife, who hold the 75% of new cases.

Which is not true, for sure. Almost nobody has sent entry form yet. Most of the crews will do it after Rally Hungary, if they (and their cars) will survive

Although I think it is a little bit utopic...I will share information that comes from the facebook of a journalist from Gran Canaria:

"The gossips tell and say that the Monza Rally may be suspended and that several team leaders of the World Rally Championship have been in direct contact with Germán Morales, organizer of the Rally Islas Canarias

It seems that Germán Morales, president of the organizing committee of the Rally Islas Canarias, has supposedly been called by Hyundai Motorsport team leader Andrea Adamo, and M-Sport team manager Malcom Wilson to be interested in coming to compete in Gran Canaria and that in the He will do so in the next few hours if not the Toyota Gazoo Racing team boss Tommi Makkinen has already done so to come to Gran Canaria.

We are still waiting for official confirmation. And up to here we can write and share information."
